SZHelper

Raid coordination lives and dies by clean communication. One missed marker, one mistimed call, and the pull falls apart. SZHelper is a lightweight addon built to remove that chaos by handling marker assignments and position announcements for you. Whether you are pushing Mythic bosses in Retail or reliving old raids in Classic, this tool gives your group a shared language for who stands where and when.

If you have ever typed "star on me" into chat while dodging a mechanic, you already understand the problem SZHelper solves.

What SZHelper Actually Does

At its core, the addon manages two things: markers and positions. You open the interface with the /sh command, which toggles the window on and off. From there, leader settings offer two distinct modes, Simple and Automatic, each suited to different levels of raid discipline.

Simple Mode

Simple mode is the hands-on option. It immediately shows rings around locally selected markers on a rotating map, giving you a visual read on where everyone sits relative to the wheel. If your group already calls positions verbally, this mode keeps the picture clear without automating anything.

Automatic Mode

Automatic mode does the talking. When a player is selected, the addon yells a position number; when they are deselected, it yells a negative position number. The rotating map then displays those received yells. Clicking a wind sector sends the position on the opposite side of the wheel, which sounds strange until you see it in motion during a real encounter.

Marker Slots and the Rotating Map

You can select up to three markers at a time. Edit Mode lets you swap among the eight available marker shapes, and the 12 and 6 o'clock slots hold unused shapes while the rotating map keeps six active directions. That layout matters because the wheel only tracks what is actually in play.

  • Display history holds up to 20 messages per cycle.
  • At the limit, further reception stops and a notice appears once.
  • Reset Assignments or the next cycle's reset resumes reception.
  • Automatic assignments use the three most recently received messages.

Timing, Surges, and Assignment Order

This is where SZHelper gets genuinely clever. After changing selections, press Send Positions three times before the first Surge to resend all three final positions. The first Surge uses positions 1 and 2, the second uses position 3, and the fourth target acts as a reserve that receives no direction arrow. Assignments can go wrong if deselection messages linger among the latest three, so clean up your selections before the pull.

Receive Assignments on a member's rotating map is off by default. When disabled, the addon shows received positions without tracking Surge targets. Change this setting before combat, not during it.

Combat Behavior and Key Bindings

World of Warcraft's standard key binding settings support both Marker Announcement and Send Positions, so you can wire them to comfortable keys. The X button uses a secure click to close the window during combat. Reopening, moving, and resizing all require combat to end, so if you need the window again mid-fight, leave it open.

For players who prefer a streamlined setup, the foxygame.net launcher handles the entire process with a single click, dropping SZHelper straight into your AddOns folder without any manual file juggling.

Compatibility Across WoW Versions

SZHelper for World of Warcraft is designed with broad version support in mind. It runs on Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. Because the underlying marker and position systems differ slightly between eras, always confirm the addon build matches your client before a raid night.

How to Install

Installation is straightforward. Close the game, place the extracted folder into your World of Warcraft Interface AddOns directory, then launch and enable it from the character select screen. If you download SZHelper from a launcher that manages versions automatically, the correct build is selected for you.

Validation Status and Caveats

Lua syntax and simulated selection, reception, and assignment checks have passed. A user confirmed in-game that manually resetting assignments clears the queue. However, automatic reset and renewed reception on the next cycle have not yet been verified in a live encounter. The latest in-combat X-button fix passed code checks but still needs in-game verification.

If you raid regularly and want fewer voice-chat arguments about who stands where, SZHelper is worth the install. Test it in a low-stakes run first, learn the wheel, and let it carry the busywork on progression night.
