Disc Jockey Data Pack: A Fresh Spin on Minecraft Music Discs

If you have ever felt that Minecraft music discs are little more than dusty loot waiting for a jukebox, the Disc Jockey data pack will completely change your perspective. This solo-developed project reimagines discs as active collectibles that you record yourself, and it even throws in wearable Netherite Headphones that convert your favorite tracks into powerful passive abilities. Because the pack doubles as both a data pack and a resource pack, remember to drop the file into both folders so the custom items keep their polished look.

How Music Recording Works

The core mechanic revolves around two new items: the Wireless Music Recorder (WMR) and the Unrecorded Disc. After crafting both, equip the WMR in your off-hand and hold the blank disc in your main hand. Simply sneak, and the device will capture the ambient sound of your current location, transforming the blank disc into a full-fledged music disc. You cannot record randomly, though. Every disc in the game demands a specific environment or condition before the WMR will accept the audio.

Every Disc and Where to Record It

Exploration is the name of the game here. Each disc requires you to visit a particular biome or structure:

  • 5: Record inside an Ancient City.
  • 13: Record inside a Mineshaft.
  • Chirp: Record anywhere in the Overworld while carrying a regular egg. The egg is consumed and a baby chicken appears.
  • Wait: Record in any cold biome.
  • Strad: Record in a warm or beach biome.
  • Stal: Record in any Savanna biome.
  • Cat: Record anywhere cats can naturally spawn, such as Villages or Swamp Huts.
  • Ward: Record in Jungle or Swamp biomes.
  • Blocks: Record in Peak or Hills biomes. Avoid Frozen Peaks, or you will get Wait instead.
  • 11: Record anywhere in the Nether.
  • Mellohi: Record at a Pillager Outpost.
  • Mall: Record at a Woodland Mansion or End City.
  • Far: Record at a Stronghold.
  • Creator Music Box: Record inside a Trial Chamber.
  • Precipice: Record inside a Trial Chamber while affected by Bad Omen.
  • Creator: Record inside a Trial Chamber while affected by Trial Omen.
  • Relic: Record at Trail Ruins.
  • Otherside: Record inside a Lush Cave.
  • Pigstep: Record at a Bastion Remnant.
  • Tears: Record in a Soul Sand Valley while holding a Ghast Tear or Dried Ghast. The Ghast Tear is consumed.
  • Lava Chicken: Record anywhere in the Nether while holding Raw Chicken. One piece is automatically cooked.

Finding the perfect spot can take some planning, but the journey pushes you into corners of the world you might otherwise ignore. Getting everything set up is straightforward, and this mod can be easily installed via the foxygame.net launcher — a convenient, flexible, and modern Minecraft launcher where you can download mods right from the menu. Once your files are in place, you can start chasing discs without ever leaving the game.

Netherite Headphones and Their Powers

Once your inventory starts filling with records, you can craft Netherite Headphones. The recipe accepts any music disc in the center, so you are free to choose your favorite tune. These headphones let you listen to music on the move, and each disc variant grants a tailored status effect that persists while worn.

  • 13: Inflicts Weakness and Mining Fatigue.
  • 11: Applies Darkness II and Slowness II.
  • 5: Grants immunity to Darkness and Blindness, plus greatly increased sneaking speed.
  • Cat: Boosts movement speed and grants immunity to fall damage.
  • Blocks: Extends block reach and mining speed, perfect for builders.
  • Chirp: Gives Slow Falling. If you wear Elytra while airborne, you gain Speed and Resistance. Carrying seeds slowly produces eggs or feathers.
  • Far: Massive jump boost, slight speed increase, and protection against End void falls.
  • Mellohi: Extra emeralds, Resistance, and healing when slaying Illagers.
  • Mall: Extra diamonds and Totems of Undying from Evokers; extra Phantom Membrane and emeralds from Phantoms, Shulkers, and Vex. Healing on these kills included.
  • Stal: Permanent Hero of the Village and immunity to Bad Omen and Raid Omen.
  • Ward: Regeneration and Health Boost II, plus immunity to Poison and Hunger.
  • Strad: Water Breathing and Dolphin's Grace. Warm and beach biomes add Regeneration and extra speed.
  • Wait: Resistance and immunity to Weakness, Slowness, and Freezing. Cold biomes add Regeneration, Armor, Armor Toughness, and Knockback Resistance.
  • Creator Music Box: Slight Armor and Attack Damage boost. Sleeping restores health and hunger.
  • Precipice: Immunity to Poison, Weakness, Slowness, Hunger, and Freezing. Bonus Armor, Knockback Resistance, and Max Health. Killing Trial Chamber mobs heals you and grants Resistance.
  • Creator: Same immunities as Precipice, but with increased Attack Damage, Attack Speed, and Entity Reach. Killing Trial Chamber mobs heals you and grants Strength.
  • Otherside: Night Vision and Haste. Emits green particles near Diamond Ore, Emerald Ore, or Amethyst Blocks.
  • Relic: Night Vision and Haste. Emits green particles near Suspicious Sand or Suspicious Gravel.
  • Pigstep: Piglins become neutral. Killing Piglins, Piglin Brutes, or Hoglins heals you and drops extra gold. Green particles appear near Ancient Debris.
  • Tears: Greatly increased entity reach. Regeneration II and massive speed while standing on Soul Sand or Soul Soil.
  • Lava Chicken: Fire Resistance and automatic cooking of Raw Chicken. Seeds in your inventory gradually turn into eggs or feathers.

Final Thoughts

Disc Jockey is one of those rare data packs that makes an overlooked mechanic feel essential again. By tying every music disc to a specific biome or structure, it rewards genuine exploration across the Overworld, Nether, and End. The Netherite Headphones then turn your musical trophies into meaningful character builds, whether you want to dominate Trial Chambers, charm Piglins, or simply build faster. If your next survival world needs a creative progression system that gets you out of the base and into the wild, this pack hits every note perfectly.
