Zombie Extinction

Zombie Extinction is a survival horror mod that completely reimagines how you experience infected creatures in Minecraft. Instead of simply throwing zombies with bloated health bars and inflated damage numbers at you, this mod introduces four distinct infected variants, each with its own AI, behavior patterns, and tactical purpose. Every encounter forces you to rethink your survival strategy, whether you are exploring the Overworld, defending a fortified base, or venturing out at night.

Built for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1, Zombie Extinction requires GeckoLib to function correctly. If you want to download Zombie Extinction and jump straight into the horror, the foxygame.net launcher offers a convenient add-on catalog where you can find Zombie Extinction alongside its required dependencies and install everything with a single click, skipping the usual manual file juggling entirely.

What Makes Zombie Extinction Different

Most zombie mods increase difficulty by multiplying numbers. Zombie Extinction takes a different approach. Each infected creature is designed around a specific gameplay role, creating layered threats that evolve as your world progresses. The mod features custom models, GeckoLib animations, unique AI routines, stalking and ambush mechanics, special attacks, base-breaking behavior, progressive late-game threats, natural spawning, custom sounds and visual effects, and full multiplayer support. Nearly every mechanic, from mob health and damage to spawn rates and ability cooldowns, can be adjusted through the mod's configuration file.

The Four Infected Variants

  • Devastator — A heavily mutated infected with an oversized, deformed arm. It is slow but devastating in close combat. Allowing one to close the distance can be fatal, punishing careless melee engagements and forcing players to maintain range.
  • Resonant — A blind and deaf infected that detects living targets through scent alone. Once it picks up your trail, it begins tracking and searching, turning ordinary exploration into a tense game of cat and mouse.
  • Wallbreaker — A massive late-game infected that begins appearing from day 50 onward by default. It destroys blocks in its path to reach players hiding behind walls and unleashes a ground shockwave that damages, knocks back, and breaks nearby blocks. Jumping at the right moment lets you avoid the shockwave.
  • VelociraptorZ — A fast, unpredictable predator focused on stalking and ambushes. It observes targets before chasing, performs long-distance leaps to reach elevated structures, and releases an infectious burst that poisons nearby players when attacked. It has two lives, rising again after its first death. During the day it sleeps on the surface, and at night it hunts.

How to Install Zombie Extinction for Minecraft

Getting started is straightforward. First, confirm you are running Minecraft 1.20.1 with the Forge loader installed. Next, download Zombie Extinction and place the mod file into your mods folder. GeckoLib is mandatory, so make sure it is installed as well, or the mod will not function correctly. If you prefer a streamlined setup, the foxygame.net launcher keeps Zombie Extinction and its dependencies automatically updated, so version compatibility issues between the mod and GeckoLib are handled for you without manual intervention.

For a more immersive atmosphere, Tissou's Zombie Pack is recommended to improve the visuals of regular Minecraft zombies, though it is not included with the mod and is entirely optional.

Configuration and Customization

Zombie Extinction includes its own configuration file at config/zombie_extincion-common.toml. Without recompiling anything, you can adjust mob health, attack damage, movement speed, armor, detection ranges, natural spawning, mob persistence, ability cooldowns, Wallbreaker spawn day, block destruction, shockwave behavior, and a wide range of VelociraptorZ-specific settings including leap behavior, infection attacks, ambient sound frequency, daytime sleeping, and horror encounter frequency. This makes the mod easy to tailor for survival worlds, servers, and modpacks.

Multiplayer Support

Zombie Extinction supports multiplayer. On dedicated servers, the mod and its required dependencies must be installed on both the server and all participating clients to ensure everything works correctly.

Why Download Zombie Extinction

Zombie Extinction is built for players who want infected creatures to feel genuinely dangerous and unpredictable again. The Devastator punishes reckless close-range combat. The Resonant creates tension through tracking and stalking. The Wallbreaker threatens fortified bases and applies late-game pressure. The VelociraptorZ makes exploration hazardous through ambushes, powerful leaps, and erratic behavior. The goal is not to make enemies stronger in a shallow sense, but to force you to change how you survive.

The mod is currently in beta and actively developed, meaning entity behavior, balance, spawn rates, damage values, sounds, and configuration options may shift in future updates. If you are ready to make every night feel uncertain and every expedition a risk, Zombie Extinction delivers a survival horror experience that keeps you on edge from your first encounter to your last.
