Productive Frogs
Resource farming in Minecraft has always meant one of two things: strip mining until your pickaxe begs for mercy, or building an industrial monstrosity that eats half your base. Productive Frogs offers a third path. This add-on turns the humble frog into a renewable production machine, letting you farm iron, copper, diamonds, and a long list of other resources by feeding primed slimes to frogs and harvesting what they drop. It is clever, compact, and surprisingly deep once you start digging into its systems.
What Is Productive Frogs?
At its core, Productive Frogs is a renewable resource mod built around a simple loop. You find a slime, right-click it with the resource you want, and then feed that slime to a matching frog. The frog drops a Froglight tied to that resource. Smelt the Froglight in a vanilla furnace, and you get your resource back. That is the entire concept, and it works with iron ingots, copper ingots, diamonds, prismarine shards, ender pearls, and plenty more.
The beauty is in how much the add-on builds on top of that foundation. What starts as a manual loop quickly becomes a fully automated production line if you want it to.
Going Hands-Off with Slime Milkers
Running around priming wild slimes gets old fast. The Slime Milker solves that. Drop a Slime Bucket of the variant you want into the input slot, wait a short cook, and out comes a bucket of matching Slime Milk. Place that milk in the world and it spawns more of the same slime nearby. No power, no pipes required, and hoppers can feed and drain the whole thing.
You can push it further by tossing catalysts into a placed Slime Milk source. These catalysts increase spawn counts, speed up spawning, boost slimes per spawn, or even create a source that never runs dry. Every variant's milk is its own liquid, so fluid pipes and tanks can pump it, carry it, and place it back as the same slime. If you want a fully automated milk line, the tools are all here.
Melting and Casting Froglights
Every Froglight melts back down in a Froglight Crucible. Park it over a heat source, and a torch works fine on day one, though lava and fire melt faster. Water and Lava Froglights melt into real, bucketable water and lava, which means renewable lava on a skyblock without a single nether trip. Metal Froglights melt into molten metal worth two ingots each. Stack a Casting Mold on top and it casts the molten straight back into ingots, giving you a three-block smelting tower with no power and no pipes.
Some Froglights are heat sources themselves. A Lava Froglight burns like lava, and a Blaze Froglight runs hotter than fire. The Crucible will even render cobblestone and stone straight down to lava.
Breeding Better Frogs
Your frogs are not interchangeable. Each one has stats that decide how much it eats, how much it drops, and how far it reaches. You improve them through breeding. Pair two frogs on a treat, and the offspring blends its parents' traits and can climb a notch higher. This lets you ladder a line toward the stat cap and merge two specialists into one well-rounded producer. A breed never comes out worse than its parents, and packs that just want the plain loop can switch breeding off entirely.
Automating the Whole Loop
The Terrarium is where Productive Frogs reaches its endgame. This sealed multiblock habitat runs the loop on its own. Pipe Slime Milk into the controller, ceiling sprinklers rain slimes into the cavity, frogs raised inside eat them, and Froglights collect in an output hatch for piping out. Bred stats carry through, so your best frogs keep producing at peak efficiency. If you would rather keep things simple, a frog perch (a sweetslimed lily pad) pins a single frog over a collection point.
For players who want the full experience without the setup grind, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install of Productive Frogs alongside its curated add-on catalog, handling version matching automatically so you can jump straight into farming.
The Endgame Tier
There is a tier past the everyday loop. Splash a potion onto a slime before a frog eats it, and the Froglight keeps that effect, ready to place as a glowing aura, hold for yourself, or wear. Breed predator frogs that hunt real mobs for their real drops, cross them into Apex Frogs, and install those on boss altars. The Wither, the Ender Dragon, the Warden, and the Elder Guardian each get a buildable arena that summons and harvests them for raw boss drops and bottled experience, no fight required.
The Froglight Cleaver is a sword that drops a slime's Froglight on the kill. The Ender Dragon's altar pays a Princess's Kiss that turns a frog into a tradeable villager. Any frog also drops Frog Legs, a renewable meat source for worlds short on animals.
Version Support and Installation
Productive Frogs is built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge 21.1.230. It is NeoForge-only by design, and there is no Fabric port planned. Java 21 is required. If you are wondering how to install it, the process is straightforward: make sure you have the correct NeoForge version for 1.21.1, drop the mod jar into your mods folder, and launch the game.
The add-on is data-driven and extensible. Adding a new resource is a single JSON file, no code and no recompile needed. JEI Information pages auto-extend to teach new entries. Cross-mod resources for Mekanism, Create, Applied Energistics 2, AllTheOres, Mystical Agriculture, Powah, Industrial Foregoing, Refined Storage, and more come included, each gated behind a soft mod-loaded check that silently skips when the source mod is absent. The same jar is safe in any pack.
Recommended Companion Mods
- JEI: Information pages on every Productive Frogs item explain production roles and smelting chains. Hover an item and press U or R.
- Jade: Shows the species and variant in the in-world tooltip.
- Patchouli: Adds the in-game guide book, crafted from a book plus a slime ball, with illustrated walkthroughs and build diagrams.
All three are optional. The mod works fine without them, though you lose the contextual UI and the in-game guide.
Final Thoughts
Productive Frogs is mature, stable, and constantly expanding. New resources, cross-mod support, and polish land as they are ready, with no fixed version gates, and updates keep both new and existing worlds working. If you want a renewable resource farm that is compact, clever, and genuinely fun to build, this add-on deserves a spot in your pack. Download Productive Frogs for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge and start priming those slimes.
