GatherValue: Track Farming Gold per Hour in WoW

GatherValue tracks the Auction House value of everything you gather, disenchant, mill or prospect, showing real gold per hour for World of Warcraft.

GatherValue

You spend an hour farming herbs in Nagrand, a stack of ore in the Barrens, or a pile of cloth in a dungeon. The bags are full, but the real question is always the same: what was that hour actually worth? GatherValue answers it. This addon tracks the Auction House value of everything you gather, plus what you get from disenchanting, milling and prospecting, using prices it records itself. No companion addon, no price feed subscription, no guesswork.

What GatherValue Counts, and What It Ignores

The design philosophy here is honesty. GatherValue only counts items that come from a harvest or a transformation. Mining, herbalism, skinning and fishing nodes all feed the tracker. So do Enchanting disenchanting, Inscription milling and Jewelcrafting prospecting.

What never gets counted matters just as much:

  • Mail and bank withdrawals
  • Auction House purchases
  • Quest rewards
  • Group loot from other players

That means your numbers reflect your own effort, not a trade window. For disenchanting, milling and prospecting, the materials you consume are recorded as a cost, so you see net value with the cost and full details on hover.

The Session Window and Session Goals

The session window lists every item you gathered with its value, and calculates gold per hour live. Columns are sortable, and you can pause the timer whenever you take a break. It even survives a /reload, so a UI hiccup does not wipe your progress.

Set a session goal and GatherValue shows progress plus an estimated time left. When you hit the target, a message and a sound fire off, even if the window is closed. If you prefer a quieter setup, the minimap button is built with LibDBIcon, so button organisers can file it away where you like.

Auction House Scanning and Price History

A full Auction House scan takes roughly 25 seconds. You can trigger it with a button or let it run automatically when you open the Auction House. GatherValue politely waits for other Auction House addons to finish, and if a scan gets interrupted, the prices it already recorded are kept.

Star your favourite items and the addon watches them. After each scan, a window lists starred items now listed higher than at the previous scan, showing the old price, the new price and the rise, with an adjustable threshold. A price history graph covers 7 days, 14 days or 1 month, displaying minimum, average and maximum alongside selling advice based on where today's price sits in that range. The same recorded price and advice appear directly in item tooltips.

Statistics, Comfort and Compatibility

Statistics span all your characters: sessions, time, value, average and current gold per hour, personal records and a per-profession table, viewable over 7 days, 30 days or all time. A daily reminder warns you when your realm's prices are out of date, delivered as a chat message, a pop-up, or turned off entirely.

Windows are customisable with five border styles, any colour you want, or your class colour. Sounds are configurable per cue, including any sound id, spoken game lines included. The addon is event-driven and lightweight, so nothing runs while nothing happens. It supports English and French, and ships as free software under the GPL-3.0 license.

If you play on multiple versions, GatherValue for World of Warcraft covers Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm and MoP, so your farming data travels with you across eras. Keeping it current is simple too: the foxygame.net launcher places GatherValue in its addon catalog and pushes automatic updates, so your version compatibility is handled without you thinking about it. To download GatherValue, grab it from your usual addon source, then follow the standard how to install steps: drop the folder into your Interface/AddOns directory and restart the client.

Commands and Troubleshooting

Type /gv help in game for the full command list. The essentials:

  • /gv — show or hide the session window
  • /gv stats — statistics
  • /gv scan — full Auction House scan (Auction House must be open)
  • /gv options — options panel

Found a bug? Enable diagnostics in the options or type /gv debug, reproduce the problem, then open /gv log and include its contents in your report along with your game language.

Final Thoughts

GatherValue turns vague farming sessions into hard numbers. It counts only what you actually produce, prices it against a market it tracks itself, and shows you whether that hour was worth the time. For gatherers, enchanters, scribes and jewelcrafters across every WoW version, it is one of the cleanest ways to know your true gold per hour.
