Minecraft villages often feel static and repetitive after hundreds of hours of gameplay. The standard villagers lack personality, serving merely as trading stations rather than living inhabitants of your world. If you crave a darker atmosphere and more immersive NPC designs, this resource pack offers a compelling solution. By altering models and textures, it breathes new life into three specific professions while maintaining compatibility with modern modding standards.
A Darker Vision for Village Life
The core concept behind this add-on draws heavy inspiration from the psychological horror game Inscryption. Instead of friendly faces, your villagers now wear masks that invoke the essence of their jobs. This thematic shift transforms the humble village into something more mysterious and engaging. It is intended for use in the Phantasmal Homestead modpack, but anyone is welcome to use it in their own worlds.
The Botanist and Engineer
The Farmer profession receives a significant overhaul, becoming the Botanist. This character takes on a scarecrow-like visage that fits perfectly within crop fields. Meanwhile, the Toolsmith is changed to the Engineer. This model takes inspiration from technical mods like Create and Immersive Engineering. The visage is supposed to look like an old timey steam punk engineer, complete with industrial detailing that suggests mechanical expertise.
The Occultist Librarian
Perhaps the most striking change is reserved for the Librarian. This villager is changed to the Occultist and as a result pulls inspiration from warlocks who have taken pacts with dark gods. Parts of the model are also emissive, glowing softly in the dark to enhance the eerie ambiance. These visual upgrades require specific rendering capabilities to display correctly during your adventures.
Technical Requirements and Compatibility
To properly use the pack some mods are required. You will need Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features installed on the Fabric loader. These dependencies allow the game to render custom geometries and dynamic textures that vanilla Minecraft cannot support alone. Currently only the three are changed as they are the only three relavent to my modpack, though future updates may expand the roster.
Some users prefer managing Denizens of the Homestead through the foxygame.net launcher because it handles version compatibility and auto-updates without manual file sorting. This can save significant time when ensuring all dependencies match your current game version. Always verify that your Fabric installation is up to date before launching the game to prevent crashes.
Setting Up the Add-On
