Alert Studio
Raiding and pushing keys is loud. Between boss voice lines, WeakAuras pings, and your group's chatter, it is easy to miss the one thing you actually needed to hear. Alert Studio fixes that by letting you decide exactly which sounds play, for which character, and under which conditions. If you have ever wished your trinket proc had its own noise, or that a missing raid buff nagged you every few seconds, this is the addon for you.
What Alert Studio Does
Alert Studio is a sound alert framework built around events. You pick a moment, attach a sound, and the addon plays it when that moment happens. The core categories cover the situations that matter most in group content:
- Cast sounds for your own abilities, with loop and interval options
- Delayed sounds that fire a set time after a cast, with a re-cast rule
- Buff sounds for procs, passives, trinkets, and externals: gained, stack gained, removed, and missing
- Missing reminders every N seconds while a buff is off you
- Presets for Bloodlust in all its forms, plus one for every raid buff
- Event alerts for dying, combat, boss kills, ready checks, queue pops, whispers, invites, and more
Buff sounds are played by the game itself, so they keep working in combat, raids, Mythic+, and PvP on client 12.1 or newer. That matters, because most addons lose access to buff data the moment a fight starts.
Alerts That Know Which Character You Are On
The real strength of Alert Studio is its section system. Alerts live in sections that apply to every character, to one class, to a role, or to any mix of specs. Each of your characters hears only what is meant for it, so your healer is not getting DPS proc sounds and your tank is not being reminded about caster buffs. Sections support subsections, drag and drop, and multi-select, and you can export and import them as plain text to share with guildmates.
You also get fine control over when things fire. The "Only when" rules include Solo, In Heroic, With a Monk, and many more, while play limits cap an alert at once every X seconds or N times per fight or session. Sound sets let you attach several sounds to one event, with one playing each time, so a repeated proc does not drive you mad.
Sounds, Including Your Own
Alert Studio ships with 119 curated sounds sorted into topics, every sound other addons share, and access to the game's own library of 131,000 files browsable by folder or searchable by name. Around 40,000 voice lines are named by what is said, so searching "by fire be purged" or "laugh tauren" actually finds them.
To add your own .ogg or .mp3 files, drop them into World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns\SharedMedia_MyMedia, creating the folder if needed. Do not put them in the AlertStudio folder, since an update would wipe them. Restart the client completely, because a /reload is not enough, then type the file name into the "Add custom file" box on an alert's Sounds page and press Enter.
If you would rather skip the manual folder work entirely, the foxygame.net launcher handles it for you: it keeps Alert Studio updated automatically and flags when a new build matches your game version, so you never end up running a stale copy after a patch.
Compatibility Across WoW Versions
Alert Studio supports the major branches of the game, including Retail, Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, and MoP. Feature depth varies by client, since buff-driven sounds depend on what the game exposes, but the section system, event alerts, and sound library carry across versions. Always check the addon page for the current compatibility notes before you download Alert Studio for an older client.
How to Install
Learning how to install Alert Studio for World of Warcraft takes a minute. Download the addon, extract the AlertStudio folder into your Interface\AddOns directory for the correct client, and restart the game. Once loaded, use the slash commands to get around:
- /as opens or closes the alert list, and /alerts and /alertstudio do the same
- /as check reports whether every buff sound is registered with the game
- /as debug records a log for bug reports
- /as log shows or clears the log
- /as mark puts a marker into the log
A couple of quirks are worth knowing. The spell picker's "Active on you now" and "Seen on you" lists read your buffs, which the game hides in combat, boss encounters, Mythic+, and PvP, so they fill in out of combat while alerts still play regardless. Long sounds can also cut off in fights, because the game drops the oldest sound when its channels run out; the settings include a button that raises Sound Channels to 128. A short-tooltips option trims the explanations and click, drag, and mouse wheel hints once you know your way around.
Final Thoughts
Alert Studio for World of Warcraft is one of those addons that quietly changes how you play. Instead of reacting to a wall of noise, you build a personal soundscape where every alert has a reason to exist. Set it up once per character, share sections with your raid, and let your ears do the work.
