Nyari Chat: Cleaner WoW Chat With Headers and Filters

Nyari Chat restyles every World of Warcraft message with headers, channel colors and spam filters for cleaner, readable chat.

Nyari Chat

Chat in World of Warcraft has always been a firehose. Trade spam, loot rolls, achievement dings and whispered nonsense all pile into the same box until the conversation you actually care about scrolls away. Nyari Chat is an addon that fixes this by giving every message a clear structure: a header line with the sender's name, channel and timestamp, and the message itself on the line below. Loot, XP and system lines are shrunk down so they stop burying the people talking.

What Nyari Chat Actually Changes

The core idea is simple. Instead of a wall of text, each entry gets a header. Names keep their class colors and stay clickable, and channel tags still open that channel when you click them. A thin colored stripe on the side of each message shows which channel it came from at a glance. If you want more separation, you can turn on cards, which puts every message on a dark panel.

Five presets ship with the addon: Minimal (the default), Modern, Retail, Classic and ElvUI. Pick one as a starting point, then tweak anything you like. The settings window includes a live preview and a search box, so you can see changes before you commit to them.

Merged Loot and Grouping

Fishing or grinding out bandages used to flood chat with one line per item. Nyari Chat merges those into a single line with counts, like [Grouper] x3, [Albacore]. Grouping works on conversation too: if the same person posts again in the same channel within five minutes, the new message joins the one above without another header.

Filters, Mentions and Saved History

Spam control is where the addon earns its keep. Gold sellers, scams, flooding and repeats are blocked by default. You can also switch on blocks for recruitment, boost advertisements and all-caps messages. Beyond the defaults, you can hide specific words, players or guilds, and paste an entire list at once instead of typing each entry.

Mentions get their own treatment. Your name and any custom words you add can appear as a tinted band, a stripe or just a colored word, each with its own color and sound. Chat history can also survive a reload or logout, so you do not lose a conversation just because you zoned or relogged.

If you run the foxygame.net launcher, adding this addon is a one-click affair: Nyari Chat sits in the launcher's catalog, installs without manual folder juggling, and picks up updates automatically so your chat layout stays current across patches.

Small Quality-of-Life Touches

  • Up and down arrows bring back what you previously typed.
  • Web addresses turn into links you can copy.
  • A copy button exports chat as plain text.
  • Scroll shortcuts and a jump-to-newest button keep you oriented.

Performance is handled carefully. Each message is restyled once, and nothing runs while chat is quiet, so the addon stays out of the way during raids and PvP.

How to Install Nyari Chat and Set It Up

If you want to download Nyari Chat, grab it from your usual addon source, drop it into your Interface/AddOns folder, and restart the game client. Once loaded, type /nc in chat, use the minimap's addon menu, or open Settings > AddOns > Nyari Chat. Every setting also works as a chat command, and /nchat help lists them all. If you already use Nyari Threat, the two addons share a single settings window.

Version Compatibility

Nyari Chat for World of Warcraft supports Retail along with the Classic progression line, including Classic Era, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm and MoP. The interface is built to behave consistently across those clients, so switching between a modern character and a Classic alt does not mean relearning your chat setup.

Who Should Use It

Anyone who spends time in busy cities, runs pugs with constant loot chatter, or simply wants whispers and guild talk to stand out will get value here. The defaults are sensible enough to use immediately, and the presets mean you do not have to build a layout from scratch. Install it, pick a preset, and let the headers do the work.
