Endurance: Dead by Daylight Style Survival in Minecraft

What if every fight in Minecraft carried the same dread as a chase in Dead by Daylight? That is exactly the tension the Endurance mod delivers. This add-on introduces two interlocking status effects, Endurance and Deep Wound, that turn ordinary combat into a desperate scramble for survival. Instead of simply dying when your health bar empties, you get one last chance to escape, heal, and outplay the situation. The result is a combat loop that feels far more dramatic than vanilla Minecraft ever manages.

What the Endurance Mod Adds

At its core, this mod adds two status effects inspired by Dead by Daylight, and for now they apply only to players. Alongside them you get an Undying enchantment, several new potions, and a bundled 32x resource pack so the textures match high-resolution packs you may already be running.

Endurance Effect

Endurance prevents fatal damage once, leaving you at a single heart and immediately applying Deep Wound. Triggering it removes all other Endurance effects, and it will not activate if you already have Deep Wound. You can obtain it by eating food, using the Undying enchantment, drinking a Potion of Endurance, or killing mobs. Each amplifier level grants you Deep Wound at the same amplifier, so stronger versions of the effect come with harsher consequences.

Deep Wound Effect

Deep Wound is where the real pressure lives. It strips all other status effects and applies 20 Bleed Points. You lose one point per second, and when they run out, you die. Taking damage accelerates the loss and can cause instant death after multiple hits, while sprinting, eating, and drinking slow the bleeding down.

To survive, you need to build Mending progress. Damaging mobs, taking damage, or increasing mending progress pauses the bleed. Health restoration converts into mending progress, and the conversion rate rises while sneaking. Standing still and crouching gradually builds progress, but that progress decays if it does not increase within five seconds. Reaching 20 mending progress clears Deep Wound, converts part of your remaining bleed points into Absorption, and grants Regeneration IV plus Speed I for 2.5 seconds.

While afflicted, your vision slowly fades. Orange frames track mending progress and red hearts represent bleed points. You can toggle the vignette with the command /endurance showVignette true or false.

Potions, Enchantments, and Commands

  • Potion of Endurance grants the Endurance effect directly.
  • Potion of Bleeding applies Deep Wound, with each amplifier adding 8% bleeding speed and 12% mending speed.
  • The Undying enchantment provides another route to Endurance.
  • Killing mobs and eating food can also trigger the effect.

If you plan to download Endurance and drop it into a modpack, you are free to do so. The author allows inclusion in modpacks, use as a dependency, and even reuse of the textures. What you cannot do is repost the mod or its code under your own name. The mod is built for fun and is not considered fully stable yet, so bug reports are welcome through the author's email or GitHub.

Supported Versions and Loaders

Endurance targets modern Minecraft releases, with builds published for the 1.21.x line and packaged for the Fabric loader. The author has stated plainly that there will be no backports to older versions and no Forge or NeoForge port, so plan your modpack around Fabric if you want to use it.

For developers, the mod can be added as a dependency through the Modrinth Maven repository using the coordinate maven.modrinth:deep-wound followed by a version string in the format x.y.z+mc_version. Once wired up, you can access the effects from the EnduranceEffects class and apply them in code, for example by adding a status effect instance to a player.

If you would rather skip manual file juggling, the foxygame.net launcher handles the setup for you, letting you add Endurance to a Fabric profile with a single click and keeping it updated automatically as new builds appear.

How to Install Endurance for Minecraft

Getting started is straightforward. First, confirm you are running a compatible Minecraft version and have Fabric installed. Next, place the mod file into your mods folder. If you want the included textures to look right, add the bundled 32x resource pack alongside your other high-resolution packs. Then launch the game and test the effects in a safe world before taking them into a hardcore run.

Learning how to install add-ons like this one is half the battle, but the payoff is a combat system that rewards quick thinking over raw gear. The Endurance mod turns every near-death moment into a tense escape sequence, and once you understand the bleed and mending rhythm, you will never look at a close call the same way again.
