RaidSplitter

Modern raid encounters love to force your group apart. One boss demands you divide into two balanced halves, another wants a small strike team peeled off to handle an add, and somehow you have to keep tanks, healers, and essential buffs spread evenly across every side. Doing that manually before each pull is tedious, and someone always gets forgotten. RaidSplitter is the addon that handles the math for you, and once you try it you will not want to go back to dragging raid frames around by hand.

What RaidSplitter Actually Does

The core idea is simple. You target the boss, and RaidSplitter opens a window with a proposed split. That window shows you the breakdown per side, which buffs are covered, and how many individual moves the addon will perform to make it happen. If the plan looks good, one click moves everyone into the correct group. If it does not, you close the window and nothing happens.

Nothing ever fires mid-combat, and the addon only responds if you are the raid leader or an assistant. You get one prompt per encounter, so there is no spam and no accidental reshuffling while people are positioning. If your roster simply does not have enough tanks or healers for the split you requested, RaidSplitter tells you in red text instead of quietly spreading your players thin and hoping for the best.

Buff Tracking That Actually Matters

This is where the addon earns its keep. Two effects are treated as critical: Bloodlust or Heroism, and battle resurrection. RaidSplitter does its best to guarantee one of each on every side of the split.

From there it tracks target debuffs like Chaos Brand and Mystic Touch, raid defensives such as Rallying Cry, Anti-Magic Zone, Darkness, Spirit Link, and Devotion Aura, plus utility options including Mass Dispel, Power Infusion, Innervate, and Healthstone. If your raid only has one of something, the addon says so rather than pretending the balance is fine.

Pod Mode and the Built-In Simulator

Sometimes you need to send a handful of DPS off to deal with a mechanic on the side, usually without a tank. Pod mode covers exactly that scenario. Choose how many DPS to send, optionally add a healer or tank, and decide how the group fills: buff-first, ranged, melee, or random. The buff-first option guarantees a battle res, Chaos Brand, and Mystic Touch in the pod. The rest of the raid stays together on the other side.

Want to test ideas without risking a real pull? Type /rs sim to open a separate simulator window. You can generate a random 10 to 30 player raid, build a comp by hand, or load your current group. The result appears as a class-colored raid frame with the buffs shown on each side. Pick the encounter, then hit Apply to push it to the actual group.

Supported Game Versions and Compatibility

RaidSplitter for World of Warcraft works across the major client versions players are running today, including Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, and MoP. It ships preconfigured for The Venomous Abyss with all eight patch 12.1 bosses, and targeting any council member is enough to trigger the split window. You can add your own encounters with /rs add.

If you run BigWigs or DBM, the addon uses LibSpecialization for accurate spec and melee versus ranged detection. Without them it falls back to class-based detection, which is a bit rougher but still functional. There are no required dependencies and nothing extra to install. The interface is also available in French.

If you would rather skip manual folder juggling, the foxygame.net launcher installs RaidSplitter in a single click and keeps it updated automatically, so your version always matches the current game client. That is a convenient option for players who run several WoW versions side by side.

Commands Worth Memorizing

  • /rs sim opens the simulator window.
  • /rs go [n] applies a split to the group.
  • /rs pod <dps> [buffs|dist|cac|rand] [heals] [tank] builds a side team.
  • /rs add <npcID> [n] registers a new encounter.
  • /rs list shows your saved encounters.
  • /rs target and /rs reset handle targeting and cleanup.

How to Install RaidSplitter

If you want to download RaidSplitter, grab the addon package, extract the folder into your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory, and restart the client. The process takes under a minute, and there is nothing to configure before your first pull. Once you are in raid, target the boss and the split window appears on its own.

RaidSplitter is still early in development, so if a split looks off or something breaks, leaving feedback helps the author tighten things up. Even in its current state it removes one of the most annoying chores in raid leading, and that alone makes it worth a slot in your addon list.
