Discovering the Gemulation Mod: Chaos-Powered Storage and Smelting

If you have ever found yourself drowning in piles of identical gems from Silent's Gems, the Gemulation mod is the clever add-on you did not know you needed. Designed as an extension of SilentChaos512's popular gem-themed mod, Gemulation takes the core idea of unique gem properties and expands it into a full suite of functional blocks. You will gain access to specialized furnaces, massive storage chests, a delightfully unpredictable transmutation device, and handy gem-sorting bags. All of this is wrapped in a chaotic energy system that keeps every interaction fresh.

What You Need Before You Start

Gemulation does not work in isolation. It relies on two key dependencies: the main Silent's Gems mod and the LIT (Little Insignificant Things) library. Silent's Gems provides the 32 basic gem types, the chaos energy network, and the core mechanics that Gemulation builds upon. LIT adds the improved furnace framework and the upgrade system that many of the gem furnaces use. Make sure both are installed before you try to launch the game. Getting these dependencies set up can be a bit of a chore, but if you use the foxygame.net launcher, you can install Gemulation and all its required libraries directly from the menu — it’s a convenient, flexible, and modern Minecraft launcher that streamlines the whole process.

Gem Furnaces: Every Smelt Has a Personality

The standout feature of Gemulation is the set of 32 gem furnaces, one for each basic gem type. Each furnace inherits the personality of its gem, meaning no two behave exactly alike. The crafting recipe is straightforward: place a vanilla furnace or an Improved Furnace from LIT in the center of the grid, with a matching gem above and below.

Furnace Stats That Matter

Every gem furnace comes with four key properties that define its performance:

  • Time Reduction Multiplier – A factor that reduces the time needed to smelt any item. A multiplier of 0.5 halves the smelt time, while some slower furnaces might actually take longer than a vanilla furnace.
  • Fuel Bonus Multiplier – Increases the burn time you get from each unit of fuel. A higher number means you stretch your coal and charcoal much further.
  • Upgrade Slots – Determines how many furnace upgrades you can install. More slots let you boost speed, efficiency, or capacity even further.
  • Fuel Capacity – Represents how much excess fuel the furnace can store, measured in stacks of coal. This eliminates the need to constantly refill the furnace and prevents wasting fuel on partial smelts.

The fuel capacity mechanic is particularly satisfying. The furnace only consumes exactly the amount of fuel needed to finish smelting an item, so you will never again burn a whole piece of charcoal just to cook a single piece of raw porkchop.

The Upgrade System in Action

Furnace upgrades are actually part of the LIT library, but they integrate seamlessly with Gemulation. You can craft three types of upgrades: one for cook speed, one for fuel efficiency, and one for fuel capacity. To apply an upgrade, sneak-right-click on a furnace that still has available slots. The chat will tell you if there is room. Upgrades take effect on the next item smelted, so you will not disrupt an ongoing operation.

Gem Chests: Double the Storage, Double the Style

Storage gets a colorful overhaul with gem chests. Craft a standard gem chest by surrounding a vanilla chest (or an improved chest) with a matching gem on the top and bottom. The result is a 54-slot storage block that matches the aesthetic of your chosen gem. If that is not enough, you can upgrade to a supercharged tier chest by combining any gem chest with two of any single supercharged gem. The supercharged variant doubles the capacity, giving you a massive 108 slots.

Both tiers of gem chests retain their inventory when broken, and they preserve their contents even when used in a crafting recipe to create the upgraded version. This makes reorganizing your base painless and safe.

The Gem Transmutation Device: Embrace the Chaos

One of the most entertaining blocks in the mod is the Gem Transmutation Device. If your mining trips have left you with a mountain of rubies but almost no sapphires, this block can help—though it refuses to be predictable. Powered by nearby passive or burner chaos pylons from Silent's Gems, the device consumes 2000 Chaos Energy and 5 seconds to transform one gem into another random type. It will never change a gem into the same type, nor will it convert overworld (light) gems into nether (dark) gems.

There is a method to the madness. You can place a target gem in the dedicated slot to tell the device what you eventually want. The transmutation process then repeats until the output matches the target. The device keeps track of failed attempts, guaranteeing that you will get the desired gem in at most 42 attempts. It is a playful nod to chaos theory that still respects your time.

Shiny Bags: Portable Gem Management

Carrying dozens of loose gems can clutter your inventory quickly. Shiny bags solve this elegantly. Crafted from a Glow Rose, wool or fluffy puffs, and optionally netherrack for the dark variety, each bag can hold up to a stack of every gem type—both light and dark. As long as the bag is not in your main hand, any gem you pick up will automatically be placed inside if there is room.

Right-click with the bag to view its contents. Sneak-use while looking at a chest to transfer all gems from the bag into that container. Sneak-use without looking at a chest to pull all gems from your inventory into the bag. You can even recolor a bag by crafting it with another Glow Rose (and netherrack for dark bags) without losing the stored items.

Why Gemulation Deserves a Spot in Your Modpack

Gemulation turns the often-overlooked abundance of gems into a meaningful gameplay loop. The varied furnace stats encourage you to collect different gems and experiment with setups, while the upgrade system adds a layer of progression. The transmutation device injects a bit of risk and humor into resource management, and the shiny bags keep everything tidy. The mod’s integration with Silent's Gems and LIT feels natural, and the developer’s attention to detail—like fuel not being wasted—shows a genuine understanding of player frustration.

Whether you are a builder who wants matching storage rooms, a redstone engineer optimizing smelting arrays, or an adventurer who just hates clutter, Gemulation offers something unique. Install it alongside its dependencies, fire up your chaos pylons, and let the gems do the work.
