WabaUI

Some interface addons rebuild your entire HUD from scratch. WabaUI takes the opposite approach: it leaves Blizzard's own panels exactly where they are and simply darkens and recolors them. The result is a moody, modern interface that still feels like World of Warcraft, because every texture on screen is still Blizzard's original art, just shaded to your taste.

If you have ever wanted a darker minimap border, muted action bars, or chat windows that blend into a night-time UI without installing a full overhaul suite, this is the addon to look at.

What WabaUI Actually Changes

The addon touches the standard panels you look at every session: the minimap border, action bars, unit frames, chat windows, and every default window including bags, character sheet, merchant, spellbook, and quest log. Nothing is replaced with custom artwork. Each panel is Blizzard's own texture run through a recolor and darkening pass, which keeps the visual language consistent with the rest of the game.

Because it works on top of existing art, the addon stays lightweight and predictable. There is no new texture pack to load and no restyling of elements you did not ask for.

Per-Panel Darkness and Tint Controls

The real strength of WabaUI is granularity. Every panel category has its own darkness slider ranging from 0 to 100 percent, covering the minimap, chat, objective tracker, action bars, each individual unit frame, and every standard window. On top of that sits a master "Overall darkness" multiplier that layers over all of them, so you can fine-tune one stubborn panel without disturbing the rest.

Color works the same way. Each panel gets its own color swatch, independent of its darkness slider. Darkness decides how far a panel shades toward its color, and the swatch decides what that color is. A master "Tint color (all panels)" swatch bulk-sets everything in a single click, and you can then pick any individual panel's swatch afterward to give it something different.

Action Bar Fine-Tuning

Action bars receive special attention. The Main Action Bar and each extra bar, including MultiBarLeft and MultiBarRight, the bottom-left and bottom-right bars, and the additional bars, can either follow the master action-bar slider or use their own value through a checkbox next to each one. The bag bar and the gryphon-head end caps on the Main Action Bar are independently adjustable in the same way.

There is also an optional setting that forces the extra action bars' button borders to match the ornate style of the Main Action Bar, which helps on bars whose own "Hide Bar Art" toggle is not reachable in the current client.

Minimap Button and Command Line

Once installed, a small minimap button gives you quick access. Left-click toggles dark mode, right-click opens the options panel, and dragging repositions it wherever you prefer. The settings panel is organized into Action Bars, Unit Frames, and Windows subsections, each holding that group's sliders and swatches.

Prefer typing? The slash command /wabaui reports whether dark mode is on or off. Use /wabaui on and /wabaui off to toggle it, and /wabaui options to open the settings panel, which is also reachable through the standard Options menu under AddOns.

Every change is fully reversible. Turning WabaUI off restores each touched panel to its original, unmodified appearance, so there is no risk of a permanently altered interface.

How to Install WabaUI

Installation follows the usual addon routine, with one detail that matters:

  • Download the latest release of WabaUI from its official page.
  • Extract the archive so the addon files sit directly under Interface/AddOns/WabaUI/.
  • Make sure the folder is named exactly WabaUI, matching the .toc file inside it.
  • Restart the game or run /reload to load the addon.

If you would rather skip manual folder management, the foxygame.net launcher handles it for you: it lists WabaUI in its addon catalog and installs it into the correct path with a single click, then keeps it updated automatically as new releases appear.

Version Compatibility Across WoW Clients

WabaUI targets WoW Forever, currently in beta with an official release scheduled for 2026-11-04. Players exploring other clients should check the addon's page for the latest supported builds, since interface code differs between Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. Where a client is supported, the same panel logic applies: sliders, swatches, and full reversibility.

Because the addon relies on Blizzard's own textures rather than custom art, it tends to survive patch changes better than heavy UI replacements, though it is always wise to confirm compatibility after a major content update.

Final Thoughts

WabaUI is for players who like the default interface but want it darker, tinted, and under precise control. The per-panel sliders and swatches give you as much or as little customization as you want, the minimap button keeps everything within reach, and the reversible design means experimentation costs nothing. If a darker, more cohesive UI has been on your wishlist, this addon delivers it without asking you to relearn your entire interface.
