The Rus Against the Lizards
Slavic folklore meets total war in The Rus Against the Lizards, a NeoForge add-on that drops an entire conflict into your world. Humble villages, an ancestral hero, and a band of lizards determined to raze it all — this is not a quiet building mod. It is a small, self-contained war with currency, sieges, and a boss that will punish every mistake you make.
The mod is built for NeoForge and runs on modern Minecraft versions, including 1.21.x. It is required on both the client and the server, so everyone in your world needs it installed before the first raid horn sounds.
What The Rus Against the Lizards Adds
At its core, this add-on creates a conflict between two factions inside a brand-new biome. Everything happens in the Slavic Forest, a temperate grove of oak trees and farm animals that serves as the stage for the entire war.
Slavic Forest and Slavic Villages
The Slavic Forest generates naturally and hides two key structures. Slavic Villages spawn in the grove, built around a central well. Inside you will meet the Slavic Man, the Slavic Woman, the Elder, and the village's very own Bogatyr. If you are having trouble finding one, run the command /locate structure tral:slavic_village.
Lizard Camps
Lizard Camps also generate in the grove, garrisoned by Lizards, Engineers, Warriors, and a Lizard Woman gathered around their war banner. Use /locate structure tral:lizard_camp to track one down. These camps are dangerous, but they are also where the war begins.
Zlatnik: The Currency of the War
Everything in The Rus Against the Lizards for Minecraft revolves around zlatniks. Lizards drop one to three coins on death with a 45 percent chance, villagers buy your goods with them, raids yield a profit, and the Lizard Brute carries a small fortune. If you want to trade, you need to fight.
- The Elder: Buys expensive items such as Bogatyr Armor, Bottle of Baikal Water, and the Idol of Perun. He also purchases honey bottles and beetroot soup.
- Slavic Man (Armory): Sells the Bogatyr Mace and Sword, Spear, Shield, Bogatyr Helmet, and Bogatyr Light Chestplate. He also trades a Silk Touch pickaxe and a Sweeping Edge sword, swaps arrows for sticks, and buys iron.
- Slavic Woman (Food): Sells Pancakes, Dinosaur Eggs, eggs, bread, cake, and pie. She buys sweet berries, and if you get close she teaches you the Flower Crown recipe.
- Lizard Woman: She only trades if you wear the Lizard Head. She sells her Poisonous Sword for 40 zlatniks.

The Bogatyr: Your Brother-in-Arms
Every Slavic Village has a Bogatyr, and he is your champion in this war. Right-click him to open his equipment screen, where you can assign weapons, shields, and armor — all of which render visibly on his body. Command him to hold position or march with you. Feed him to heal him, and equip him with a full armor set to upgrade him to Level 2, which also changes his appearance.
Arm him with the mace, sword, spear, and shield from village trades, or hand him the legendary Big the Mace. He is the only one who can wield it.
Crafting Highlights
- Flower Crown: Poppies, daisies, string, and a vine. Grants Luck V but breaks on the first hit.
- Pancakes: Wheat, sweet berries, dinosaur eggs, sugar, and a bowl. Creates a placeable stack with seven bites.
- Lizard Head: Lizard scales around a leather helmet with two strings. Wear it to walk safely among lizards.
- Idol of Perun: A placeable idol whose aura grants the Power of Perun to players, villagers, and the Bogatyr within 20 blocks.
The Lizard Warband and the Raid
The Lizard Warband is a full military force. Common Lizards skirmish in packs, Warriors serve as elite troops, Engineers fire shotguns and breach walls when they cannot reach you, and the Lizard Woman heals nearby lizards while spawning new ones over time. All of them drop lizard scales.
To trigger the raid, kill the Lizard Warrior carrying the war banner in a camp. A horn sounds and you are marked with Reptilian Revenge. While marked, approaching a Slavic Village starts a siege of five escalating waves with a boss bar. Dying or fleeing more than roughly 128 blocks cancels it.
The Lizard Brute
The fifth wave brings the Lizard Brute: a slow, heavy monster with 300 HP and four telegraphed attacks, including a ground-shaking stomp and a double mace spin. Never stand behind him — his tail counterattacks with a heavy blow. At half health his helmet shatters and he enters phase two. Victory rewards you with zlatniks, diamonds, emeralds, gold, pancakes, and bottles of Baikal water.
How to Install The Rus Against the Lizards
Getting started is straightforward. Install NeoForge for your Minecraft version, then drop the mod's .jar file into your mods folder. Launch the game, locate a Slavic Village, meet your Bogatyr, and begin trading. Craft a Lizard Head as soon as possible, since walking safely among lizards makes early gameplay far easier. Gear up your champion, place an Idol of Perun, then go kill the banner bearer and defend the village.
All items appear in the mod's custom creative tab, and the add-on is available in English, Spanish, and Russian. Whether you want a quick skirmish or a full campaign, The Rus Against the Lizards delivers a compact, replayable war that fits neatly into any modded world.
