Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments

Ever lost an enchanted sword in a pile of junk, or watched your best pickaxe sit unnoticed in a chest corner? Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments solves that problem with a crisp, customizable outline around the items you actually care about. Whether your gear is in your hand, lying on the ground, mounted in an item frame, or held by another player or mob, it stands out at a glance. The name is a direct nod to Actions & Stuff on Bedrock Edition, and the signature outline style it brings to Java is reproduced here faithfully.

What This Mod Does

At its core, Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments draws a clean border around enchanted items by default, covering both vanilla and modded enchantments. You can add any held item to a whitelist in one click, or leave something alone with the blacklist. Everything works in a heavily modded environment too, because custom renderers are captured at their call site rather than by class name. That means mods the outline has never seen before are still covered without any special support.

Two Outline Styles

  • Outline N' Stuff is the default: a geometric border that hugs the item's real shape. It is part of the item itself, so it sticks perfectly in first person, follows animation mods, and costs almost nothing. It works on flat items, 3D models, and custom-rendered items such as tridents and shields.
  • Ring is the screen-space alternative: constant thickness in pixels, with a glow halo, blur, corner mode and distance fade. It captures a silhouette and runs post-processing passes every frame, so it costs more. On modest hardware it can eat into your FPS, but a master switch disables it entirely and gives the whole budget back.

Make It Yours

A single width slider drives the thickness of both styles, so switching between them keeps the same look. Intensity takes the outline from a subtle edge to a bold, saturated line. A color picker with live preview lets you choose any shade directly in-game. Chameleon mode derives the outline color from the item's dominant texture color, giving each item its own matching glow, modded textures included. Rarity mode instead colors outlines by item value through a six-tier system, from Common up to Mythic, and it reads modded gear automatically. A searchable per-item editor lets you override any tier, with filtering by mod.

Smart Targeting and Feedback

Hit feedback is a small but brilliant touch. When one of your projectiles lands on an entity, your weapon's outline flashes green for a second and plays the arrow "ding" many resource packs provide. It reads who caused the damage rather than which weapon fired, so any modded bow, crossbow or ranged weapon works. A durability warning pulses the outline red once your held item drops into its last fifth of durability, which beats squinting at a three-pixel bar mid-fight. Enchant runes float and cling to the actual shape of your item, following swings, bobbing and camera moves, and they can be turned off on their own. Proper occlusion keeps outlines from showing through walls, entity bodies, your own body in third person, or your hand in first person.

Supported Versions and Loaders

Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and ships as one single jar for both NeoForge 21.1 or newer and Fabric with Fabric API. It is client-side only, with no shared state with servers and no protocol changes, so it is safe on any server and there is nothing to install server-side. If you want the simplest possible setup, the foxygame.net launcher can drop Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments straight into your mod list with one click, handling loader and version matching automatically. Shader pack fans are covered as well: both styles are drawn outside the shader pack's own passes, so shadows, color grading, bloom and water stay untouched, with no flicker, no Z-fighting and no broken effects.

Performance Notes

The Outline N' Stuff style is pure geometry: no framebuffer, no post-processing, negligible cost. The Ring style runs a screen-space pipeline rebuilt from the ground up, roughly four times cheaper on the render thread than the first releases for pixel-identical output. Occlusion checks are cached, so crowded scenes stay cheap, and three switches let you trim further: disable the Ring style, skip item frames, or skip items held by entities and lying on the ground.

How to Install

  • Install NeoForge 21.1 or newer, or Fabric with Fabric API, for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  • Place the single mod jar into your mods folder.
  • Launch the game and press U, which is rebindable, to open the tabbed config panel.
  • Tune your settings live while your weapon stays visible on screen.

Compatibility and FAQ

The mod is designed to be a good citizen in any modpack. It explicitly supports Iris, Sodium, ImmediatelyFast, Punchy, Hold My Items, Inventory Particles, Gnetum, Accessories, Apotheosis, GeckoLib and AzureLib, and it has been confirmed alongside Mekanism, Create, Ars Nouveau, Twilight Forest, Farmer's Delight and many more. A few items whose renderers the geometric border cannot trace faithfully fall back to the Ring style automatically, and every compatibility entry is per item rather than per mod, so the rest of each mod keeps the geometric border. Pack authors can assign rarity tiers with item tags.

There is one known limitation: Draconic Evolution draws its tools straight to the GPU with its own shaders, outside any path an outline can intercept, so those items are not outlined. If something looks wrong, open the panel with the item in hand, blacklist it, and report it so a proper compatibility entry can land in the next release. A Forge version is not planned, since Iris has never supported Forge and its port has not moved past 1.20.1. Support for more Minecraft versions is on the roadmap, but the priority is polishing the current build first.

If you have ever wished your enchanted gear would announce itself, this is the mod for you. Download Outline N' Stuff - Enchantments, spend five minutes in the config panel, and never lose track of your loot again.
