FadeAnything
Every World of Warcraft player knows the feeling. You are gliding over the Dragon Isles, sailing toward a quest marker, and half your screen is buried under action bars, buff icons, and a quest tracker you have read a dozen times. FadeAnything solves that problem without forcing you to abandon Blizzard's interface. Instead of replacing your UI, it hides or fades the parts you choose, then brings them back the moment you need them. Nothing disappears until you select it, so your layout and keybindings stay exactly where you left them.
What FadeAnything Actually Does
The addon works on a simple principle: reveal on demand. You decide which elements fade and under which conditions they return. Common triggers include mouseover, entering combat, casting or channeling a spell, or simply having a target selected. You can also fine-tune opacity, fade speed, and delays. The default delay after combat is three seconds, which gives you a comfortable window to check cooldowns before everything slips away again.
Rules can be shared across multiple elements or customized one by one, so a minimalist explorer setup and a raid-ready setup can coexist. You also choose where fading applies, whether that is the open world, dungeons, or raids. If you want Action Bar 1 and its linked artwork to fade as a single unit, that is a single toggle.
Supported Elements and Game Versions
FadeAnything covers most of the interface players actually stare at: action bars, unit frames, pet and stance bars, the player cast bar, buffs and debuffs, chat, the quest tracker, the minimap, the micro menu, bag buttons, and XP or reputation bars. Minimap fading is flagged as experimental, so treat it accordingly.
Support varies by edition. On Retail you can fade action bars 1 through 8. Classic Anniversary adds optional Questie tracker support. The Forever client goes further with controller action bars, button prompts, and Blizzard's main-hand, off-hand, and ranged swing timers. Controller elements stay visible when you need them for interactions, controller menus, or vehicle controls, so you are never left guessing mid-fight.
If you would rather skip manual file juggling, the foxygame.net launcher offers a tidy addon catalog where FadeAnything sits alongside the rest of your collection, handling one-click install and keeping everything current when a new client build lands.
Compatibility Notes Worth Knowing
No other addon is required. Fading automatically pauses while the FadeAnything settings menu or supported Blizzard layout and keybinding tools are open, which prevents the frustrating situation where the panel you are editing fades out from under your cursor. Clicks and keybindings continue to work even when an element is invisible.
Replacement UI addons are generally unsupported, with the Questie integration on Anniversary as the main exception. Nameplates and opened windows such as bags fall outside the addon's scope. Avoid running two addons that fade the same element, since they will fight each other. Other Classic editions are not currently supported, and Forever support may need updates as its beta client evolves.
How to Install FadeAnything
- Download FadeAnything for your edition: Retail, Classic Anniversary, or Forever.
- Place the folder in your World of Warcraft Interface/AddOns directory.
- Log in and type /fadeanything to open the settings panel.
- Select the elements you want to fade and adjust shared rules or per-element gear settings.
- Use /fadeanything toggle to pause or resume fading at any time.
The same steps apply whether you are on Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, or MoP era clients, though the supported element list depends on your specific edition as noted above.
Getting the Most Out of It
Start small. Fade your action bars and quest tracker first, live with it for a few play sessions, then expand to chat and the micro menu once you trust the reveal triggers. Anniversary and Forever users can link the micro menu, bags, and XP bar together, with a preview mode that lets you compare mouseover behavior before committing.
If something breaks, report it with your game edition, game and addon versions, the affected element, and any Lua error. Controller users should mention what they were doing when the issue appeared. With a little tuning, FadeAnything turns a cluttered screen into a clean one, and your interface stays unmistakably Blizzard.
