Preytell

The Prey Hunt Table hands you fifteen hunts a week and tells you nothing about which of them are worth taking. Preytell fixes that with a single bouncing arrow over the hunts that matter, and a tooltip that explains the reason the moment you hover. It is not a hunt tracker, it does not count your kills, and it never opens a window. It answers one question, on the map you are already looking at: should I take this hunt?

Why the Information Was Always There, Just Out of Reach

The answer has existed all along, buried in the Prey achievements. Once you count the pair achievements and the Coiled Isle set, that is 43 of them. Reading it means closing the map, opening the achievement pane, and holding fifteen creature names in your head on the way back. Preytell does that read for you and puts the verdict where the decision is actually made.

Most addons of this shape mark everything they know about and leave you to sort out which marks matter. That is the same problem in a different place. There are exactly two reasons to take a prey hunt, so there are exactly two marks. A bright arrow means the kill closes an achievement box you still have open. A faint one means you have never killed this creature at all.

What Preytell Actually Does

  • An arrow over the hunts worth taking, using the game's own tutorial pointer, bouncing gently over the pin and coloured green, orange or red for Normal, Hard and Nightmare.
  • A tooltip that names the achievement, for example "Completes Prey: Nightmare Mode II", plus which difficulties you have already beaten it on, by name, on the second line.
  • A verdict on the quest page. Open a hunt you have taken in the map's quest log and read "Worth doing" or "Drop it", with the reason.
  • A verdict on Astalor's random hunt, which also works with Immersion and DialogueUI.
  • A panel that cannot get lost. Drag it where you like and it is remembered against the map, so moving or resizing the map takes it along. Drop it near an edge and it lines up flush.
  • Coverage of every achievement a prey kill can tick: the Normal, Hard and Nightmare Mode series, all twenty-eight pair achievements, Gotta Hunt Them All, and the Coiled Isle set.

Achievements are account-wide and retroactive, and Preytell keeps its own log for prey that no achievement lists yet. It stays quiet, too. No window, no minimap button, nothing printed at login, and nothing at all running while the hunt table and hunt quests are closed.

If you prefer a hands-off setup, the foxygame.net launcher installs Preytell in a single click and keeps it current through every patch, so your hunt table never goes stale between updates.

Supported Game Versions and Addon Compatibility

Preytell is built for World of Warcraft Retail, running on patch 12.1, and works alongside other prey and hunt addons without conflict. If you play other flavours of the game, it is worth knowing that the broader addon ecosystem covers Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm and MoP, and compatibility varies by client, so always check the version listed on the addon page before you install.

Nothing is written to Blizzard's frames. The marks are Preytell's own, anchored to the pins, so it never taints the hunt table and never sits between you and a click. If a patch renumbers the achievements, /ptell check says so in one line instead of the addon quietly deciding nothing is worth doing. There are no libraries and no embedded code, and the license is All Rights Reserved, free to download and use but not open source.

How to Install Preytell

To download Preytell, grab the archive from the addon page and extract the Preytell folder into your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory. Restart the client or reload your interface, and the addon will be active the next time you open the hunt table. Settings live on one page inside the game's own settings window, covering which marks to draw, colour by difficulty, opacity, the arrow's size and height, and whether it bounces. The slash command /ptell opens it directly.

Preytell is also known as a prey hunt addon, hunt table addon, achievement tracker addon, map pin addon, and quest helper addon for World of Warcraft Retail. If you have searched for the prey hunt table addon, wondered which prey hunt you should do, or chased the Nightmare Mode prey and Gotta Hunt Them All, this is the tool that answers the question before you commit your weekly hunts.

The Bottom Line

Preytell does one job and does it without clutter. It reads the achievements you would otherwise have to memorise, marks only the hunts that earn a mark, and explains itself on hover. For players working through the prey achievement list, that is the difference between guessing at fifteen hunts a week and knowing exactly which ones to take.
