What the Addon Actually Does
The core idea is simple: no more guessing at item levels. Every slot displays its progress and the precise item level it will award once unlocked. The data comes straight from the game's own reward tables, including the vault's special rule for a raid's final two bosses. When the game genuinely cannot confirm a level, the addon tells you instead of inventing a number.
Point at an unlocked slot and it opens onto a reel of everything it can drop, color-coded by Best-in-Slot tier. Items are rated S, A, B, C or D for your loot specialization, pulled from Wowhead's class guides, so a quick glance tells you whether a reward is worth chasing.
Loot Table and Season Database
Left-click any unlocked slot, or middle-click the minimap button, to see every possible reward. Your class set appears first, followed by each raid boss or dungeon, all at the exact item level the slot grants. Columns cover Best-in-Slot tier, item level, secondary stats, and gear slot with armor type. There is a search box, a slot filter, and a stat filter, plus tooltips that compare drops against what you are already wearing.
The season-wide loot database goes further. It lists everything the Great Vault can award this season as if all content were finished, for any class and specialization: class sets, raid bosses by difficulty, Mythic+ dungeons by keystone level, and world gear from delves, prey, and world bosses by tier.
Installation and Compatibility
If you are wondering how to install, the process is standard. Download Better Great Vault from your preferred addon source, drop the folder into your Interface/AddOns directory, and restart the game. The addon needs no supporting libraries, so nothing else has to be installed alongside it. Compatibility is broad. The addon targets Retail World of Warcraft and is built for the current Midnight client, while older branches such as Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria are supported where the Great Vault system exists. It also plays nicely with addons that consolidate minimap buttons into a bar or menu, such as EllesmereUI.
Opening Styles for Every Specialization
Presentation matters here. Each slot opens in your specialization's own animated style, and there are 40 animations in total, one for every spec plus three extras. Death Knights get Bonestorm, Runic Frost, or Plague. Druids open with Eclipse, Cat Claw, Bear Maul, or Bloom. Hunters see Beast Bite, Bullseye, or Steel Trap. You can also choose any style manually or let the addon pick a random one each time, and hovering a style in the menu plays it right beside the menu so you know what you are selecting.
Interface, Languages, and Quality of Life
The minimap button is an animated vault door. Hover it for a snapshot of this week's vault: each slot's item level or progress plus the time until reset. A data bar feed supports ElvUI, Titan Panel, ChocolateBar, and other displays when LibDataBroker is loaded. A chat reminder fires when rewards are waiting, and /bgv status prints your weekly vault directly into chat.
Commands are straightforward. /bgv shows the version and command list, /bgv db opens the loot database, and /bgv perf reports CPU, memory, and load time so you can verify the addon stays light. Nothing runs every frame unless something on screen is moving.
