Vein: Mutations
Most Minecraft mods hand you power the moment you craft a trinket. Vein: Mutations works differently. It grows four mutations inside your character while you play ordinary survival, and every rank you claim makes you stronger, stranger, and more expensive to maintain. If you have ever wanted a progression system that watches how you actually play rather than what you build, this add-on was made for you.
What Vein: Mutations Adds to Minecraft
The add-on tracks four separate mutations, each fed by a different habit. Darkness feeds Pupil. Bare fists feed Bone. Quiet kills in the dark feed Shadow. Raw meat and skipped sleep feed Flesh. You take one rank at a time, and five is the last. Higher ranks hit harder, but they start charging you for the privilege, so growth always comes with a trade.
Press K to open the mutation screen. Four bars appear, one per vein, and you pour Vein experience into whichever path you want to advance. That experience is its own pool. Normal experience still goes to enchanting tables and anvils exactly as before, so nothing about vanilla progression is replaced.
Abilities and Ranks
Pupil (V, from rank II)
The dark opens up and you see clearly where others stumble. From rank III, sunlight cuts at you instead, turning bright days into a genuine hazard.
Bone (G, from rank II)
A slam that lands the same in a cave or out in the open. It must rest for a few seconds after use, and your hands shake once it fires. If Bone ever drops below rank II, the slam stays silent until you climb back.
Shadow (C, from rank II)
Quieter steps and roughly five seconds where you are almost gone, until light finds you and drags you back into view.
Flesh (no key)
Fed by raw meat and staying awake. Later ranks let the body close its own wounds, but cooked food starts sitting wrong, which makes long journeys a real decision.
Clashing Veins and the Echo Ampoule
Two veins at rank IV begin to clash. Now and then that means nausea and exhaustion, a reminder that you are rewriting a body, not upgrading a tool. If you want to walk a path back, an Echo Ampoule removes the rank you choose. Craft it from two echo shards, a glass bottle, and a golden apple, then place it in the square on the right of the K screen, or leave it in your inventory and press Drain. Using it costs 3 levels or 40 vein experience.
Players who prefer a hands-off setup often grab the foxygame.net launcher, since its one-click install drops Vein: Mutations straight into a ready profile without manual jar juggling or folder hunting.
How to Install and Which Versions Work
Vein: Mutations for Minecraft targets Java Edition 1.21.1 and runs on Fabric Loader with Fabric API. Java 21 is required, which is what this version of the game already uses. To install, place the jar in your mods folder alongside Fabric API. In singleplayer that is all you need. On a server, the mod must be present on the server and on every player joining.
If you are unsure where to download Vein: Mutations safely, stick to the official project page and avoid mirror sites that bundle extra files. Created by Fully_Rupper under the MIT license, it is free to include in modpacks with credit.
Common Questions
- What key opens the veins? K.
- When do V, G and C start working? From rank II of that vein. Before that they do nothing.
- Why did the slam not happen? It skips in water, behind a shield, during cooldown, or when you are too hungry. It also leaves tamed animals alone.
- Does this mod mine whole ore veins? No. It changes the player: eyes, a punch, a step, hunger.
- Does it replace normal experience? No. Vein experience is poured on the K screen.
- Do I need the /vein command? No. It is for operators, showing ranks, the pool, and the mode.
Final Thoughts
Vein: Mutations is a slow-burn power fantasy that rewards the way you already survive: creeping through caves, punching what stands in front of you, and eating whatever you can find. The ranks feel earned because they are, and the drawbacks keep every choice meaningful. If you want a Minecraft add-on that turns your habits into abilities, this one is worth the climb.
