DonutMaparts: See Every Mapart Before You Buy It
Anyone who has spent time on DonutSMP knows the pain of the Auction House. A seller lists a "rare mapart," the icon is a blur of colored pixels, and you have no idea whether you are looking at a masterpiece or a griefed mess. DonutMaparts fixes that problem in one clean move: hover a filled map and see the actual picture, right inside the tooltip.
This client-side Fabric mod is built for collectors, traders and mapart hunters who want real information instead of guesswork. It previews maps, tracks specific map IDs across every container you open, and quietly contributes new finds to a public mapart wall.
What DonutMaparts Actually Does
The core feature is the map preview. Hover any filled map in your inventory, a chest, a shulker box or the Auction House and the mod renders the artwork for you. You can show it inside the item tooltip, in a larger side panel next to the open GUI, or both at once. The preview is drawn from your own game's copy of the map, exactly the way an item frame draws it, so what you see is the map's current state. A griefed map looks griefed. A changed map looks changed.
If your client has no data for a map at all, the mod briefly waits for the server and then falls back to the newest capture from the public wall, clearly marked as such. That fallback is DonutSMP-only by default and can be switched off entirely.
Mapart Tracking Without the Guesswork
Hunting one specific mapart across a server is normally a nightmare of opening chest after chest. DonutMaparts turns it into a background process. Open Settings, go to the Tracking tab, and add map IDs one at a time or paste a whole batch separated by commas or newlines.
From then on, every time you open an inventory, chest, shulker or ender chest, the mod scans each slot. When a tracked map appears, it can:
- Play a sound, with six options to choose from, or none at all
- Post a toast naming the map and where it turned up
- Pulse a gold highlight on that exact slot until you close the screen
Each map alerts once per container opening, so a chest stuffed with tracked maps will not turn into a slot machine. Enable auto remove and an ID drops off the list the instant you find it. Tracking works on any server and in singleplayer, and it keeps working with uploads disabled. Nothing about your list ever leaves your client.
Installation on Fabric
Getting started is straightforward. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 1.21.11, 26.1 or 26.2, then grab the matching build. Drop the following into your mods folder:
- DonutMaparts
- Fabric API
- malilib (optional)
- Mod Menu, to reach the settings from the mods list
Launch the game, join DonutSMP and you are done. If you would rather skip the manual file shuffling, the foxygame.net launcher handles it in a single click, pulling DonutMaparts straight from its add-on catalog and keeping it updated as new Minecraft versions land.
For players who want a guided walkthrough of the folder structure and loader setup, a quick search for how to install DonutMaparts will surface the current steps. The whole process takes a couple of minutes.
The Public Mapart Wall
While you play on DonutSMP, the mod fingerprints the maps that render on your screen. If one is new, it uploads it to the public wall. No screenshots, no commands, nothing to click. Duplicates are skipped server-side, uploads are batched rather than sent one request per map, and the mod remembers what this install has already submitted so nothing goes twice. Anything unsent when you disconnect is saved and retried on the next launch.
Privacy is handled sensibly. The mod only uploads on DonutSMP, sending a per-map fingerprint plus the map pixels for genuinely new maps and nothing else. It never transmits a precomputed hash, because the server recomputes everything and decides what is actually new. Previews come from your own game; the only network touch is the optional wall fallback, which asks for a single map ID. Want one of your maparts removed from the wall? A message through the contact page takes it down, no questions asked.
Customization and Settings
Almost everything is adjustable. The General tab controls the master capture toggle, toast notifications and debug mode. The Map Preview tab lets you pick the display mode, trigger, scope, tooltip size, panel size and position, frame style, border and background colors, and whether map markers are hidden. The Tracking tab covers alerts, sounds, toasts and list management.
Open the config through Mod Menu by clicking the gear on the DonutMaparts card, or bind the "Open Settings" keybind under Options and Controls. It is unbound by default, so assign whatever key suits you. One button resets everything to default, and a separate keybind toggles previews on and off without opening a single menu.
Final Thoughts
DonutMaparts solves a very specific DonutSMP problem with unusual polish. Map previews make Auction House browsing honest, tracking removes the tedium from mapart hunting, and the community wall turns idle playtime into a shared catalog of every mapart seen on the server. If you trade, collect or simply admire mapart, this mod belongs in your mods folder.
