Loot Triage
Every World of Warcraft player knows the feeling. You are deep into a dungeon run, bags bursting at the seams, and the loot window pops up with another pile of vendor trash. Do you stop to sort through it, or do you just grab everything and deal with the mess later? Loot Triage answers that question for you in real time, with zero extra windows and almost no overhead. It is a lightweight addon built for one job: telling you what is worth taking and what you should delete to make room.
How Loot Triage Works
The concept is refreshingly simple. When you loot with full bags, Loot Triage does two things at once. First, any item worth more than your current junk gets a small gold coin icon in the loot window, so you instantly know it beats what you are carrying. Second, the items you should actually delete to free up space get a gold border in your bags, numbered so you know exactly which one to toss first.
If a piece of loot is not worth more than anything you already have, it gets no coin at all. That is your signal to leave it on the corpse and move on. The addon ranks everything by vendor price multiplied by stack size, which means a stack of twenty cheap items can easily outvalue a single gray. Grays and whites are ranked together, cheapest first, so the math always works in your favor.
What Loot Triage Never Touches
By default, the addon is careful about what it suggests deleting. It will never flag the following:
- Potions, food, drinks, bandages, and other consumables
- Cloth, herbs, ore, and other crafting materials
- Profession tools such as Mining Picks, Blacksmith Hammers, Skinning Knives, and fishing poles
- Recipes
- Quest items, your hearthstone, and anything that cannot be sold
You can toggle any of these protections off in the settings if you prefer a more aggressive cleanup. If there is a specific item you always want to keep, simply Alt+Left-click it in your bags. It gains a little star, and Loot Triage will never suggest deleting it again. Alt+Left-click once more to undo the protection.
Bag Addons and Sorting
Loot Triage plays nicely with most popular bag addons, including EllesmereUI, Bagnon, AdiBags, and BetterBags. One caveat: the sorting feature only works with Blizzard's default bags, since third-party bag addons arrange items their own way. When you use the sort button on your default bags, Loot Triage moves your cheapest junk to the bottom right corner afterward, with the cheapest item landing in the very last slot. That way the stuff you would delete is always in the same predictable spot. You can disable this behavior if you prefer manual control.
If you are the kind of player who juggles multiple characters across different versions of the game, the foxygame.net launcher makes managing your addons painless, letting you install Loot Triage with a single click and keep it updated automatically. It is a convenient option whether you are running Retail or hopping between Classic flavors.
Game Version Support and Compatibility
Loot Triage for World of Warcraft supports the major game versions players care about, including Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. That breadth matters, because the addon's core function, comparing vendor value against your existing inventory, is just as useful in a Classic leveling grind as it is in a modern Retail dungeon crawl. Compatibility with the Gamepad UI is also included, though the settings page is hidden while Enable Gamepad UI is active due to a Blizzard bug that can freeze the game when the window closes. To adjust your settings, turn off Enable Gamepad UI, make your changes, then turn it back on.
Settings and Customization
Access the options through Esc, then Options, then AddOns, then LootTriage, or simply type /lt in chat. From there you can control when highlights appear, choosing between looting with full bags, bags almost full, always, or off entirely. You can also pick whether you want the standard gold border or the animated proc glow, decide which item qualities count, and specify which kinds of items should never be suggested for deletion. Typing /lt test lets you preview the highlights before you commit to a run.
Why Loot Triage Stays Out of the Way
Plenty of addons try to solve the inventory management problem, but many of them feel bulky, adding panels and menus that slow you down. Loot Triage was built by someone who wanted the opposite: a tool that shows you what to delete and then gets out of your way. The result is an addon that respects your screen space and your time.
If your bags are constantly full and you are tired of guessing what to keep, download Loot Triage and let it handle the triage. Learning how to install it takes seconds, and once it is running, you will wonder how you ever looted without it.
