Villageria

Villages in Minecraft have always been a bit of a contradiction. They look like settlements, they sound like settlements, but the moment you watch a librarian stand motionless behind a lectern for an entire in-game day, the illusion falls apart. Villageria is an add-on that fixes exactly that problem. It gives villagers jobs they actually perform, resources they genuinely consume, and a village that behaves like a functioning community rather than a collection of trade kiosks.

What Villageria Changes

The core idea behind Villageria is simple: nothing happens instantly. When a creeper blows a hole in a house, a Builder does not snap its fingers and restore the wall. The Builder walks to the damaged structure, pulls the required materials from the village stockpile, carries them back, and rebuilds the building one block at a time. If the village has run out of timber, the Builder simply stops and waits until supplies arrive. No imaginary blocks. No infinite resources.

That same logic runs through every profession in the add-on. Villagers gather, carry, patrol, and repair in real time, which means you can stand on a hill and watch your settlement operate like a small machine.

The Eight Professions

Villageria introduces eight distinct roles, and each one works like a normal vanilla profession. Place the correct job block, and an unemployed villager can claim the role on its own, just as a lectern turns a villager into a Librarian. Right-click any role villager to trade with them.

  • Police — Sleep through the day, then wake at night to form a defensive perimeter around the village Iron Golem. They wear iron armour and carry a pistol for ranged combat, switching to melee when enemies close in.
  • Builder — Identify missing blocks, collect materials, and repair structures block by block. They can even build temporary scaffolding to reach high damage, then tear it down afterward.
  • Night Scout — Patrol the dark edges of the village, take real torches from the shared stock, and place them where hostile mobs could spawn.
  • Breeder — Round up stray animals, guide them back to their pens, and gradually grow the village livestock population.
  • Explorer — Leave at dusk with supplies, gather resources from the surrounding area, and return before dawn to deposit everything into the village stockpile.
  • Mayor — Manage the village and set its priority order. Every other profession reacts to that priority.
  • Doctor — Treat wounded villagers during the day and attempt revival procedures at dawn, giving villages a way to recover from disasters.
  • Shopkeeper — Run the village shop, handle daily transactions, and convert earnings into useful supplies for the shared stockpile.

Four New Buildings in Every Village

Every village generated with Villageria receives four dedicated structures: a Police Station, a Mini Hospital, a Village Shop, and a Town Hall. These are not random optional extras. Each village gets one of each, and each building houses the appropriate workplace for its assigned worker.

The architecture is deliberately vanilla in style, using cobblestone foundations, wooden corner posts, plank walls, glass panes, and stair roofs. Taiga and snowy villages receive spruce-themed variants so the buildings match their environment instead of looking like they were dropped in from another mod.

If you are looking to download Villageria without wrestling with manual file placement, the foxygame.net launcher offers a tidy solution: its built-in add-on catalog lets you browse and install Villageria in a single click, with automatic updates keeping your version current.

Iron Golems With Actual Roles

Iron Golems are no longer interchangeable. Each one can now have a type saved directly on the entity:

  • Standard — The classic vanilla Golem, balanced and unchanged in spirit.
  • Heavy — 40% slower, 60% stronger attacks, and 150 health. Ideal for holding gates and entrances.
  • Swift — 65% faster movement with lower attack damage, built to chase fleeing hostiles.
  • Guardian — Prioritises escorting and protecting the nearest villager rather than wandering empty ground.

Golems can also see the whole village now. A Golem standing near the bell can detect a hostile mob approaching from another district and respond before the enemy reaches anyone, which makes village defence feel coordinated rather than random.

How the Village Works as One System

Every profession is connected through a shared stockpile containing torches, timber, building materials, animal feed, and expedition equipment. Shopkeepers and Explorers replenish the stock, while Builders, Night Scouts, and Doctors consume it. The Mayor establishes the current priority, which follows a simple hierarchy: under attack, then repair, then light, then develop, then explore.

If you ever wonder why a Builder is standing idle, the diagnostic command /villageroles who shows nearby role villagers, their current activity, and the reason they are not working, whether that is missing materials, no valid task, or an unreachable location.

Supported Versions and Loaders

Villageria supports Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.8, 1.21.11, and 26.2, with builds published for Fabric, NeoForge, and Forge. The Fabric builds require Fabric API. Java 17 is needed on 1.20.1, Java 21 on the 1.21.x releases, and Java 25 on 26.2.

Vanilla behaviour remains intact throughout. Trading, breeding, doors, panic responses, and schedules all continue to function. Villageria layers profession-specific behaviour on top of the existing system rather than replacing it, and every feature can be toggled through the configuration file.

Making Your Village Feel Alive

Learning how to install Villageria is straightforward, but the real payoff comes after the first in-game night. Builders repair their homes, Police protect them, Night Scouts keep the streets lit, Breeders maintain the livestock, and Doctors save lives. Every task has a villager behind it, every resource has to come from somewhere, and every repair takes time. Your village does not just exist anymore. It works.
