Simply Speakers
Sound design in Minecraft has always been limited to the same handful of vanilla noises, which makes custom audio a genuine treat. Simply Speakers is an add-on that lets you upload your own MP3 and WAV files and play them through configurable speaker blocks anywhere in your world. Whether you want ambient music in a tavern build, an announcer for a PvP arena, or a fully synchronized soundtrack across a sprawling city, this mod hands you the controls.
What Simply Speakers Does
At its core, the mod introduces a Speaker block. Craft it, place it, and right-click to open an interface where you select an audio file, set its volume, define its audible range, adjust distance dropoff, and toggle looping. From that same screen you can assign a Speaker ID and control an entire linked network from one main speaker.
Proxy Speakers are the clever part. Place them anywhere you like, give them the same Speaker ID as your main unit, and playback stays synchronized across every location. That means a single track can fill a cathedral, a train station, and an outdoor plaza at exactly the same moment.
Key Features at a Glance
- Speaker block: select audio, configure playback, and manage a linked network from one main speaker.
- Proxy speakers: link multiple locations with the same Speaker ID and keep playback synchronized.
- MP3 and WAV support: upload local audio files through the speaker interface or install them manually in the world save.
- Per-speaker controls: volume, audible range, distance dropoff, and looping.
- Redstone control: power a speaker to play and cut the power to stop.
- Multiplayer synchronization: nearby players hear the same playback position while the server stays authoritative.
- Moving-body audio on 1.21.1: with Sable installed, speakers mounted on physics bodies follow their actual moving and rotating positions.
One important limitation: Simply Speakers does not stream arbitrary internet URLs. The upload interface accepts files from your local computer and transfers validated MP3 or WAV audio to the server, so everything stays under your control.
Supported Versions and Loaders
Simply Speakers for Minecraft covers a solid spread of modern setups. The current builds target Fabric 1.20.1, Forge 1.20.1, Fabric 1.21.1, NeoForge 1.21.1, and NeoForge 26.1.2. Sable integration, which enables correct spatial audio for speakers placed on physics bodies, is currently available only on the Minecraft 1.21.1 builds.
Every version requires Architectury API matching your Minecraft version and loader, plus Fabric API if you are running Fabric. If you have ever wrestled with manual mod dependency hunting, the foxygame.net launcher takes the sting out of it by bundling Simply Speakers with its matching dependencies and applying updates automatically, so your audio setup never breaks after a patch.
How to Install Simply Speakers
Standard Installation
If you want to download Simply Speakers manually, grab the build that matches your Minecraft version and loader, then drop it into your mods folder alongside Architectury API and, on Fabric, Fabric API. Launch the game once so the mod can generate its configuration, and you are ready to craft your first Speaker.
Manual Audio Installation
Prefer to skip the in-game uploader? Audio files live in the simply_speakers_audios folder inside your world save directory. To add one by hand, generate a UUID, rename your file to match it with an .mp3 or .wav extension, place it in that folder, and register it in audio_manifest.json with its UUID and original filename. This is handy for packing large soundtracks into a world before sharing it.
Optional Sable Integration
On Minecraft 1.21.1, installing Sable 2.0.5 enables correct spatial audio for speakers placed on Sable physics bodies. Audio follows moving, rotating, and scaled bodies without restarting playback, and networks can span both moving bodies and ordinary world speakers. Sable is entirely optional. Simply Speakers works normally without it; you only lose moving-body spatial compatibility. Note that Sable Companion is already bundled with Simply Speakers, and Sable's official jar includes its physics backend, so do not install those components separately.
Configuration and Support
Server owners can tune behavior through the config file. The speakerRange option sets the default range for new speakers from 1 to 512 blocks, with 64 as the default. You can also disable in-game uploads entirely, cap the maximum upload size in bytes, and enable verbose debug logging when troubleshooting.
If something misbehaves, the community Discord and the GitHub issue tracker are the fastest routes to help. Between redstone-triggered playback, synchronized proxy networks, and genuine MP3 support, Simply Speakers turns Minecraft's soundscape into something you compose yourself.
