What Is the PvPReward Plugin and Why Your Server Needs It

Vanilla Minecraft PvP is thrilling, but after a while the same old sword fights can feel a little hollow. There is no real risk beyond losing your gear, and no lasting reward for dominating the battlefield. The PvPReward plugin changes that by weaving an economy directly into combat. Every kill can now steal coins from your opponent’s balance, turning each skirmish into a high-stakes gamble. It works with any economy plugin through Vault, so whether you run EssentialsX, CMI, or a custom currency, the integration is seamless.

Karma System Explained

The plugin’s standout feature is its dynamic karma mechanic. Think of it as a reputation score that grows with every aggressive act. When a player kills a non-outlaw, they gain karma points, while the victim loses one (but never dips below zero). Once a player crosses a configurable threshold, they become an outlaw. Outlaws face a 100% chance of dropping coins upon death, but they also earn increased rewards when they strike first.

Here is a quick scene-by-scene breakdown of how karma flows:

  • Neutral start: Bob and Jacob both have 0 karma. Their coin drop chance sits at the base 10%, and each has 500 coins in their account.
  • First blood: Bob kills Jacob. Bob gains 2 karma, Jacob loses 1. Bob’s drop chance modifier increases by 2% (since his karma is below 50). If the coin drop succeeds, a random percentage (default 0%–5%) is taken from Jacob’s balance.
  • Becoming an outlaw: Bob racks up 48 karma and kills Jacob again. He gains 2 more, hitting 50 karma and becoming an outlaw. Now Bob’s coin drop chance is forced to 100%, and he still receives the +2 karma bonus per kill.
  • Bounty hunting: Jacob finally slays outlaw Bob. Bob loses 1 karma, dropping to 51. Jacob earns no karma because killing an outlaw does not grant any, but he does collect the guaranteed coin drop.

The system gets even deeper with karma thresholds. You can set a karmaThreshold value so that for every X karma points above 50, the outlaw’s stolen amount increases by an outlawModifier percentage, up to a modifierMax cap. For example, if threshold is 10, modifier is 2%, and max is 50%, an outlaw with 70 karma would steal 4% extra coins on top of the base drop. This rewards truly notorious players while making them prime targets.

Reward Types and Configuration

PvPReward offers six distinct methods to calculate how much money changes hands. You choose one in the config, and the plugin handles the rest. The available reward types are:

  • Karma: Uses the full karma system described above. Configurable settings include base percent, outlaw threshold, high/low percent range, outlaw modifier, threshold step, and modifier cap.
  • FlatRate: Every kill steals a fixed amount. Only the Amount setting matters.
  • Range: A random amount between a high and low value is stolen. Only High and Low are used.
  • Percent: A set percentage of the victim’s total balance is taken. Only Percent matters.
  • PercentRange: A random percentage between high and low is taken from the victim’s balance.
  • PercentKDR: The stolen percentage scales with the kill/death ratio of both players. The formula is victimKDR / killerKDR, so slaying a high-KDR opponent yields a larger cut. No extra settings are needed.

You can also enable a death toll that removes money from any player when they die, even outside PvP, and set up multi-world support to disable rewards or tolls in specific worlds. An experimental tombstone feature lets you store dropped items in a grave instead of scattering them on the ground, adding a neat quality-of-life touch.

Commands and Permissions

Both players and admins get a set of straightforward commands. All user commands use /pvp as the base, but you can change this by editing the plugin.yml inside the jar file. Here are the essentials:

User commands:

  • /pvp outlaws – Lists current outlaws on the server.
  • /pvp karma [player] – Shows karma level of the specified player (or yourself).
  • /pvp kdr [player] – Displays kill/death ratio.
  • /pvp rank [player] – Shows KDR leaderboard rank.
  • /pvp top [amount] – Lists the top-ranked players by KDR.

Admin commands:

  • /pvp reset kdr [player] – Resets kills and deaths for a player (or all with all).
  • /pvp reset karma [player] – Resets karma level for a player or everyone.

Permissions are just as clean. To steal money, a player needs pvpreward.getreward. To have money stolen from them, they need pvpreward.givereward. You can exempt players from death tolls with pvpreward.ignoredeathtoll, and the pvpreward.reset node grants access to admin reset commands. There is also an optional permission group assignment for players who kill too many others, letting you automatically move serial killers into a restricted group.

Getting PvPReward Running on Your Server

Installation is simple. First, make sure you have Vault and a supported economy plugin active on your Spigot, Paper, or Bukkit server. Drop the PvPReward jar into your plugins folder, restart the server, and a default config will generate. Open the config to pick your reward type and tweak karma thresholds, messages, and world exclusions. For server admins who like a modern, centralized management experience, the foxygame.net launcher offers a flexible way to handle plugins directly from its menu, letting you download and install PvPReward without hunting through file directories. Once everything is set, a quick /pvp top will confirm the plugin is tracking kills and deaths.

Why PvPReward Elevates Your PvP Experience

Adding an economic layer to combat transforms ordinary duels into meaningful encounters. Players will think twice before attacking a heavily armed opponent when they know a chunk of their hard-earned coins is on the line. The karma system creates natural rivalries: outlaws become walking piggy banks that bounty hunters love to crack open, while careful players can build wealth by picking their fights wisely. The KDR leaderboard and top commands fuel friendly competition, giving your community a reason to log in and sharpen their skills. Whether you run a hardcore factions server or a casual survival world, PvPReward injects depth and excitement that vanilla PvP simply cannot match.
