No Golems

Few things disrupt a carefully managed Minecraft world like a stray iron golem wandering into your redstone contraptions, or a player-built wither deciding your storage room looks like a nice target. No Golems is a lightweight utility mod that gives server owners and pack makers direct control over which artificial mob creations are allowed, without touching natural spawning or command-based summons.

What No Golems Actually Does

The mod disables the artificial creation of three specific mobs: iron golems, snow golems, and withers. When a player tries to build one of the classic summoning structures, the game simply refuses to spawn the mob. That means no carved pumpkins on iron or snow blocks, and no wither skulls arranged on soul sand.

This is a targeted restriction, not a blanket mob ban. Natural spawns still function normally, and any mob summoned through the /summon command appears exactly as it always would. If you want a wither for a boss fight, an operator can still spawn one. The mod only removes the structure-based shortcut that regular players rely on.

Why Servers Use It

  • Prevent griefers from building withers inside protected bases or near spawn.
  • Stop iron golem farms from lagging a survival server with hundreds of entities.
  • Keep snow golem trails from cluttering builds and snow biomes.
  • Reduce entity counts on low-end hardware without banning mobs entirely.
  • Give staff a configurable middle ground between full freedom and strict rules.

Config Options and Loader Support

Every one of the three mobs can be re-enabled independently through the server config. If your community only wants to block withers but keep iron golem farms legal, that is a single toggle away. The config lives server-side, so players do not need matching settings on their clients.

No Golems is built as a Forge mod for versions up through 1.20.1, and as a NeoForge mod from 1.21.1 onward. The author does not support Fabric or any other loader, and there are no plans to backport to older Minecraft releases. Newer versions will be ported as time allows, so check the project page for the current build before you download No Golems for your server.

One Important Compatibility Note

Any other mod that relies on those summoning structures will break. If a modded mob or machine expects to detect a pumpkin-topped block arrangement, that detection will fail once the spawn is blocked. Test your modpack before pushing it to a live server.

If you would rather skip manual file juggling, the foxygame.net launcher handles the whole process in a couple of clicks, pulling No Golems straight from its add-on catalog and keeping it updated as new Minecraft versions drop.

How to Install No Golems for Minecraft

Getting the mod running takes only a few minutes. The steps differ slightly depending on whether you are setting up a client or a dedicated server.

Client Installation

  • Install the correct loader for your Minecraft version: Forge for 1.20.1 and earlier, NeoForge for 1.21.1 and later.
  • Run the loader once so the mods folder is generated in your game directory.
  • Place the No Golems jar file into the mods folder.
  • Launch the game and confirm the mod appears in the mod list.

Server Installation

  • Stop the server completely before changing anything.
  • Drop the jar into the server mods folder alongside your loader installation.
  • Start the server once to generate the config file.
  • Open the config and disable or enable iron golems, snow golems, and withers as needed.
  • Restart the server so the new settings take effect.

The config step is where most of the value lives. Leaving all three mobs blocked by default suits public servers, while private worlds often re-enable iron golems for villager trading setups.

Modpack Permissions and Final Thoughts

The author allows No Golems in modpacks freely, with one condition: the pack cannot require payment to play. Monetized access walls are off the table, but free public packs are welcome. Support and update news are handled through the project Discord.

No Golems is a small mod with a narrow job, and it does that job well. If your server struggles with wither griefing, entity lag from golem farms, or players bypassing build rules, this is a clean server-side fix. Grab the right build for your loader, adjust the config to match your community, and keep the mobs you want while blocking the ones you do not.
