Vaskars Remains - Lootable Corpses & Decay
Death in Minecraft has always been a little too clean. You fall, you respawn, and the world moves on as if nothing happened. Vaskars Remains - Lootable Corpses & Decay changes that completely. This add-on makes every death leave a physical body behind, one you can search, drag, hang, bury, or simply watch rot through five gruesome stages. Whether you are hunting mobs, exploring ruins, or recovering your own gear after a bad creeper encounter, the world now remembers what died and where.
Every Death Leaves a Body
Players, mobs, and NPCs all drop corpses when they die. Animal bodies are optional, so you can keep your farm tidy if you prefer. Each body shows how it died, with visible wounds such as stabbed, slashed, beheaded, burnt, frozen, drowned, crushed, poisoned, mauled, and starved. Even skeletons keep their marks, from cracks and rusted holes to bite marks and algae. Bodies also ragdoll on death, falling away from the hit and staying where they land, which makes combat feel far more physical than vanilla Minecraft ever managed.
Loot Piece by Piece
Searching a body is not a single click that empties a loot table. Every click takes one item, working from pockets and weapons down to armour and the arrow still stuck in the corpse. Rotting bodies can make you sick, so there is real risk in rummaging through something that has been lying in the sun. You can also drag bodies with a sneak and an empty hand, hang them from fences or ceilings with a lead, nail them to walls with an arrow, sword, trident, axe, or pickaxe, or pick up a whole corpse using Silk Touch.
Decay, Blood, and the Dead That Rise
Bodies pass through five decay stages: fresh, bloated, opened, tattered, and bones. By default, a body moves from fresh to bones in about ten minutes, then the bones sink into the ground and drop whatever they still carry. Cold biomes slow the process down, which makes snowy regions oddly good for preserving your kills. Fresh bodies leave blood pools underneath them, splatter on walls after hard blows, and drag trails that dry over time and wash away in the rain.
Leave a fresh body out in the dark and it can get up as a zombie, still wearing its armour and keeping its name. Crows land on corpses, flies gather, and wolves, foxes, and zombies stop to eat. These small details turn a quiet forest into something that feels genuinely alive, and slightly wrong.
Your Own Body as a Grave
When you die, you leave a body in your own skin holding your inventory, armour, XP, and Curios items. One click puts everything back, armour included. Explosions cannot destroy it, and a body that falls into the void waits at the edge of the world instead of vanishing. It works with keepInventory, in which case the body is empty. If Corpse, GraveStone, Tombstone, or YIGD is installed, Remains politely hands player deaths over to that mod.
World Generation and Compatibility
Lone bodies spawn across snow, forests, mountains, jungles, swamps, deserts, beaches, oceans, caves, mineshafts, dungeons, dripstone caves, the Deep Dark, the Nether, and the End. You will stumble into scenes like camps, gallows, hanging trees, graves, shipwrecks, robbed caravans, battlefields, a ruined castle, and a ruined hamlet. On your first join, a few fresh bodies lie in front of you, along with a lead, an arrow, and a book explaining everything.
If you want to download Vaskars Remains - Lootable Corpses & Decay without juggling loader folders by hand, the foxygame.net launcher keeps this add-on in its catalog and handles version matching automatically, so the correct build for your profile is ready in a single click. Vaskars Remains - Lootable Corpses & Decay for Minecraft is built for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, and it must be installed on both client and server. Curios, JEI, and Jade are supported, and mods like Recruits soldiers, Guard Villagers, and Frontier Cohorts leave bodies too, with more possible through the entity tag.
How to Install and Configure
- Install the correct loader version, then place the add-on file in your mods folder.
- Repeat the process on the server, since both sides need it.
- Open the in-game settings menu or edit config/remains-common.toml.
- Choose a brutality level: bones only, mild, rough, or full.
- Adjust decay time, decide whether bones sink, stay, or despawn, and set which deaths leave bodies.
- Toggle blood, wounds, flies, crows, scavengers, sickness, dragging, and searching individually.
- Enable light mode if you play on a weaker PC.
Advancements reward searching, dragging, hanging, nailing, burying, and recovering your own things, plus a Coroner challenge for finding eight different causes of death. A creative body editor lets you set decay stage, cause of death, identity, and a pose you shape limb by limb, while outfits, poses, and loot live in data pack files.
Vaskars Remains - Lootable Corpses & Decay is one of those add-ons that quietly rewrites how you read a landscape. A trail of blood, a crow on a bloated corpse, a skeleton nailed to a wall, or your own body waiting at the edge of the void all tell you something happened here. Install it, and Minecraft stops forgetting.
