KickNotes
Every World of Warcraft player has been there: a trash pack is melting, the healer is sweating, and somewhere in the chaos a mob is casting something that absolutely should not go off. You know you should interrupt more. The problem is remembering which of the dozen enemies in front of you actually casts the dangerous ability. KickNotes exists to solve exactly that problem, and it does so without playing the game for you.
What KickNotes Actually Does
KickNotes is a learning and reference addon, not a real-time combat assistant. Instead of flashing a giant warning the instant a cast bar appears, it shows a compact reminder panel when you enter supported content. That panel lists the mechanics your current class or spec should care about, sorted so the most important ones sit right in front of you. You read it before the pull, internalize it, and then execute.
The addon covers four core categories of responsibility:
- Interrupts for casts that must be stopped
- Crowd-control stops for abilities that can be broken or prevented
- Friendly dispels for debuffs your class can remove from allies
- Enemy purges for buffs worth stripping off hostile targets
On top of that, KickNotes flags MUST STOP mechanics, the genuinely lethal casts where a missed interrupt usually means a dead group member. Boss and trash entries are kept distinct, so you always know whether a reminder applies to a raid encounter or the pack on the way there.
Class and Spec Awareness
One of the strongest design choices here is that KickNotes filters recommendations by your class and spec. A Restoration Shaman does not need to see the same list as a Fury Warrior. You get the interrupts you actually have, the dispels you can actually cast, and the purges your toolkit supports. That alone makes the addon far more useful than a generic cheat sheet, because it removes the noise of abilities you will never press.
Learning Instead of Flashing
The philosophy behind KickNotes is that information before the fight beats panic during it. Every mechanic in the list can be right-clicked to mark it as learned. Once marked, it dims, and you can eventually hide learned entries entirely. The panel shrinks as your knowledge grows, and the goal is simple: the addon should only remind you about the things you still forget.
Learned state is shared across all your characters, which is a small feature with a big quality-of-life payoff. If you already know that a particular cast in Kings' Rest needs a kick, you do not have to teach the addon twice when you switch to an alt.
Supported Content and Game Versions
The initial release concentrates on Midnight Season 2, with accuracy prioritized for Mythic+ dungeons. The supported dungeon list currently includes Altar of Fangs, Murder Row, Den of Nalorakk, The Blinding Vale, Voidscar Arena, Ruby Life Pools, Temple of Sethraliss, and Kings' Rest, alongside The Venomous Abyss on the raid side. Older content can be expanded over time, and mechanic accuracy is treated as more important than simply adding more entries.
As for compatibility, KickNotes for World of Warcraft is built with modern Retail in mind, and the addon ecosystem around it continues to grow. Players who split their time between Retail and legacy realms should check the current build notes for the exact client support, since addon compatibility across Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, and MoP varies from project to project. If you run multiple versions of the game, keeping a separate AddOns folder for each client is the safest habit.
If you would rather skip manual folder management altogether, the foxygame.net launcher handles KickNotes installation in a single click and keeps it updated automatically as new dungeon data ships. For anyone juggling several WoW clients, that launcher also tracks which addon versions match which game build, so KickNotes always lands in the right place.
How to Install KickNotes
Installation follows the standard addon routine. Download KickNotes from its project page, extract the archive, and place the KickNotes folder inside your World of Warcraft installation under Interface/AddOns. Make sure the folder is not nested inside another folder, since that is the most common reason an addon fails to appear. Restart the client or reload your UI, and the addon will be active.
Once loaded, type /kn in chat to see the available commands. Useful examples include /kn options to open settings, /kn test to preview the panel, /kn mini and /kn full to switch views, and /kn zip for the collapsed KN button. There are also targeted test commands such as /kn test murder and /kn test ruby for checking specific dungeons.
Customization and Interface
KickNotes ships with a full and mini view, plus an optional auto-collapse into a small KN button when you do not need the full list. Sorting can follow dungeon order or priority, and the settings panel lets you tune opacity, window size, text size, row spacing, boss colors, warning colors, and priority filtering. There are built-in preview and test tools so you can dial everything in without entering a dungeon.
Feedback and Accuracy
Because the addon depends on precise dungeon mechanics and class utility data, feedback matters enormously. Incorrect interrupts, missing dangerous casts, wrong dispel recommendations, and class abilities that should or should not work are all worth reporting through the project issue tracker. Accuracy fixes take priority over adding new entries.
The Bottom Line
KickNotes will not yell at you mid-pull, and that is precisely the point. It gives you the knowledge beforehand, then quietly gets out of the way as you learn. If you have ever finished a dungeon wondering how many casts you let through, this is the addon that turns that vague guilt into a concrete checklist. Download KickNotes, mark what you know, and watch the reminder list shrink as your interrupts land.
