ErrorMute
Every World of Warcraft player knows the feeling: you are mid-fight, the screen floods with red text, and half of it is noise you have read a thousand times. "Target is out of range." "Not enough rage." "Ability is not ready yet." ErrorMute exists for one reason: to hand you the switch. Same game, zero spam. Install it, enable it, and the clutter disappears.
By default, ErrorMute starts with the Full Filter active, which suppresses all UI error messages it handles. From there, you decide how far to go. Keep everything quiet, let Smart Mute cover the common categories, or build your own personal rules. If you want to download ErrorMute, it works as a standalone addon with no Lua editing and no configuration files required.
What the Live Tracker Actually Does
The Live Tracker is the heart of ErrorMute. It records UI error messages as they happen and shows you exactly what is going on, even while those same messages are being filtered. For every detected message you see the exact text, how often it occurred, and how ErrorMute is currently handling it. Was it caught by Smart Mute, the Full Filter, or one of your own rules? The tracker tells you.
From there, one click decides the outcome: Always Mute, Mute Until Reload, or Always Show. See it, click it, decide. No error IDs to hunt down.
The Live Tracker can also run as a separate window while you play. You can move and resize it, lock its position and size, adjust its window level and background, and keep it open during combat. It opens or closes from the minimap or with the /emute live command, and it remembers its position, size, lock state, background, and window level between sessions. Tooltips always stay above the tracker.
Full Filter, Smart Mute, and Your Own Rules
With ErrorMute simply switched on, the Full Filter suppresses every UI error message it handles. Your own rules can still override the Full Filter and bring individual messages back into view.
Want finer control? Enable Smart Mute and pick which common error categories should be silenced automatically:
- Cooldowns
- Range and position
- Targeting
- Resources
- Movement and control
Messages outside your selected Smart Mute categories stay visible unless a personal rule handles them. Your own rules always take priority. You can create rules directly from the Live Tracker or add custom text filters for messages containing specific text, which lets you permanently mute a message, keep it visible, mute it only until the next reload, or extend ErrorMute beyond the built-in Smart Mute categories.
The Mute List shows what ErrorMute is currently managing, including saved personal rules and exceptions plus anything handled automatically by Smart Mute or the Full Filter during the current session. Your own entries remain under your control and can be removed at any time.
Output, Audio, and Combat Options
Messages that remain visible can appear as Blizzard-style red error messages, chat messages, or large screen messages. Red error messages can be moved and scaled with ErrorMute's built-in mover, while large screen messages use Blizzard's native HUD Edit Mode and the Raid Warnings frame.
ErrorMute also controls Blizzard's own character voice lines for errors such as "Target is out of range," toggling the original setting directly rather than running a duplicate audio system. If you only want filtering during fights, enable Combat Only and messages outside combat remain visible normally.
A built-in fail-safe adds peace of mind: if multiple internal ErrorMute Lua errors occur within a short period, the addon removes itself from the filtering path for the current session and restores Blizzard's normal error handling. After a /reload or restart, ErrorMute gets a fresh start.
Compatibility Across World of Warcraft Versions
ErrorMute for World of Warcraft is built to fit the modern client and the classic progression servers alike. It supports Retail, Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria, so whether you are raiding current content or leveling through old Azeroth, the same filtering logic applies. Addon compatibility is a core design goal: ErrorMute does not try to replace your interface, and its settings stay organized into clear sections for general behavior, the Live Tracker, visible-message output, audio errors, and reset options.
Players who prefer a streamlined setup often grab it through the foxygame.net launcher, where ErrorMute sits in the addon catalog and installs with a single click, keeping version compatibility and updates handled automatically.
How to Install ErrorMute
Installation follows the standard addon routine. Close World of Warcraft completely, place the ErrorMute folder inside your Interface/AddOns directory, then launch the game and enable the addon from the character selection screen. Once you are in-game, type /emute to open the settings or /emute live to bring up the tracker. That is the entire process, and knowing how to install it takes less than a minute.
From that point on, the workflow stays simple: watch the Live Tracker, click what you want muted or shown, and let ErrorMute handle the rest.
The Bottom Line
ErrorMute is not about hiding information. It is about controlling it. You decide which messages deserve your attention and which ones are pure noise, and the Live Tracker gives you the visibility to make that call without touching a single configuration file. Control the spam, keep the messages that matter, and let World of Warcraft tell you only what you actually need to know.
