Pace Meter
How fast are you actually moving right now? Most players have no idea. They know their mount is faster than running, and that a sprint or a potion gives a burst, but the exact number stays a mystery. Pace Meter answers that question with a single, tiny number on your screen: your live movement speed, updated ten times per second, shown as the game's own percentage and in km/h.
This is one of those lightweight addons that quietly changes how you read combat. You glance at the number, you know whether you are slowed, snared, or flying at full Skyriding speed, and you react. No charts, no graphs, no clutter. Just the truth about your movement, right now.
What Pace Meter Actually Shows
The core idea is simple: the speed you are moving at this instant, refreshed constantly. That includes mounts, sprints and movement abilities, speed potions, slows, vehicles, and Skyriding forward speed. The addon displays two values side by side, or just one if you prefer:
- The game's own percentage, using the same math as the character window (100% equals 7 yards per second).
- Your speed in km/h, for a more intuitive read.
Because it pulls from the game's internal values, the number matches what the character sheet would tell you. It also works in combat and inside Mythic+, which matters more than it sounds. Since Midnight, the game locks movement speed for addons during combat, but Pace Meter still surfaces it through Blizzard's own number formatter. The result is a reading you can trust when it counts.
Why the Combat Detail Matters
In high-end content, knowing you are at 70% instead of 100% explains a lot. A snare you did not notice, a mechanic you are standing in, a slow you forgot to dispel. Pace Meter turns a vague feeling of "I'm sluggish" into a concrete number. That is the entire value proposition, and it delivers it without demanding screen space.
A HUD That Stays Out of the Way
The default display is just the number. No box, no border, no background unless you ask for one. There is a "Speed" label and a background available if you want them, but the addon assumes you would rather see your UI than your addon. Text size scales from 10 to 32, so it fits anything from a minimal setup to a large, readable HUD.
Right-click the number to lock or unlock it. Locked, clicks pass straight through to the game, so it never eats a mouse input during a fight. Unlocked, you can drag it wherever you want. Options cover showing or hiding the percentage, the km/h value, the label, the background, and the text size.
Slash Commands and Options
- /pace opens the options panel.
- /pace unlock and /pace lock toggle dragging.
- /pace reset restores the defaults.
You can also reach the settings through Esc, then Options, then AddOns, then Pace Meter, or via the addon button next to the minimap. The addon speaks English and Brazilian Portuguese, and the Portuguese client uses /velocidade to open options.
Compatibility Across World of Warcraft Versions
Pace Meter for World of Warcraft is built to follow the game wherever it goes. It supports Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. The behavior adapts to each client: older expansions do not have Skyriding, so that reading simply is not part of the picture there, while Retail gets the full forward-speed treatment. Addon compatibility is maintained across these versions, so you are not hunting for a different build every time you switch characters or clients.
If you run several versions side by side, this is the kind of addon you install once and forget about. It does not require external libraries, which keeps your AddOns folder clean and your load times honest.
How to Install Pace Meter
Installation follows the standard addon routine. If you prefer doing it by hand, download Pace Meter from its project page, extract the folder, and drop it into your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory. Make sure the folder name matches exactly, then restart the client or reload your UI. If you would rather skip the manual steps, the foxygame.net launcher handles it in a single click, pulling Pace Meter straight from its addon catalog and keeping it current with automatic updates, so version compatibility across Retail and the Classic clients stays sorted without you thinking about it.
Once installed, type /pace, set your text size, drag the number where you want it, and lock it down. That is the whole setup.
Small Addon, Real Information
Pace Meter is free and open source under GPL-2.0, with no ads and no strings attached. It does one thing: it tells you how fast you are moving, ten times a second, in the game's own terms. In a raid, that number explains why you did not reach the stack point in time. In the open world, it tells you whether that mount is really as fast as it feels. It is a tiny HUD with a surprisingly large amount of useful truth in it, and once you have it, going back to guessing feels like flying blind.
