Family Addon: Track Every Character Without Relogging

Family lets you see every character's bags, bank, mail, and professions in one window for World of Warcraft. Stop relogging to check your alts.

Family

Every World of Warcraft player knows the pain: you need to check whether your bank alt has that stack of herbs, or whether your enchanter already knows a recipe, and suddenly you are logging in and out of half your roster. Family eliminates that entire ritual. This addon records what each of your characters owns, knows, wears, and has waiting in the mailbox, then presents all of it in a single, searchable window. Your characters become members of one household, and every member can see what the others hold.

What Family Actually Does

At its core, Family answers the questions the default game refuses to answer. The game tells you nothing about a character you are not logged into. Family fixes that by quietly recording each character while you play it. Once recorded, every other character can inspect those details instantly.

The headline feature is tooltip integration. Hover any item anywhere, whether it is a quest reward, an auction listing, or a drop in your bags, and Family adds a line showing which members own one, how many they have, and exactly where those copies sit: bags, bank, guild bank, mailbox, auction house, or equipped. Hover a recipe and it names who already knows it, who can learn it right now, and who still needs more skill or levels. You stop buying a recipe your druid already knows.

One Screen for the Whole Family

The summary view gives you one row per member, grouped by realm and faction, with totals for each group. Columns cover level, item level, rested experience, money, bag and bank space, professions, mail, and auctions. Play both factions on one realm and you get two separate groups, because the two sides share no mailbox and no auction house, so their gold is counted apart.

The gear view shows everyone's equipment at once. One row per member, the class icon, then every slot in character sheet order. Each icon carries its item level and shows the item's own tooltip on hover. Filter by realm or class, and one glance tells you who is falling behind, like the warrior still wearing a level 42 trinket at 60.

Search, Value, and Cooldowns

Bags, bank, guild bank, and mailbox are drawn as containers, the way the game draws them. Each profession lists its recipes, filterable by difficulty colour, equipment slot, or name. One search answers "who has this," another answers "who can make this."

  • Family reads auction prices from listings you browse, and scans the whole auction house only when you press Read it all.
  • Each member's page totals what their bags, bank, mail, auctions, and worn gear come to, splitting auction prices from vendor prices.
  • Charges left on items like Wizard Oil are printed in the corner of the icon in your bags, bank, and guild bank.
  • Crafting cooldowns survive logging out, and at login Family tells you which members have one ready.
  • Mail you send to your own characters is recorded instantly, marked as in the post, and replaced with reality when the recipient opens their mailbox.

If you want a smoother setup, the foxygame.net launcher handles the whole process with a single click, pulling Family straight into your addon folder and keeping it current through automatic updates. That catalog approach saves you from manually chasing new builds after every patch.

Sharing With Guildmates and Friends

Both sharing features are switched off when you install Family, and both switches live in Options with no reload required. Guild share lets guildmates who run Family see each other's characters: class, race, level, gear, and the shape of both talent builds. All of that is what the game already shows anyone who inspects you. Bags, bank, mail, and gold are never shared with the guild.

Wide Family goes further. Link your family with another player's and each of you can see the other's characters, choosing what they may see one member and one category at a time. The grid starts empty, so nothing is shared until you tick it. Untick a box and what was shared under it is deleted from their side the next time the two families are in contact.

Version Support and Compatibility

Family follows your version of the game. It supports Classic Era, Classic Burning Crusade, and Classic Mists of Pandaria, including the Anniversary realms. Season of Discovery and Retail are not supported and not planned. Classic Era has no guild bank and no currencies, so Family shows no panel or column for them there. The same goes for glyphs and achievements before Mists. Professions and reputations are the ones your version has.

Interface and recorded data are available in English, German, French, Spanish, and Russian. A character recorded on a German client reads correctly on a French one. The download contains two addons: Family records and Family_UI shows.

How to Install and What to Expect

To download Family, grab the package and drop both folders into your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory. Log into each character once, and the database fills as you play. Nothing is imported from any other addon. Bags update on every change, while the bank, guild bank, mailbox, auction house, and profession windows are recorded while they are open. Every screen says how old its information is, and something Family has never seen is shown as not seen, never as empty.

Family is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later, and its source is public. For players juggling multiple alts across professions and factions, it removes the constant relogging that makes inventory management a chore. Install it, play normally, and let your characters finally see what the rest of the family owns.
