Radio Craft
Silence is one of the few things Minecraft has never really solved. You can build a cathedral, a nightclub or a roadside diner, but the moment you step inside, the only soundtrack is cave ambience and the occasional zombie. Radio Craft fixes that in a way that feels almost too ambitious for an add-on: it pipes real internet radio stations, local audio files and programmable cassettes straight into your world, and on the newest build it goes much further than that.
This mod is not a simple jukebox replacement. It is a full audio system with radios, tapes, wiring, portable players and even staged concerts, and it is one of the few Minecraft mods where the feature list genuinely changes how you build.
What Radio Craft Actually Does
The core of the mod is the Radio block. Point it at a direct MP3 stream, a .pls or .m3u playlist, or a local audio file, and it plays. You can adjust volume, hearing range and repeat behaviour through the Radio Editor, then choose how the radio activates: right-click, redstone signal, or always on. The Tuner and Trap Circuit let you cycle activation modes and read a redstone output while a station is playing or a player is in range, which is exactly as useful for hidden traps as it sounds.
Server owners can define station presets in the config file, so everyone on the server gets the same curated list of channels without typing URLs by hand.
Cassettes and the Cassette Maker
Cassettes turn radio into something you can trade, store and collect. At the Cassette Maker you program a tape with a label and a stream URL or file, then load it into any radio. The radio plays the tape until you eject it. Break a radio or a Cassette Maker and the tape inside drops as an item, so nothing is lost.
If you are putting together a survival world with friends, this is where the mod quietly becomes a social feature. People start making mixtapes for each other.
Version Support: NeoForge 1.21.1, Forge 1.20.1 and 1.16.5
Radio Craft for Minecraft is available across three very different builds, and they are not identical.
- NeoForge 1.21.1 (Java 21, NeoForge 21.1+) — the complete experience, including speakers, cable, sync, boombox, concerts, microphone support and the newer interface.
- Forge 1.20.1 (Forge 47+, Java 17) — radio, editor, tuner, trap circuit, cassettes, cassette maker, in-game manual, server presets and local MP3/WAV upload.
- Forge 1.16.5 (Forge 36.x, Java 8) — the same feature set as 1.20.1.
The 1.21.1 build is the one to pick if you want the hi-fi setup. Speakers connect through Speaker Cable, up to eight per radio, each assigned to Left, Right or Both for genuine stereo. A Radio Sync Link mirrors one stream across several radios in perfect time. Local files can be OGG and FLAC there too, not just MP3 and WAV.
Boombox and Concerts
The Boombox is a portable radio that plays while held, and for you it keeps playing from anywhere in your inventory. Other players hear it louder the closer they get, and it sits beside your head when carried. The Stage Console takes things to festival scale: a setlist of URLs or uploaded files, any number of linked radios and speakers locked to the same second of the same track, latecomers joining at the correct spot, pre-downloaded tracks for nearby players, master volume, start timer, repeat, a crew list, and redstone output that follows loudness or beat for lighting rigs. Live voice through a bound Microphone requires the optional Simple Voice Chat mod.
If you would rather skip the manual setup entirely, the foxygame.net launcher handles Radio Craft as a one-click install from its add-on catalog, matching the right build to your game version automatically so you never have to juggle NeoForge and Forge files by hand.
How to Install Radio Craft
Before you download Radio Craft, confirm two things: your Minecraft version and your mod loader. The 1.21.1 build needs NeoForge 21.1 or newer and Java 21. The 1.20.1 build needs Forge 47 or newer and Java 17. The 1.16.5 build runs on Forge 36.x with Java 8.
- Install the correct loader for your version.
- Place the Radio Craft jar in your mods folder.
- Launch the game once so the config files generate.
- Add station presets in the stations.json config if you run a server.
- Craft the in-game manual for a full reference, available in English and Polish.
One practical note: the local file browser needs a display, so some launchers require the headless flag to be disabled. Also remember that sound plays client-side while the server stores settings, and on a server, uploaded files live there so every player hears them.
Final Thoughts
Radio Craft is one of those mods that starts as a novelty and ends up shaping your builds. A radio in a workshop is charming. A wired stereo system, a boombox in your inventory and a stage running timed shows for a server full of players is something else entirely. Pick your version, install it properly, and give your world a soundtrack.
