Multi Together

Some Minecraft challenges are fun because they are hard. Others are fun because they are ridiculous. Multi Together belongs firmly in the second category. This Paper plugin physically chains players together with a visible, sagging, clanking chain, then lets you share health, hunger and inventory across the whole group. It is built for videos, streams and any challenge where "you move, I move" sounds like a good time.

What Multi Together Actually Does

At its core, the plugin links two or more players and forces them to survive as one unit. You choose which systems to share, and the chain does the rest.

  • Chain: A real chain made of display entities runs between players. It sags, drags on the ground and pulls tight when stretched. You cannot get farther apart than its length, so a runner literally drags their partner along.
  • Health: One health bar for everyone. Hit one player and the whole group flinches. One dies and everyone dies, with a message like "Bob died together with Alice."
  • Food: Shared hunger and saturation. One player eats and everyone is fed. One player sprints and everyone gets hungry.
  • Inventory: One shared inventory, armor and offhand included. The same item list is handed to every player, so nothing is duplicated. Your selected hotbar slot stays personal.

You can link everything at once or mix and match. Want only the chain? Fine. Only health and hunger? Also fine. Health, hunger and inventory are shared across the entire group, so A—B plus B—C means one health bar for all three. The chain itself is pairwise, which means A—B—C is two chains, and the player in the middle holds both.

Supported Versions and Loader

Multi Together is a Paper plugin, and one jar covers every supported version. That range runs from Paper 1.20 all the way through 1.20.1, 1.20.2 – 1.20.4, 1.20.5 – 1.21.8, 1.21.9 – 1.21.11 and 26.1 – 26.3. Paper forks such as Purpur should work as well, though they were not officially tested. There are no dependencies, and LiteCommands is relocated inside the jar so it will not clash with other plugins using the same library.

If you want the smoothest possible setup, the foxygame.net launcher can handle the whole process for you: search for Multi Together in its add-on catalog, hit install, and the correct jar lands in your server's plugins folder without any manual file shuffling.

How to Install Multi Together for Minecraft

Installation is refreshingly simple compared to most server plugins.

  • Download Multi Together from the releases page, or build it yourself from source.
  • Drop the jar into the plugins folder of your Paper server.
  • Restart the server. No dependencies are required.
  • Get two or more players online and run /link Player1 Player2.

That is it. Links live in memory until the server stops, and the only file the plugin creates is config.yml, which stores the language setting. Every command requires the multitogether.admin permission, which operators have by default.

Commands Worth Knowing

The command set is small but covers everything you need. /link opens a menu, /link all chains everyone online alphabetically, /link list shows every link and the chain length, and /link length sets the chain from 1.5 to 32 blocks. The default is 5. You also get /unlink variants for breaking pairs, single players or everything at once. Types can be combined with commas, so HP,FOOD works, and Russian type names like цепь or здоровье are accepted too. Tab completion suggests players, types and language codes, and aliases exist for Russian keyboard layouts.

Menus and Languages

Running /link opens a 54-slot chest menu that refreshes every second, so players who join or leave appear immediately. Player heads show who is linked with whom, and the number on each head marks the position in the chain. Type toggles, a select-all button and a nether star for "everything at once" make setup fast. The chain settings menu lets you adjust length, stiffness, chain style (iron or all four copper oxidation stages), visibility, sneak bracing, respawn and teleport behavior, and chain sounds.

Multi Together ships with 18 bundled languages, including English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Dutch, Czech, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Indonesian. Everything is translated: chat messages, menus, command help, usage errors and death messages. You can switch languages through config.yml, the /link language command or the settings menu, and the choice saves automatically.

Why It Works So Well for Challenges

The chain physics are what sell the experience. It is a length constraint rather than a spring, so a sagging chain touches nobody until it goes taut. Once tight, both players get an impulse toward each other every tick, split by a rough mass value. A player standing on the ground is heavier than one in the air, and a sneaking player braces so they are pulled several times weaker, which is exactly how you hold a partner dangling over a cliff. When the chain catches a falling player, fall distance resets, so there is no fall damage. A player hanging on the chain is never kicked for flying, even with allow-flight disabled.

The visuals hold up too. Every link is a chain block display rotated and stretched along its segment, smoothed with teleport duration and interpolation, so the chain glides even though it updates once per tick. The sag follows a parabola, and links rest on top of blocks instead of climbing through tree trunks or walls. Copper chains clank when jerked tight.

Final Thoughts

Multi Together turns ordinary survival into a cooperative comedy of errors. Whether you want a full shared-inventory nightmare run or just a health-and-hunger challenge with friends, the plugin gives you the tools, the menus and the languages to set it up in minutes. Grab the jar, run /link, and see how long your group lasts before someone walks off a ledge.
