Mining Dimensions [FABRIC] — Your Gateway to Six New Resource Worlds
Vanilla Minecraft offers a single Overworld, the Nether, and the End, but sometimes you need more space to gather resources without fighting the same old terrain. The Mining Dimensions mod for Fabric expands your horizons with five (or six, depending on your version) unique dimensions, each tailored for a specific type of resource gathering or exploration. Whether you want a peaceful quarry, a challenging combat arena, or a safe cave network, this mod delivers a set of pocket realms that feel like natural extensions of the game.
The Six Dimensions at a Glance
Every dimension in this mod serves a distinct purpose. The biomes, lighting, mob spawns, and ore distributions are carefully tuned to match the intended playstyle. Here is what you can expect when you step through a portal.
Mining Dim
A classic flatland world with desert and plains biomes, always locked at high noon. It mirrors the Overworld’s ore generation and structure placement, so you can strip mine without worrying about nightfall or rain. Perfect for massive quarry projects or setting up a peaceful secondary base.
Climbing Dim
This dimension combines badlands and windswept hills, again with permanent daylight. The rugged terrain makes it ideal for surface-level mining and scenic builds. Ores and structures remain vanilla, so you can find exposed coal, iron, and even emeralds on cliff faces.
Hunting Dim
Step into an endless plains biome shrouded in permanent darkness. The real danger here is the mobs — every creature spawns with boosted health, armor, and damage. Expect heavily armored zombies, skeletons with punch bows, and creepers that will end your run in seconds. Only vanilla ores generate, but the real reward is the thrill of survival and the chance to smelt down dropped netherite gear into netherite scrap.
Caving Dim
A safe haven carved entirely from mushroom island cave systems. The unique biome prevents hostile mob spawns, so only bats and the occasional spider from mineshaft spawners appear. All Overworld ores generate here, making it the ultimate stress-free mining dimension. Bring torches for visibility, but leave your sword at home.
Nethering Dim
When modded Nether biomes clutter your main dimension, this vanilla-only Nether copy saves the day. It generates only classic Nether terrain — netherrack, soul sand, fortresses, and bastions — giving you a clean slate to hunt for ancient debris, blaze rods, and wither skeleton skulls. Note that some Better Nether structures may leak in, but the biome remains pure vanilla.
Sky Dim (1.21+)
A void dimension bathed in daylight, with nothing but empty air beneath your feet. The mod automatically places an oak plank under you when you arrive, so you can build a floating platform or bridge to nowhere. It is a blank canvas for skyblock-style challenges or creative builds without terrain interference.
Travel Methods: Portals, Teleporters, and Pads
The mod offers several ways to hop between dimensions, and the method you choose depends on your Minecraft version and playstyle preference. Getting the mod into your game is straightforward, and if you use a flexible launcher like foxygame.net, you can install Mining Dimensions directly from the mod menu — no manual file hunting required. Once it is loaded, you can start building your dimensional network.
Traditional Standing Portals (pre-1.21)
For versions before 1.21, you construct a portal frame using colored portal blocks — each color corresponds to a specific dimension. Once the frame is complete, light it with the Portal Lighter, a diamond-and-steel tool crafted similarly to flint and steel. The portal behaves like a Nether portal, linking you to the chosen realm.
Portable Teleporters
Six handheld devices, one for each dimension, allow instant two-way travel between the Overworld and the target dimension. Right-click to teleport in, right-click again to return. The Sky Dim teleporter even spawns a temporary oak plank to prevent a fatal fall. These teleporters are perfect for quick resource runs without building permanent structures.
Portal Block Method (1.21+)
In newer versions, you can simply place a single Portal Block and right-click it to travel. The mod scans a 3x3 chunk area (48x48 blocks) in the destination dimension for an existing Portal Block. If one is found, you appear on top of it; if not, a new block is placed under you. For better control, enable chunk borders (F3+G) to center your portal within a chunk. A config option can expand the search radius to 5x5 chunks for even more flexibility.
Teleport Pad Method (1.21+)
For precise, one-way teleportation from any location to any other, use Teleport Pads and the Spatial Capture Tool. Right-click a destination with the tool to store its coordinates and dimension, then right-click a Teleport Pad to transfer that data. Once set, simply right-click the pad to travel. This system works across all dimensions and even within the same dimension, making it a powerful logistics tool for large server networks.
Extra Utilities and Smart Crafting
Beyond raw exploration, the mod includes several quality-of-life features that tie the dimensions together.
- Netherite Scrap Smelting: You can smelt netherite gear into netherite scrap, which pairs perfectly with the Hunting Dim. Farm armored mobs, collect their dropped equipment, and recycle it into valuable scrap for upgrading your own tools.
- Returning Enchantment: Apply the Returning enchantment to a Portable Teleporter, then sneak and right-click to instantly warp back to the last bed you slept in. You must have slept in a bed at least once for this to work. It is a lifesaver when you are deep in a dangerous dimension and need a quick escape.
- Gobber Mod Compatibility: If you already use the Gobber mod for Fabric (version 1.16.5), you may not need Mining Dimensions separately, as those dimensions are included in Gobber. For everyone else, this mod stands on its own as a lightweight dimension pack.
Why Mining Dimensions Deserves a Spot in Your Modpack
Mining Dimensions solves a common problem: resource scarcity without breaking the vanilla feel. Each dimension feels like a natural extension of Minecraft’s world generation, but with smart twists that make gathering, building, and combat more enjoyable. The multiple travel methods give you full control over how you integrate the dimensions into your gameplay — whether you prefer immersive portal rooms, handheld teleporters, or precise coordinate-based pads. The Hunting Dim alone adds a high-risk, high-reward loop that can keep even veteran players on their toes, while the Caving Dim offers a peaceful retreat for builders and miners alike. With the addition of the Sky Dim in 1.21+, the mod even caters to skyblock enthusiasts. If you are looking to expand your world without overwhelming your server with dozens of biome mods, Mining Dimensions is a focused, polished choice that fits neatly into any Fabric setup.
