Nether Star Enchantments: Portable Beacon Powers for Minecraft

Nether Star Enchantments brings beacon effects to your gear in Minecraft. Skip the pyramid and carry Speed, Haste, and more with you.

Nether Star Enchantments

Beacons are one of Minecraft's best quality-of-life features, but they come with a catch: you need a full pyramid, a clear line of sight, and you have to stay inside a limited radius to benefit. That is fine for a main base, but it falls apart the moment you wander into a cave, cross an ocean, or step into a PvP arena. Nether Star Enchantments solves that problem by turning beacon powers into enchantments you wear or hold. No structure, no beam, no range limit. Just you, your gear, and a high enough XP level.

What Nether Star Enchantments Does

This add-on introduces a set of enchantments that each mimic a beacon primary effect, but with two deliberate twists that keep them balanced. First, every effect is personal: it applies only to the player wearing or holding the enchanted item, never to nearby allies. Think of it as a selfish beacon. Second, most effects are gated behind a minimum XP level, usually 30, or 40 for Conduit. If your levels drop below the threshold, the effect simply stops. That mirrors the real cost of powering a beacon and keeps these from being free power at level zero.

Anvil costs are steep at 40 for most of them, so these are clearly end-game upgrades rather than early-game conveniences.

The Enchantment List

  • Speed — Boots, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Grants Speed while you are not in water or lava.
  • Jump Boost — Leggings, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Continuous while worn.
  • Haste — Mining tools, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Triggers when you mine a block, with a small reduction to block interaction range.
  • Strength — Weapons, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Triggers on attack, with a slight reduction to entity interaction range.
  • Resistance — Chestplate, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Triggers when you take a hit.
  • Regeneration — Helmet, max level 3, requires 30 XP. Also triggers when you are attacked.
  • Conduit — Helmets, max level 1, requires 40 XP. Grants Conduit Power while submerged.
  • Turtle — Turtle Helmet only, max level 1. Applies Slowness II when you stand still on land.

The interaction range drawbacks on Haste and Strength are worth noting. They are small, but in tight PvP fights that half-block difference can matter, which is exactly the point. These enchantments reward positioning and planning instead of raw stat stacking.

Crafting the "of the Nether" Gear

All Nether Star items are made on a smithing table. You combine a piece of netherite gear, a Nether Star, and a beacon payment block, which can be iron, gold, emerald, diamond, or netherite. The result is an epic-rarity item with a short lore line and the matching enchantment baked in.

One important detail: the smithing recipe resets the item. Unlike a netherite upgrade that copies existing enchantments, this is a full re-infusion. Any enchantments already on the base item are wiped, leaving only the Nether Star enchantment. If you want to stack it with Sharpness or Protection, apply the Nether Star effect to a clean item first, then add everything else on an anvil afterward. Alternatively, run two separate items through the smithing table and merge them later.

Versions and Loaders

Nether Star Enchantments is built for modern Java Edition releases and is distributed as a data pack plus resource pack combo, so it works on vanilla servers without any mod loader. If you prefer a launcher that handles this for you, the foxygame.net launcher keeps a curated add-on catalog where Nether Star Enchantments can be added to a compatible profile in a single click, with automatic updates whenever the pack is revised for a new Minecraft version.

How to Install

Installation is straightforward for a data pack. Download Nether Star Enchantments for Minecraft from the project page, then drop the pack files into the correct folders for your world. If you are unsure which folder applies to your setup, check the pack's readme, since the datapacks directory location changed in recent versions. Once the pack is loaded, run the reload command and confirm the enchantments appear in the creative menu or via commands.

If you are playing on a server, remember that data packs are installed per world, not per client, so every player benefits automatically without downloading anything themselves.

Who Should Use This Add-On

Nether Star Enchantments shines in late-game survival, adventure maps, and PvP or PvE scenarios where hauling a beacon pyramid around is simply impractical. It gives you the mobility and combat sustain of a beacon without the infrastructure, at the cost of XP upkeep and a few deliberate drawbacks. If you have ever wished your beacon followed you into the Nether, this is the add-on that finally makes it happen.
