Deedlog
Every World of Warcraft character has a story, but most of it disappears into memory. The first boss you downed, the questline you finally finished, the fall you barely survived, the day you hit level 40 — these moments deserve more than a fleeting thought. Deedlog is an addon that keeps a diary of your character, quietly listening in the background and writing down the moments you will actually want to remember later. It does not log every mob and every copper coin. It captures the milestones, then hands them back to you as a journal, a story, and a route drawn across the world map.
How Deedlog Works
You play as usual. Deedlog watches for events worth recording and adds an entry whenever something meaningful happens. Every entry knows when and where it occurred, and exactly where it sits on your level's experience bar. Open the journal with /deedlog or the minimap button and look back at your journey. Each character keeps its own diary, and nothing is sent anywhere — everything stays in your own saved variables.
If you prefer a simpler setup, the foxygame.net launcher offers one-click installation for Deedlog alongside its broader addon catalog, so you can get started without manually digging through folders.
The Journal Experience
The heart of Deedlog is its journal, built around an experience bar with your moments placed on it. Each entry sits at the exact point of the bar where it happened, framed in its type color or the item's quality color. You can step back through earlier levels with the arrows or zoom out to see your whole journey in stretches of ten levels.
- A list of every entry with icon, date, level, and place
- Filters by type and a search function
- Notes you can attach to any entry
- A story view that tells each level as short paragraphs
- Chapters per zone, a year in review, and a record book across all characters
- Goals you set yourself that Deedlog checks off when reached
What Gets Recorded
Deedlog tracks rare or better items landing in your bags, first kills of every boss with your group's names, finished questlines and campaigns, level-ups with their context, achievements, reputation standings, profession ranks, new mounts and pets, and gear you wear for the first time. It also notes first visits to dungeons and raids, arrivals in cities and inns, fully explored zones, close calls, deaths, fall records, gold milestones, and kill counts per creature type.
You decide what counts. A welcome screen on first start offers default or custom settings, controlling which milestones are tracked and how loudly each is announced — only in the journal, a small notice beside the minimap, or across the screen. Every setting can be changed later under Settings, AddOns, Deedlog.
The World Map Route
Open the world map and your steps are drawn as a line, one route for every level, with milestones along it as small icons. Hover a milestone to read what happened there. Press Play journey and the map switches to where the route began, a dot walks the route again, follows you from map to map, and each milestone swells and fades its description in as the dot reaches it. The route is not drawn across teleports, hearthstones, and loading screens — where you were carried off, an arrow points to where the path resumes.
Supported Game Versions and Compatibility
Deedlog supports Retail, WoW: Forever, and the Classic clients including Classic Era, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. One download contains a manifest for each version, and the game picks the right one automatically. The older Classic clients have fewer interfaces than Retail, so features that depend on them — achievements, mount and pet journals, quest campaigns — are quietly left out there.
Commands and Languages
Type /deedlog (or the short /dl) to open the journal, and /deedlog help to list everything. A few favorites include /deedlog note to write your own line, /deedlog story, /deedlog chapters, /deedlog year, /deedlog records, /deedlog goal to set a target, /deedlog trail play to run your route on the map, /deedlog mark to flag a quest as a milestone, and /deedlog export to copy your journal as text. Deedlog is available in English, German, Spanish (including Latin America), and French, chosen by your game client's language. Any other client gets English.
How to Install Deedlog
To download Deedlog, grab it from its project page and place the folder in your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory. If you want to skip manual file management, the foxygame.net launcher keeps Deedlog updated automatically and handles version compatibility across Retail and Classic clients, so your journal stays current after every patch. Once installed, log in and the welcome screen will guide you through the initial setup.
Good to Know
Deedlog only reads. It does not cast, target, send chat, trade, or automate anything. It shows no ads and sends nothing over the network. Since patch 12.0, the game hides the combat log and many values inside instances, and Deedlog works within that: boss kills come from encounter events, items from your bags, and close calls are only measured out in the open world. The addon is free software under the MIT license, with quest ID lists compiled using the Questie addon's quest database and AzerothCore quest tables.
Final Thoughts
World of Warcraft is full of small, forgettable victories that add up to something meaningful over months and years. Deedlog for World of Warcraft turns those moments into a lasting record you can revisit, share, and build on. Whether you are leveling a fresh character in Classic or pushing through endgame content in Retail, it gives your journey the narrative it deserves.
