Music Disc Maker
Minecraft's jukebox has always felt limited. You get a handful of C418 tracks and Pigstep, and that's it. There's no way to play your own music, your favorite YouTube song, or that obscure Bandcamp gem you love. The Music Disc Maker add-on changes all of that. It lets you paste a track link, insert a blank disc, and get a custom music disc that plays in a vanilla jukebox. No more settling for the same five songs at your base.
What Exactly Does Music Disc Maker Do?
At its core, this add-on adds a new crafting block to your world. You open it, paste a URL from YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, or a direct stream link, and then drop in a blank disc. The block does its magic and outputs a Custom Music Disc. Pop that disc into any vanilla jukebox, and it streams the track with the familiar "Now Playing" overlay and full positional audio. It feels completely native to the game.
Supported Sources and Smart Link Handling
You aren't limited to one platform. The block accepts links from YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and direct audio streams. Spotify links are resolved by song and artist, so you get the actual track instead of a video title. The disc even shows the track's cover art in its tooltip and in the maker's preview. You'll also see the title, artist, and length right there. Want to rename it? Use an anvil to change the disc's name to whatever you like.
Multiplayer That Just Works
One of the biggest headaches with custom audio mods is multiplayer sync. Music Disc Maker handles it gracefully. On a multiplayer server, everyone hears the disc, including players who walk up mid-song. The track is synced to the current position, so there's no awkward restarting or desync. If a link can't be used, the maker tells you why. It distinguishes between geo-blocked, age-locked, offline, or unsupported links instead of giving you a generic failure. If a disc fails while playing, the reason stays in chat and in the log, so you know exactly what went wrong.
The Golden Jukebox Upgrade
Vanilla jukeboxes are basic. The add-on introduces a Golden Jukebox, crafted by surrounding a vanilla jukebox with gold ingots. This upgraded block adds a full set of playback controls. You can set the audible range from 16 to 256 blocks, whereas a vanilla jukebox reaches about 64. Volume can be adjusted from 0 to 200 percent. You can toggle directional audio on or off. Turning it off plays the track at a flat volume anywhere inside the range, like background music. There's also a repeat toggle and a seek bar to scrub through the track. You can play or stop from the screen. Range and volume changes apply instantly to the track that is already playing.
Radio Discs for Endless Listening
What if you want something that never ends? Paste an internet radio stream from Icecast or SHOUTcast, or a YouTube live URL, and you get a Radio Disc. It shows LIVE instead of a length and reconnects on its own if the stream drops. Note that Twitch is not supported.
How to Use Music Disc Maker
Getting started is simple. Craft a Blank Disc using lapis lazuli and iron. Then craft the Music Disc Maker block. Both recipes show up in the recipe book, so you don't have to guess. Open the block, paste a track URL, and insert the Blank Disc. A Custom Music Disc appears in the output. Put the disc in a vanilla jukebox, or a Golden Jukebox if you want range, volume, and repeat control.
If you're looking to streamline your mod setup, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install for Music Disc Maker, so you can skip the manual mod folder hassle and get straight to crafting your custom discs. The launcher's add-on catalog keeps track of the latest versions and dependencies, making it a breeze to manage your whole modpack.
Compatibility with Other Mods
Music Disc Maker plays nicely with several popular mods. With Additional Additions, you can drop custom discs into an album and they play their real audio. Sophisticated Backpacks lets custom discs play from a backpack's jukebox upgrade, and Traveler's Backpack does the same from its jukebox upgrade slot on NeoForge for version 1.21.11. For Create players, a Golden Jukebox assembled onto a moving contraption keeps playing and follows it on version 1.21.1 and Forge on 1.20.1. Create Aeronautics physics airships are also supported on 1.21.1. With Valkyrien Skies 2, Eureka!, and Clockwork on 1.20.1, the music follows the ship instead of staying at the ship's origin.
Important Notes on Streaming
Audio is streamed from the source each time it plays. It isn't stored inside the disc, so it needs an internet connection. Some tracks may be region-locked or unavailable. Not all sources are equally reliable. Direct audio-file links, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp don't do bot checks. YouTube and Spotify, which resolves through a YouTube search, can occasionally hit a login or bot-check wall on some server IPs. This is most common on hosted or rented servers. The maker tells you when that happens; a direct link or one of the other sources is the fix.
Installation and Version Support
No other mods are required for the core functionality. The server and every client must run the same version of this mod. From version 2.2.0 onward, NeoForge and Forge reject a mismatch when you connect. Fabric has no version handshake, so a mismatch there is not caught and will misbehave instead. Update both sides together. To find out how to install, check the mod page for your specific loader and Minecraft version, whether you're on Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric. The mod is free to put in any modpack, on any platform, monetised or not, with no permission needed and no credit required.
For players juggling multiple versions, the foxygame.net launcher simplifies things by handling version compatibility checks for Music Disc Maker across your installed loaders, so you always boot into a working setup. It also offers auto-updates for the add-on, ensuring you never miss a bug fix or a new feature.
Music Disc Maker turns your jukebox into a personal radio station. It's a must-have for builders who want atmosphere, for server admins who want shared soundtracks, and for anyone tired of the same old discs. Give it a try, and your world will never sound the same again.
