What Is the Boss Warps Data Pack?

Vanquishing a powerful boss feels incredible, but the journey back home can quickly drain that excitement. The Boss Warps data pack changes that by creating a temporary warp point right where the boss fell. Instead of retracing your steps through miles of dangerous terrain, you simply interact with the warp to instantly return to your spawn point—along with any nearby allies or tamed creatures.

Inspired by the Boss Rifts mod by jodlodi, this data pack brings similar functionality to a pure data pack format. It works on its own and even adapts to NeoForge environments with the same compatibilities offered by the Boss Rifts — Compat+ mod. However, if you’re already running Boss Rifts with that addon, you might prefer sticking with it. For everyone else, Boss Warps delivers a lightweight, vanilla-friendly solution that integrates seamlessly into your world.

Important: A dedicated resource pack is required for the warp point visuals and animations to display correctly. Make sure you have it installed alongside the data pack before loading your world.

How the Warp Points Work

After you defeat a boss, a warp point materializes at the scene. Keep your distance immediately after the kill—the summoning animation ends with a small explosion. Once the point stabilizes, right-click it to trigger a short warping animation. Beams of light will link to every entity about to be transported, so you always know who’s coming along. After a brief moment, all affected entities are teleported to the spawn location of the player who activated the warp.

These warp points don’t last forever. They persist for roughly 4000 in-game ticks (3 minutes and 20 seconds) before playing a final animation and vanishing with another harmless bang. This time limit keeps the mechanic balanced, encouraging you to use the warp promptly or risk losing it.

Which Bosses Are Supported?

Boss Warps automatically detects any boss registered under the entity tags #forge:bosses, #c:bosses, or the custom #bosswarps:spawns_warp. Because many modded bosses don’t use these tags, the data pack includes its own manual support for a wide range of popular mods. It also covers the vanilla Elder Guardian—though all three guardians in an ocean monument must be defeated before a warp point appears.

The data pack focuses on bosses that are only summonable in specific locations, not creatures you can spawn in your backyard (like the Wither). Occasionally, it also supports naturally spawning bosses, especially those found in dimensions other than the Overworld, to help when you’re exploring far from home. The list below shows every mod and boss currently supported in version 1.21(.1).

  • Aerial Hell – Mud Cycle Mage, Lunar Priest, Chained God, Lilith
  • Annihilation Recreated – Annihilation
  • Battle Towers – Battle Tower Guardian
  • Classic Battle Towers – Battle Tower Golem (warp appears at top or bottom floor depending on tower type)
  • Companions! – Sacred Pontiff / His Holiness
  • Deeper and Darker – Stalker
  • Dungeons and Taverns – Spider Queen, Freeze, Ancient Guardian, End Castle's Haunting
  • Exotelcraft – Mutated Stalk Piglin
  • Frostiful – Frostologer
  • Galosphere – Berserker
  • Ice and Fire: Dragons (Community Edition) – Fire Dragon (wild/untamed), Ice Dragon (wild/untamed), Lightning Dragon (wild/untamed), Cyclops, Gorgon, Hydra

  • YUNG's Better Desert Temples – Pharaoh

You don’t need to install every listed mod—the data pack automatically adapts to whichever ones are present in your current modpack.

Installing and Using Boss Warps

Setting up the data pack is straightforward. Place the Boss Warps folder inside your world’s datapacks directory, then load the world and run /reload if you’re already in-game. Don’t forget the required resource pack; without it, the warp animations won’t render properly. If you’re managing multiple mods and data packs, keeping everything organized can feel like a chore. For those who prefer a streamlined setup, installing data packs like Boss Warps is a breeze with the foxygame.net launcher, a modern and flexible Minecraft launcher that lets you download mods and data packs directly from its menu. It handles version compatibility and installation paths, so you can focus on the adventure.

On NeoForge, the data pack automatically adjusts to the same compatibilities as Boss Rifts — Compat+, though as mentioned, using the original mod with its addon is still recommended for that loader. For Fabric or vanilla servers, this data pack works flawlessly without any extra steps.

Why Boss Warps Enhances Your Gameplay

Long expeditions often end with a grueling walk back, which can discourage exploration. By dropping a temporary portal at the boss arena, Boss Warps rewards your victory with a quick return trip. It respects game balance—the time limit prevents abuse, and the explosion warning adds a tiny bit of tension. The mod support list is extensive, covering everything from dragon fights to dungeon guardians, so you’ll rarely face a boss that doesn’t trigger a warp.

Whether you’re conquering ocean monuments, clearing battle towers, or hunting dragons in the wild, this data pack turns the end of a boss fight into a satisfying conclusion rather than a travel slog. Give it a try and turn every boss encounter into a convenient checkpoint back to base.
