Enchanted Wolves: Upgrade Your Loyal Companion in Minecraft
Wolves have been a faithful part of Minecraft for years, following you into battle and scaring off skeletons. But their basic behavior can feel a little underwhelming once you’ve geared yourself up in full Netherite. The Enchanted Wolves mod changes that completely, turning your canine friend into a customizable, enchanted ally with collars that rival your own armor.
What is the Enchanted Wolves Mod?
Enchanted Wolves is a mod that introduces wearable collars for tamed wolves. These collars come in all six armor tiers—Leather, Chainmail, Gold, Iron, Diamond, and Netherite—and provide defensive stats equal to half of a full armor set of that material. But the real magic lies in the enchantments. You can apply custom enchantments that grant your wolf offensive power, utility, and even the ability to cheat death.
Crafting the Collars
The crafting recipes are straightforward. A Leather Collar is made using leather and string. To create higher-tier collars, you simply replace a key ingredient with the corresponding metal: a chain for Chainmail, an iron ingot for Iron, a gold ingot for Gold, or a diamond for Diamond. Netherite Collars follow the same upgrade path as Netherite armor—you’ll need a Smithing Table to combine a Diamond Collar with a Netherite Ingot. Leather Collars can be dyed any color, letting you personalize your wolf’s look.
Equipping a collar is as easy as left-clicking your tamed wolf with the collar in hand. To remove it, shift-left-click with an empty hand. Once equipped, the collar appears as a visible band around the wolf’s fur, and your pet becomes immune to direct damage from you, including arrows and tridents. (Environmental hazards like lava or falls still hurt, so keep an eye on your companion.)
Custom Enchantments for Your Wolf
Enchanted Wolves adds a rich set of enchantments that you can apply to collars via an anvil and enchanted books. These range from combat boosts to unique abilities:
- Trauma: Adds 1 attack damage per level (max 5).
- Swiftness: Increases movement speed by 10% per level (max 3).
- Infernal: Sets targets on fire and reduces fire damage taken by 50% per level (max 2).
- Leech Fangs: Heals the wolf for 25% of damage dealt per level (max 3).
- Frostbite: Applies Slowness to attacked mobs for 3 seconds, with the slowness level equal to enchant level (max 3).
- Resurrection: A treasure enchant found only in world-generated chests. When the wolf takes fatal damage, it is healed to full and teleports to you, and the enchant level drops by one until it disappears (max 3).
- Thundermaw: Another treasure enchant from chests and fishing. Each attack has a 35% + 15% per level chance to summon a lightning bolt that won’t harm you or the wolf (max 2).
- Tag Team: When you and your wolf attack the same mob, both gain Strength I for 5 seconds (1 level).
- Weakening Maw: Inflicts Weakness III for 3 seconds on attacked mobs (1 level).
- Cleaving Jaw: Wolf’s attacks deal damage to nearby mobs.
- Hearty: Grants Regeneration to the wolf while the collar is worn.
- Lucky Paw: Applies the Bountiful status effect, which counts toward Looting levels when the mob is slain. Stack it with a Looting III sword for effectively Looting VI.
- Pack Leader: Howls to grant nearby wolves of the same owner a damage and speed buff, with a cooldown.
- Pest Patrol: Bonus damage to arthropods.
- Radiant Fangs: Makes attacked mobs glow and become Vulnerable, increasing all damage taken.
- Smiting Bite: Bonus damage to undead.
Vanilla Enchantment Support
Collars can also receive many vanilla enchantments that are compatible with armor or breakable items, such as Protection, Unbreaking, Respiration, and Feather Falling. (Fire Protection is intentionally excluded because Infernal already provides superior fire resistance, and Mending doesn’t work since wolves can’t collect experience.)
Expanded Compatibility and New Features
The mod isn’t limited to vanilla wolves. If you have Doggy Talents or Quark installed, their custom dogs and Foxhounds can also wear these collars and benefit from all enchantments. The mod is highly configurable—almost every value can be tweaked except maximum enchant levels due to technical constraints. Loot generation has been improved, so you can find randomly colored leather collars in low-tier chests, and treasure enchantments like Resurrection and Thundermaw now properly spawn in structures.
Getting the Mod and Keeping Things Simple
Enchanted Wolves is available exclusively on CurseForge, the only official source to avoid malware-ridden copies. If you’ve downloaded it elsewhere, it’s safest to grab it fresh from the official page. For players who prefer a streamlined modding experience, the foxygame.net launcher lets you browse and install mods like Enchanted Wolves directly from its menu, so you can skip manual file management and jump straight into the game.
