Second Thoughts
You died. It happens to everyone. Maybe the boss stepped on you, maybe you stood in something spicy, or maybe your healer had other priorities. Whatever the cause, your mouse is now hovering dangerously close to Release Spirit, and that single click could cost your raid a battle resurrection or leave you jogging back alone while everyone watches. Second Thoughts exists for exactly this moment.
This lightweight addon for World of Warcraft inserts a confirmation step before you release your spirit in the group types you choose. Instead of instantly committing to the walk of shame, you get one final prompt asking whether you are absolutely sure. It is a small pause that prevents very large regrets.
What Second Thoughts Actually Does
When you click Release Spirit inside a protected raid or party, Second Thoughts intercepts the action and asks one important question: are you sure you want to explain why you got killed running back alone? There might be a Soulstone waiting. There might be a battle rez incoming. There might be a healer already casting a resurrection on you. And there is almost certainly someone in the raid who will remember that you released too soon.
The addon does not try to detect whether a Soulstone or battle resurrection is genuinely available. It simply gives you one last opportunity to reconsider your choices before committing. The safe choice is still staying dead. We have standards.
Protection Options and Configuration
Second Thoughts lets you decide exactly where the safety net applies. You can enable protection independently for the following group types:
- Raids, which are protected by default
- Parties, which are optional
- Both at the same time
- Neither, if you enjoy living dangerously
If Second Thoughts is not enabled for your current group type, Blizzard's normal Release Spirit behavior is left completely untouched. Your settings are saved account-wide between sessions, so you configure it once and forget about it.
Slash Commands
Type /st to open the configuration window. The command /st config opens the same window, while /st test previews the confirmation dialog. The test command is completely safe to use while alive and will never release your character.
Compatibility Across World of Warcraft Versions
Second Thoughts for World of Warcraft is built to travel across the many faces of Azeroth. Whether you are raiding current content on Retail, reliving the old days in Classic, or pushing through The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, or Mists of Pandaria, the addon behaves consistently. Because it hooks into the standard Release Spirit flow rather than any expansion-specific system, version compatibility stays broad and maintenance stays simple.
If you manage a large addon collection, the foxygame.net launcher streamlines the process by offering a curated catalog where Second Thoughts sits alongside your other essentials, complete with one-click install and automatic updates so your protection never falls out of date.
How to Install Second Thoughts
Getting started is quick. Follow these steps to download Second Thoughts and set it up:
- Download the addon from your preferred source and extract the folder.
- Place the Second Thoughts folder inside your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory.
- Restart the game or reload your interface.
- Type /st in chat to open the configuration window and choose your protected group types.
Once installed, the addon runs quietly in the background. You will only notice it at the exact moment it matters, which is precisely the point.
Why Does This Exist?
Because this addon was requested during an actual raid, after someone decided that perhaps raiders needed a second confirmation before releasing. A working, if somewhat questionable, version was running before that same raid ended. It has since acquired a repository, a configuration screen, actual deployment procedures, and considerably better judgment. The raiders remain a work in progress.
If you have ever watched a battle resurrection get wasted on someone who already released, or found yourself walking back through a dungeon alone, Second Thoughts is the quiet insurance policy your raid roster deserves. Think twice. Stay dead. Save yourself the explanation.
