Just Enough Items for Forge

Every Minecraft player knows the feeling: you have a chest full of random materials and no idea what you can actually build with them. Just Enough Items for Forge solves that problem in one keystroke. This mod puts a searchable list of every item in the game right next to your inventory, and with a single press of a button it shows you exactly how to craft anything or where any item gets used.

If you have used JEI before, you already know the layout. If you have not, you are about to wonder how you ever played without it. This is an unofficial port of JEI to MinecraftForge 26.2, adapted from the original 26.2 sources because the upstream project targets Fabric and NeoForge instead. Four of the mod's five modules needed no changes at all, so the port stays faithful to the original experience.

What Just Enough Items for Forge Actually Does

The core loop is simple and fast. Hover over any item and press R to see its recipes, or U to see what it is used in. That is it. No menus to dig through, no external websites to check. The mod also includes everything veterans expect from JEI:

  • A full ingredient list panel with a search bar and filters
  • Recipe and usage lookup for every item in the game
  • Bookmarks so you can pin items you check often
  • Recipe transfer with the plus button in crafting screens
  • Cheat mode for spawning items in creative-style testing
  • A complete config screen for fine-tuning the interface
  • A plugin API that lets other mods register their own recipe categories

Because of that plugin API, Just Enough Items for Forge for Minecraft works as a hub for almost every major modpack. Machines, custom furnaces, brewing stands, and modded crafting tables all show up in the same interface once their authors hook into JEI.

Minecraft Versions and Loader Support

This build is made specifically for MinecraftForge on Minecraft 26.2. It is not a Fabric or NeoForge mod, and it will not load on those loaders. If you are running a Forge instance on 26.2, you are in the right place.

One important detail separates this port from the NeoForge build. Since Minecraft 1.21.2, vanilla servers no longer send full recipe data to clients. NeoForge and Fabric restored that behavior at the loader level, and JEI depends on it. MinecraftForge 26.2 has no equivalent feature, so this port transmits recipes over JEI's own network channel instead. The practical result: install the mod on your server as well as your client. Recipes are only sent by a server that has JEI. On a server without it, your client falls back to vanilla data and some recipes will be missing from the list. Singleplayer is completely unaffected.

There are a few other small differences worth knowing. Forge's FluidStack carries an NBT tag rather than data components, so two fluids that differ only by their components appear as one entry. Forge also lacks a fluid slot display type, meaning recipes that present fluids through that mechanism fall back to whatever their own JEI plugin provides. Tooltips requesting a custom style are drawn with the default frame. Everything else, including networking, key bindings, screen hooks, and the config screen, was rewritten against Forge's own APIs and behaves the same as the original.

How to Install Just Enough Items for Forge

Installation takes about a minute. You need MinecraftForge for Minecraft 26.2 already set up, and nothing else. There are no additional dependencies.

  • Download Just Enough Items for Forge and confirm the file matches your Forge version
  • Place the jar file in your mods folder
  • Launch the game through your Forge profile
  • If you play multiplayer, add the same jar to the server's mods folder

If you would rather skip the manual file shuffling, the foxygame.net launcher handles it for you. Its add-on catalog lists Just Enough Items for Forge alongside the matching Forge build, so a single click installs both and keeps them updated when new releases land. That is a real convenience when you maintain several instances across different Minecraft versions.

A Note on Credits and Support

JEI is created and maintained by mezz, and this port carries the same MIT licence as the original project. Because this is an unofficial adaptation, please do not report problems with it to the original author. Use the comments section on this page instead, and the port's maintainer can look into it.

Once it is running, Just Enough Items for Forge for Minecraft quietly becomes the most-used mod in your pack. You stop alt-tabbing to wikis, you stop guessing at recipes, and you spend more time actually building. For anyone on Forge 26.2, it is close to essential.
