Composable Automation (Fabric)

Minecraft’s vanilla automation is powerful but often limited to a few rigid mechanics. Composable Automation (Fabric) changes that by introducing a set of simple, modular blocks and tweaks that feel like natural extensions of the game. There are no all-knowing smart blocks or complex routing pipes here. Instead, you get basic components that, when combined with existing redstone and hopper systems, unlock a surprising depth of automation possibilities. Whether you want to sort items, plant crops automatically, or encode data into colored blocks, this mod gives you the tools to build clever contraptions without breaking the vanilla feel.

What Does Composable Automation (Fabric) Add?

This mod is built for the Fabric loader and works seamlessly with modern Minecraft versions like 1.20 and 1.19. It focuses on composability—each block or tweak does one small thing, and you combine them to create complex behaviors. The result is a satisfying puzzle-like experience where you design your own solutions.

New Blocks for Creative Automation

The core of the mod lies in its unique blocks, each with a specific, predictable function.

  • Dynamic Lamp: A redstone lamp whose brightness scales with signal strength. Use it for visual feedback or to create subtle lighting effects tied to your circuits.
  • Rotator: Rotates the block above it on every redstone pulse. Toggle between right- and left-handed modes. Pair it with a Dropper to split item streams evenly, or reorient directional blocks like Observers.
  • Chute: A waterloggable block with a single-slot inventory that pushes items into the block it faces, similar to a Hopper but only horizontally. When powered, it holds the last item, making it perfect for sorting stackable items when combined with a Rotator.
  • Grated Hopper: Craft a Hopper with Iron Bars to create a filter that only accepts stackable items. Use it to separate tools, armor, and other unstackables from bulk storage lines.
  • Photodetector: Available in red, green, and blue variants. It outputs a redstone signal of 15, 8, or 0 based on the color of the block placed in front of it. Works with wool, terracotta, concrete, stained glass, shulker boxes, and any block tagged with the corresponding color tags. Encode multiple bits of data in a single block for advanced sorting or logic.

World Interaction Tweaks

Beyond blocks, the mod introduces several configurable tweaks that change how items behave when dropped in the world. Each can be toggled individually, so you can pick only the ones that fit your playstyle.

  • Auto Planting: Seeds, saplings, and other plantable items dropped on suitable soil will plant themselves after a few seconds—provided they aren’t moving through water streams. Perfect for passive crop farms.
  • Dispenser Feeding: Dispensers now feed animals directly if the contained item is edible by the mob in front. Supports all vanilla animal foods, and you can whitelist modded items in the config. Note: there’s a small chance of incompatibility with custom mob mods, so you can disable it if needed.
  • Dispenser Toggling: A Dispenser with a stick will toggle the block in front—flip a lever, open a door, change a repeater’s delay, or interact with any block tagged as toggleable. This opens up countless remote-control possibilities.
  • Exploding: Items caught in an explosion (like TNT) transform instead of being destroyed. Stone becomes cobblestone, cobblestone becomes gravel, gravel becomes sand, and gravel has a chance to drop flint. Ore-to-dust crushing recipes from Cotton are also supported. All transformations are data pack configurable.
  • Burning: Items dropped into fire briefly transform before burning up. Catch the intermediate item with a Hopper or quick pickup. Timing is everything—build a machine to get it right every time. Works with campfire recipes and custom data pack recipes.
  • Soaking: Drop items into specific fluids to transform them. Try sponge into wet sponge. Like Exploding and Burning, this is fully data pack configurable, so you can add your own recipes.

Nether Dust and Future Plans

Exploding the obvious block yields Nether Dust, a resource that will eventually be used for mass-producing TNT. If easily accessible TNT would upset your modpack’s balance, you can disable the recipe or remove the mod. The author also recommends companion mods like Proletarian (auto-crafting with villagers), Lead Villagers, Beach Slimes, and Always Drop Loot to round out a vanilla-plus automation experience.

How to Install Composable Automation (Fabric)

Getting started is straightforward. First, ensure you have the Fabric Loader installed for your Minecraft version (1.20, 1.19, or whichever you’re running). Then, download the Fabric API mod—it’s required for almost all Fabric mods. Once those are in place, you can download Composable Automation (Fabric) from a trusted mod repository. Place the downloaded .jar file into your mods folder, and you’re ready to go. If you’re using a launcher that simplifies mod management, like the foxygame.net launcher, you can find Composable Automation (Fabric) in its add-on catalog and install it with a single click, with automatic version compatibility checks ensuring it matches your game build.

Why Choose Composable Automation (Fabric) for Minecraft?

This mod respects the vanilla design philosophy. It doesn’t hand you a magic block that solves everything; it gives you building blocks for your own ingenuity. The tweaks are subtle but impactful, and the ability to disable any of them means you can tailor the experience precisely. Whether you’re a redstone engineer looking for new challenges or a casual player wanting to streamline farming, Composable Automation (Fabric) for Minecraft delivers a fresh, balanced take on automation. The Photodetector alone can revolutionize item sorting, while the Rotator and Chute combo makes multi-stream distribution elegant. And with data pack support, the community can extend the mod endlessly.

If you’ve ever wished for a way to automate without breaking immersion, this mod is for you. It’s a testament to how much depth can emerge from simple, composable parts. So grab your redstone dust, craft a few Dynamic Lamps, and start building your next masterpiece.
