Just Dire Fuels: Expand Your Minecraft Generators

Just Dire Fuels for Minecraft lets datapacks add custom fuels to Just Dire Things generators with JEI support. Install and customize today!

Just Dire Fuels

If you have spent any time with the Just Dire Things mod, you know it brings some fantastic generator options to your Minecraft world. The fluid-fed generator and the solid-fuel generator are powerful, but they come with a catch: their fuel options are completely locked down. You are stuck with the three internal fluid types, and the FE values are baked into the server config. There is no public API for other mods or modpacks to introduce new fuel sources. This is where Just Dire Fuels steps in to change the game.

This addon is a bridge between the rigid systems of Just Dire Things and the creative freedom of datapacks. It uses two new NeoForge data maps to let any datapack add fuels, override existing rates, and see those changes show up immediately in JEI. It is a powerful tool for pack makers and players who want more control over their power generation.

What Just Dire Fuels Adds to Your Game

The core of this addon is about opening up the fuel systems. It does not replace the existing generators; instead, it adds a layer of datapack-driven logic that works in front of the original code. This means you can customize everything without breaking the base mod.

Fluid Generator T1: Datapack-Driven Fuel Acceptance

Stock Just Dire Things only accepts fluids that implement an internal RefinedFuel interface. This is restrictive and hard to work with for modpack authors. Just Dire Fuels routes acceptance and FE-per-millibucket through the justdirefuels:fluid_fuels data map. You can now define fuels in a simple JSON file.

// data/<your-pack>/data_maps/fluid/fluid_fuels.json
{
  "values": {
    "minecraft:lava": { "fe_per_mb": 100 },
    "yourmod:plasma": { "fe_per_mb": 7500 }
  }
}

Both vanilla and modded fluids are valid targets. The generator's input slot, tank validator, and FE calculator all consult the same map, ensuring consistency across the board.

Solid Generator T1: Per-Fuel FE and Burn Speed

Burn time for solid fuels was already datapack-driven via NeoForge's furnace_fuels data map. However, the FE per burn tick and the per-fuel burn-speed multiplier were hardcoded. Just Dire Fuels fixes this with the justdirefuels:item_fuels data map, which adds two optional fields.

// data/<your-pack>/data_maps/item/item_fuels.json
{
  "values": {
    "minecraft:diamond": { "fe_per_tick": 500, "burn_speed_multiplier": 8 },
    "justdirethings:coal_t2": { "burn_speed_multiplier": 6 }
  }
}
  • fe_per_tick: If omitted, it falls back to JDT's generator_t1_fe_per_fuel_tick config value (15).
  • burn_speed_multiplier: If omitted, it falls back to JDT's per-item value (1 for items not specially handled).

Note: a new solid fuel item also needs a burn_time in NeoForge's furnace_fuels data map. The two systems are independent on purpose, giving you maximum flexibility.

JEI Integration and Defaults

One of the best features is the JEI integration. A new "Fluid Generator Fuels" category lists every fluid currently registered in the data map with its FE/mB rate. The Fluid Generator T1 block acts as the recipe catalyst, so right-clicking it in JEI takes you straight to the fuel list. This makes it incredibly easy to see what your pack supports.

The addon ships with data map entries that exactly mirror JDT 1.5.7's stock config values (T2 = 450 FE/mB, T3 = 1300, T4 = 4000; Coal T1-T4 burn-speed multipliers 2/4/8/16). If you install it on its own, nothing changes. It only kicks in when a datapack adds or overrides entries, ensuring a seamless experience.

Sample Datapack and Installation

The GitHub repo ships a working demo datapack at examples/justdirefuels_demo/ that does three things at once: makes vanilla lava a fluid fuel at 100 FE/mB, overrides JDT's T2 refined fuel from 450 to 999 FE/mB, and makes vanilla diamond a rather overpowered solid fuel. Drop it in <world>/datapacks/, run /reload, and check JEI to see the changes.

To download Just Dire Fuels, head to the official GitHub repository under breakinblocks. The process is straightforward. To install it, simply place the jar file into your mods folder. The requirements are Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.209 or newer, and Just Dire Things 1.5.7 or newer. JEI is optional but required for the in-game fuel browser. If you are looking for a hassle-free way to manage your mods, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install for Just Dire Fuels, and its add-on catalog automatically checks version compatibility, so you can get your pack running without manual file management. The addon does not replace or hide any JDT functionality; it mixes in additional checks in front of JDT's existing logic, so unaffected behavior is identical to stock. Any modpack already using JDT can install Just Dire Fuels for Minecraft without breaking saves, configs, or recipes.

Conclusion

Just Dire Fuels is an essential tool for anyone who wants to push the boundaries of the Just Dire Things generators. Whether you are a modpack author looking to add unique fuel sources or a player who wants to tweak the numbers, this addon gives you the power to do it cleanly and safely. It is a small addition that makes a huge difference in customization. If you have ever felt limited by the default fuel options, this is the solution you have been waiting for. It is a testament to the community's creativity and a must-have for your next playthrough.
