Galvin's UnitBars: Custom Resource Tracking for WoW

Galvin's UnitBars

Resource management is the beating heart of every World of Warcraft rotation. Whether you are pooling energy on a rogue, building chi on a monk, or watching soul shards tick upward on a warlock, knowing exactly where your secondary resource sits at any given moment can mean the difference between a clean kill and a wipe. Galvin's UnitBars is a dedicated resource tracking addon built to give players complete control over how that information appears on screen.

What Galvin's UnitBars Actually Does

At its core, this addon tracks the resources that Blizzard's default interface handles poorly or hides entirely. Mana, combo points, chi, runes, soul shards, essence, stagger, and alternate power bars all get their own configurable display. Instead of squinting at a tiny default bar tucked into a corner, you decide the size, position, texture, and behavior of every element.

Every bar supports full customization. You can rotate bars, flip fill directions to match that rotation, adjust frame strata so a bar sits above other addons, and apply border thickness as thin as a single pixel. The included textures, GUB Bright Bar, GUB Dark Bar, and GUB Square Border, work with any mod that supports LibSharedMedia, so your visual style stays consistent across your entire UI.

Triggers, Flags, and Advanced Control

The trigger system is where things get interesting for players who like to fine-tune. Each bar carries a priority flag that tells it when to hide, show, or change appearance based on combat conditions. Triggers can be set to fire on specific talents, stances, or resource thresholds, and the activation menu marks enabled triggers with an asterisk so you always know what is live. Druid forms and warrior stances are supported directly, and the addon prevents stance triggers from appearing on bars that do not use stances at all.

• Alignment tool for lining up bars with pixel precision, activated by right-clicking an unlocked bar
• Test Mode for adjusting layouts without entering combat
• Dedicated bars for combo points, chi, runes, essence, stagger, fragments, and alternate power
• Animacharged support in the combo point bar
• Blackout Kick and Purify Brew pause-timer triggers on the stagger bar

Version Support and Compatibility

Galvin's UnitBars has been maintained across a long stretch of World of Warcraft history. It supports Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria, which makes it one of the more broadly compatible resource trackers available. Players running older expansions get the same core bar framework, while Retail users benefit from the most recent updates.

One important note for anyone returning to the addon: Blizzard's changes aimed at limiting combat addons affected the project's long-term roadmap. The original author paused continued development and began a full rewrite in November 2024. That means settings may need to be redone after major updates, and some features could shift between versions. If you download Galvin's UnitBars expecting a finished, frozen product, adjust your expectations accordingly.

For players who want a smoother setup process, the foxygame.net launcher handles Galvin's UnitBars installation in a single click and keeps it current automatically, so version mismatches after a patch become one less thing to worry about.

How to Install

If you prefer a manual approach, how to install is straightforward. Download Galvin's UnitBars from your preferred addon source, extract the folder into your World of Warcraft Interface AddOns directory, and make sure the folder name matches exactly. Launch the game, and the addon loads automatically. Type /gub c to open the configuration panel, or /gub for the full command list. From there you can build bars from scratch or load a layout that suits your class.

Tips for Getting Started

New users often overlook the border settings. Many bars ship with visible borders that can be removed entirely. Open the bar's background options, find the border dropdown, and select none. This works for box mode and standard modes alike, and it instantly produces a cleaner look.

The stagger bar deserves special attention. Autohide on the pause bar causes the main stagger bar to shift position, so either switch to floating mode or change the anchor point if the movement bothers you. The overlay option was renamed to Layered (hidden) in a past release, so check your settings if something looks off after updating.

Galvin's UnitBars rewards players who enjoy tinkering. It is not a plug-and-play addon that looks perfect on first login, but for anyone who wants their resource tracking to match their exact preferences, the depth of control here is hard to match across Retail and the classic-era versions of World of Warcraft.
