FasterLadderClimbing

Ladders in Minecraft have always been simple: one fixed speed, no steering, no choices. You hold a direction and hope the climb feels right. FasterLadderClimbing throws that limitation out the window. This add-on lets you decide how fast you ascend, how quickly you drop, and even how you trigger a climb in the first place. If ladders, vines, or scaffolding have ever felt sluggish, this is the mod that fixes it.

What FasterLadderClimbing Actually Changes

The vanilla ladder experience is rigid. You climb at a single speed, and you cannot steer mid-climb. FasterLadderClimbing replaces that with three activation modes and fully adjustable speeds. You can hold jump to climb, climb purely by looking where you want to go, or stick with the original look-and-walk behavior if that suits you better. The default mode is INPUT_FIRST, which means holding jump starts your ascent.

Speed control is where this mod shines. You set your own ascent and descent rates separately. Look up to climb, look down to drop quickly. Holding sneak stops you on the ladder entirely and also cancels fast descent when the sneakStopsDescent option is enabled. Every climbable block counts too, including ladders, vines, and anything else vanilla treats as climbable.

Three Modes, One Goal: Better Climbing

  • INPUT_FIRST — hold jump to climb. The default and most intuitive option.
  • LOOK_ONLY — climb purely by looking in the direction you want to move.
  • LEGACY — the original look-and-walk behavior for players who prefer it.

Supported Versions and Loaders

FasterLadderClimbing supports modern Minecraft releases across Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. On Fabric, Fabric API is required. The settings screen is built into Forge and NeoForge, while Fabric users can optionally install Mod Menu for quick access. You can also open the configuration with the client-side command /fasterladderclimbing, or the shorter /flc, which works on any server.

If you want to download FasterLadderClimbing without juggling loader files, the foxygame.net launcher handles it in one click, pulling the correct build for your Minecraft version and loader automatically. It is a small convenience that saves time when you are setting up a fresh instance.

How to Install FasterLadderClimbing

Installation is straightforward. Place the mod file in your mods folder for your chosen loader. For multiplayer, install it on both the client and the server. The server sends its limits, and the slower of your setting and the server cap applies. In singleplayer, it works out of the box with no extra setup.

On a vanilla or modless server, the mod stays inactive. It never gives an advantage where it is not installed, which keeps things fair. Your preferences live in config/fasterladderclimbing/client.json, while server permissions sit in server.json. Modpack authors can set enabled, upSpeedLimit, and downSpeedLimit to control what players are allowed to do.

Configuration Notes

Defaults matter here. Ascent starts at vanilla speed, so out of the box the mod changes how you climb rather than how fast. Raise the climb-up speed to actually go faster. Out-of-range or malformed values are clamped rather than rejected, so a broken config never stops the game from starting. There are no items, blocks, entities, recipes, or world generation changes, meaning nothing to conflict with and no side effects if you remove it from an existing world.

The mod ships in ten languages, including English, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, and Italian. The settings screen follows your game language automatically.

Final Thoughts

FasterLadderClimbing for Minecraft is one of those quality-of-life mods that quietly improves every session. It respects server control, works across major loaders, and costs nothing to use in any modpack, public or private. If you are tired of slow, unresponsive ladders, this is a simple upgrade worth making.
