Reset World

Most survival servers treat death as a minor inconvenience. You lose your items, you respawn, and the same familiar landscape greets you again. Reset World flips that idea on its head: when a player dies, the entire game world is deleted and regenerated from scratch with a completely different seed. Terrain, villages, structures, caves, biomes — all of it is gone, replaced by something nobody has ever explored before. It is a bold concept inspired by the well-known Fahare plugin, rebuilt and adapted for modern Paper versions.

If you run a small private server or a competitive survival community, this single change transforms every session into a genuine round. The stakes are real, the map never gets stale, and the group shares one collective fate.

What Makes Reset World Different

This is not a simple respawn tweak. The plugin manages an entirely separate game world, so your main lobby, hub, or hand-built spawn remains untouched. Nothing in your existing setup is modified unless you explicitly want it to be.

  • A completely new world on every death — nothing is copied from the previous one.
  • A different seed each reset, so terrain is always fresh.
  • No death screens and no kicks: respawning happens automatically.
  • Players wait in an empty world in spectator mode while the new one generates.
  • Hardcore hearts displayed in the game world.
  • Inventory is lost on death, while all other rules behave like a normal world.
  • Optional backup before deletion, toggled with a simple command.
  • Fully configurable: difficulty, gamerules, wait time, and which players trigger the reset.

The whole cycle takes roughly two to six seconds, depending on world size and whether backups are enabled. From the player's perspective, it feels almost seamless — a brief moment of floating in an empty void, then a brand new horizon.

Supported Versions and Requirements

Paper 26.2 and Java 25

Reset World for Minecraft targets Paper 26.2 or higher within the same release line, and it requires Java 25. There are no external dependencies, which keeps installation clean and predictable. If your server runs a recent Paper build, you are good to go.

How to Install

Getting started is straightforward. Download the .jar file from the project page, drop it into your server's plugins folder, and restart the server. On the first startup, both the game world and the waiting world are created automatically. Players joining the main world are redirected to the game world without any extra configuration.

One important note: the plugin manages its own dimension inside world/dimensions/resetworld/. If you already have a hand-built world you care about, enable backups first with /resetworld backup on, or make a manual copy of the world folder. The first reset is irreversible.

For server owners who prefer a smoother setup, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install path for Reset World, keeping the add-on catalog organized and handling version compatibility checks automatically so you always match your server build.

How the Reset Cycle Works

When a player dies, the usual respawn button is replaced by a loading title. Everyone online is moved to the empty waiting world in spectator mode, and the player who died respawns on their own without clicking anything. The game world, along with the Nether and the End if configured, is unloaded and deleted. A new world generates with a fresh seed, and everyone returns with clean health and inventory.

Commands and Permissions

  • /resetworld reset — forces a world reset.
  • /resetworld backup on — enables backups.
  • /resetworld backup off — disables backups.
  • /resetworld backup — shows backup status.
  • /resetworld estado — shows the current world and reset count.

The resetworld.admin permission is granted to operators by default, so your staff can manage everything out of the box.

Backups and Configuration

With backups enabled, a full copy is saved before each deletion in a timestamped folder. To restore a previous round, copy that folder back to its original location with the server turned off. The config.yml file is generated automatically and exposes options such as reset-on-death, trigger-players, reset-nether-and-end, spectator-seconds, and hardcore settings including difficulty and gamerules.

Final Thoughts

Reset World is a niche plugin, but for the right server it is transformative. It rewards caution, punishes recklessness, and guarantees that no two rounds ever feel the same. Enable backups, test a round with /kill, and see whether your community is ready for a world that dies with them.
