SquakeFabric
Movement in vanilla Minecraft is functional but predictable. You walk, you sprint, you jump, and that is largely the end of it. SquakeFabric throws that restraint out the window by importing the fast, expressive movement physics of Quake and Half-Life into the blocky sandbox. If you have ever watched a Quake speedrun and wished Minecraft felt that fluid, this is the add-on that makes it happen.
The mod is a faithful port of the original Squake concept to the Fabric loader, and it targets modern Minecraft releases, including builds for the 1.20.x and 1.21.x branches. Because it is built for Fabric, you will also need Fabric API installed alongside it. The project is lightweight, configurable, and designed to work both in singleplayer and on multiplayer servers.
What SquakeFabric Actually Changes
At its core, the add-on rewrites how the game handles acceleration, air control, and momentum. Rather than treating every jump as a fixed arc, it lets skilled players build and preserve speed through deliberate input. The result is a movement system with genuine depth and a high skill ceiling.
Bunnyhopping and Strafe Jumping
Bunnyhopping is the headline feature. By chaining jumps together and steering with your strafe keys, you can accelerate well beyond normal sprint speed. Strafe jumping rewards players who learn to angle their movement correctly, turning a simple jump into a momentum-building technique. By default, bunnyhopping is uncapped, meaning there is no artificial ceiling on how fast you can go. If that sounds too wild for your server, the config includes Fortress Forever-style soft and hard bunnyhop caps to rein things in.
Air Control and Half-Life Physics
The air and ground acceleration code is actually based on Half-Life, though the feel is close enough to Quake that fans of either franchise will recognize it immediately. Air control gives you meaningful influence over your trajectory mid-jump, which is what makes advanced strafing possible in the first place.
Trimping and Sharking
Trimping is a modified version of the Fortress Forever trimp mechanic. When you are moving fast enough, holding sneak while jumping converts a portion of your horizontal speed into vertical speed, launching you upward or onto ledges you would never reach normally. Sharking is a separate trick: hold jump while touching water and you will glide across the surface instead of sinking, letting you cross oceans at speed.
No More Fall Damage Speed Loss
One of the most welcome quality-of-life changes is the removal of speed loss from fall damage. Landing hard no longer kills your momentum. Note that this particular behavior needs to be installed server-side to function correctly in multiplayer, so server owners should plan accordingly.
How to Install SquakeFabric
Getting started is straightforward if you already run Fabric. Follow these steps:
- Install the Fabric loader for your chosen Minecraft version.
- Place Fabric API in your mods folder.
- Download SquakeFabric and drop the jar into the same mods folder.
- Launch the game and confirm the mod loads on the title screen.
- Adjust bunnyhop caps and other options in the config file if desired.
For server play, install the mod on both client and server so movement and fall damage behave consistently for everyone. If you would rather skip the manual file juggling, the foxygame.net launcher handles the whole process for you, offering one-click installation and automatic updates so SquakeFabric stays current without you touching a single config file.
Why Players Keep Coming Back
Movement mods live or die by how they feel, and this one feels excellent. The physics are tuned rather than random, the config options respect different playstyles, and the techniques reward practice. Whether you want to race across a survival world, build a parkour course, or set up a movement-focused server, the tools are all here.
If you are ready to leave vanilla plodding behind, download SquakeFabric, load it up, and start chaining jumps. Once you feel that first clean strafe jump carry you across a ravine, going back to ordinary sprinting will be genuinely difficult.
