TownCraft: From Caves to Skyscrapers in Minecraft

TownCraft: The Ultimate Minecraft Modpack for Town Building and Survival

If you have ever dreamed of building a thriving settlement from scratch in Minecraft, then TownCraft is the modpack that turns that fantasy into a fully realized experience. Designed with survival multiplayer in mind, TownCraft blends colony management, industrial progression, and deep exploration across multiple versions of the game. You start in a devastated world, claw your way to the surface, and then use an array of powerful mods to construct towns, cities, and even interconnected transportation networks. Whether you prefer the stability of 1.12.2 or the newer features of 1.16.5 and beyond, this pack offers a unique journey that rewards creativity and strategy.

The Lore Behind the Devastation

Long ago, a catastrophic alchemical event scorched the overworld, stripping all ores above the bedrock layer. Survivors retreated deep underground, surviving on mushrooms and whatever scraps they could find. Generations later, scientists have confirmed that the surface is habitable once more. You are one of the brave few who decides to dig upward, driven by tales of sunlight and flowers. The climb is perilous—others have vanished—but your determination is unwavering. When you finally breach the bedrock, a teleportation mechanic propels you to the top of the world, ready to rebuild civilization.

Core Gameplay: From Caverns to Metropolis

Your journey begins in the caverns. Digging to the surface is your first challenge, but the real adventure starts once you emerge. TownCraft layers several massive mods to create a progression that feels organic and satisfying:

• Minecolonies: Start with a colony ship or wagon and let your villagers construct an entire town from the ground up. They gather resources, build structures, and defend the settlement.
• Dooglamoo Cities: Once your colony is stable, you can found a large industrial city. Lay out roads, plan bridges, and watch builders erect skyscrapers that drive an economy based on resource production and trade.
• Vehicles and Transportation: Craft cars, trucks, and SUVs to cruise your custom-built roads. Construct airports and fly realistic planes to other towns, or link settlements with freeways using blueprint tools. Trains, planes, and automobiles are all fully functional.
• Defense and Danger: As your colony grows, raiders become a constant threat. The larger your town, the more bandits attack, turning the game into a tower defense scenario. Hot and cold biomes are more dangerous, and hostile NPCs spawn further from worldspawn, so choose your starting location wisely.

Decorative Freedom and Industrial Might

No town is complete without personality. TownCraft includes a wealth of decorative mods like Ceramics, Chisel, Chisels & Bits, Forestry woods, MrCrayfish’s Furniture, and Xtones. You can add intricate details to every building, making each structure unique. When you are ready to advance to the industrial age, mods like Immersive Engineering, Mekanism, and Tech Reborn provide the machinery needed to automate production and power your growing empire. The pack even integrates planes and trains from Immersive Railroading and Minecraft Transport Simulator, letting you build a fully connected world.

RAM Requirements and Smooth Performance

To enjoy TownCraft without freezing or lag, you must allocate enough memory. For the 1.12.2 version, set your launcher to use at least 7 GB of RAM, but 10 GB is recommended for the best experience. For 1.16.5 and newer versions, you will need 9–10 GB. In most launchers, you can adjust this by navigating to the profile settings and disabling system memory defaults, then dragging the slider. If you are looking for a hassle-free way to get started, the foxygame.net launcher handles this elegantly—it’s a modern, flexible tool that lets you download mods directly from its menu and fine-tune RAM allocation in a few clicks, making the whole setup process feel effortless.

Setting Up a Server

Playing with friends elevates TownCraft to its full potential. The official server is already listed in the multiplayer menu, so you can jump right in. If you want to host your own, the process is straightforward. Install the pack through a launcher, then copy the mods, configs, and scripts folders onto your server. Add the matching version of Forge—use Forge for 1.12.2 on TownCraft ONE and Forge for 1.16.5 on TownCraft TWO—and create a startup script. Java 8 is required for older versions, while modern Java works for 1.16 and above. Avoid using the overrides folder from CurseForge; always copy from a locally installed instance. For a done-for-you solution, third-party hosts offer preconfigured servers that save time and effort.

Client-Side Mods and Customization

TownCraft includes numerous optional client-side mods that you can disable if they affect performance or preference. Some notable ones are AI Improvements, Better Foliage, Journeymap, LagGoggles, and Toast Control. Removing these can free up resources without breaking the core experience. The pack also features a custom main menu and a tombstone mod that lets you teleport back to your grave by holding a key, ensuring that death is never the end of your progress.

Conclusion

TownCraft is more than just a modpack—it’s a narrative-driven sandbox that challenges you to rebuild society from the ashes. With its deep lore, robust colony mechanics, and seamless integration of transportation and industry, it offers hundreds of hours of engaging gameplay. Whether you are a solo player looking for a structured challenge or a server admin wanting to foster a living world, this pack delivers. Allocate enough RAM, choose your biome carefully, and get ready to turn a barren surface into a bustling network of towns and cities.
