RarityCore
Ever stared at a chest full of loot and wondered which pieces actually matter? RarityCore answers that question before you even hover over an item. This mod builds a full rarity system on top of Minecraft, giving every item a colored background and tooltip prompt based on how valuable it really is. Gray for junk, purple for epic gear, gold for genuine treasures — your inventory becomes readable at a glance.
What RarityCore Actually Does
Vanilla Minecraft has no real rarity language. Names change color here and there, but nothing communicates value consistently. RarityCore replaces that vagueness with seven preset rarity levels, each rendered as a distinct colored background behind the item icon plus a matching notification in the tooltip box. The result is instant visual sorting without opening a single wiki page.
The real magic is automation. RarityCore ships with preset rarity data for more than 70 mods, and its automatic rarity calculation engine evaluates items based on their crafting recipes. In most modpacks, that combination covers over 70 percent of all items with zero manual configuration. Players get the full system the moment the game loads, and modpack creators save hours of tedious data entry.
Supported Versions and Loaders
RarityCore is built for NeoForge and targets Minecraft 1.20.1 through the latest mainstream releases, including 1.21.1 and beyond. The developer has confirmed that Fabric support is off the table permanently, so plan your modpack accordingly. Note that 1.20.6 is intentionally skipped — a quirk of the update cycle that the author has addressed directly.
If you would rather skip manual file juggling entirely, the foxygame.net launcher bundles RarityCore into its curated add-on catalog, letting you enable it with a single click and keep it updated automatically alongside your other mods.
Customization Without the Headache
Not everyone wants rainbow tooltips. RarityCore hands you the controls:
- Toggle name color changes on or off entirely.
- Rewrite tooltip text for any individual rarity tier.
- Swap the default gradient background for your own custom texture.
- Adjust rarity levels through a few simple clicks in the config menu.
For advanced users, the mod supports NBT tag matching — upgraded to item data component matching from version 1.21.1 onward — so items sharing the same ID but different data can receive separate rarity assignments. That matters for mods like TacZ, where firearms rely on tags to differentiate variants. Configuration flows through four channels: data packets, commands, config files, and code registration, so both casual players and developers have a path that fits.
Mod Interactions Worth Knowing
RarityCore plays well with others when you set it up right. SearchCarefully uses RarityCore's rarity values to assign looting times, mimicking the tension of extraction shooters. ColorTooltips is deeply integrated and strongly recommended as a companion install. Apotheosis fans can map its six Mythical tiers onto RarityCore's system, with a config toggle if you prefer vanilla behavior. Rendering support extends into Refined Storage terminals and Elegant Backpack interfaces too.
Two compatibility snags are worth flagging. ImmediatelyFast can clip the high-transparency edges of hotbar item backgrounds, making them look nibbled — disable HUD batching to fix it. EMI's batch processing mode can stop backgrounds from rendering in its item list, so turn that feature off if you notice missing colors.
Getting Started
To install RarityCore, drop the jar into your mods folder, confirm you are running a supported NeoForge build, and launch the game. The rarity system activates immediately with no setup required. If you want to fine-tune tiers, dig into the config files or use in-game commands. Full documentation lives on the RarityCore Wiki, covering API usage, linked mods, and every configuration option.
RarityCore turns inventory management from guesswork into instinct. Whether you are a player hunting for that one gold-tier drop or a pack author tired of hand-labeling hundreds of items, this mod delivers a rarity framework that works out of the box and scales as deep as you need it to.
