Gold farming in World of Warcraft has always been a numbers game, but most players track those numbers in their heads. FarmEffective changes that by turning every farming run into a real, trackable session. It is not just a loot counter. It is a decision-making tool that helps you understand what a run is worth, when it is actually finished, and when it should finally count as sold.
What FarmEffective Does for World of Warcraft Players
FarmEffective builds structured sessions around your farming workflow. Instead of a single endless tally, you start, pause, resume, and stop sessions just like you would manage a task. While a session is active, you see live loot, raw gold, gold per hour, item count, and your most valuable items in real time. Shift shortcuts give you finer control: Shift+Start forces a brand new session, while Shift+Stop ends only the current run without marking the whole session as sold.
The addon deliberately separates three states that most trackers ignore:
- Open: the session is ongoing or intended for auto-resume later
- Ended: the run is over, but the session has not been sold yet
- Sold: the session is truly completed and final
This matters because a farm run rarely ends when the farming stops. You might hold items for the auction house, wait for prices to recover, or simply continue the same session tomorrow. FarmEffective respects that reality.
Supported Game Versions and Addon Compatibility
FarmEffective for World of Warcraft is built with modern Retail in mind, and it fits neatly into the current addon ecosystem. If you play on Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, or MoP realms, compatibility depends on the interface version and the price source addons available on that client. The addon is designed to work alongside your existing auction house tools rather than replacing them, so your setup stays familiar no matter which version of the game you log into.
Price Sources and Setup
FarmEffective uses the price source you already have loaded. On first launch, a setup wizard asks which source you want to use, and only available options are shown. Depending on your installation, supported sources may include Auctionator, Auctioneer, AuctionMaster, TSM, Oribos Exchange, or vendor value as a fallback. History, Recalculation, and Selling Decisions
The History View is where FarmEffective really shines. Stopped sessions can remain open or ended, ended sessions can be resumed manually, and unsold sessions can be recalculated later with current auction house data. Only sessions you mark as sold are treated as final. If the addon detects during an AH visit that tracked items have disappeared from your bags, it remembers that change and asks, after the auction house closes, whether the last unsold session should now be marked as sold.
Bag Review and Compact View
Bag Review shows what in your bags is actually relevant and tradeable after farming. It filters for commodities, consumables, BoEs, and watchlist items, and lets you save visible bag-review items as a session snapshot into history. The Compact View keeps the most important values visible in a lightweight format, auto-minimizes when a session starts, and can directly replace other addon views when farming begins.
Commands and Convenience Features
If you prefer slash commands, you can control everything directly:
- /fe opens the main window
- /fe start, /fe pause, /fe resume, and /fe stop manage the active session
- /fe history opens the History View
- /fe compact toggles the Compact View
- /fe settings opens the dedicated settings view
Floating text combines quick consecutive loot values into a single total, and valuable loot events can optionally trigger a gold coin sound. Mail loot is ignored by default. A dedicated settings view with left-side navigation replaces the old reliance on Blizzard settings controls, and the setup tutorial can configure an optional WoW Token reminder after you close the auction house when your target price is undercut.
How to Install FarmEffective
To download FarmEffective, grab the latest release from your preferred addon source, extract the folder into your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory, and restart the client. The setup wizard will guide you through your first decisions. From there, every farm run becomes a session you can value, revisit, and sell on your own terms. FarmEffective is intentionally not an all-in-one inventory utility. Its focus is farming sessions, valuation through price sources, history and recalculation, and clear, compact presentation during and after farming. That focus is exactly what makes it trustworthy.
