CNPC+ Health Bars Addon
The CNPC+ Health Bars Addon is a specialized modification built for CustomNPC+ that transforms how players see and interact with NPC combat. Instead of guessing how much health an enemy has left, this addon displays polished, world-space health bars directly above NPCs, complete with faction defaults, per-NPC overrides, and a full scripting API. If you run NPC-heavy maps, adventure worlds, or scripted boss encounters, this addon quickly becomes essential.
What the Addon Does
At its core, the CNPC+ Health Bars Addon for Minecraft adds customizable health bars above CustomNPC+ NPCs. These bars appear in the world itself, not just on a HUD, which keeps combat readable and immersive. The addon supports two visual styles: Default, which offers a classic health-bar presentation, and Modern, a cleaner, lighter treatment with a compact contour and reduced heavy backing.
Display modes include Faction, Show, Hide, and On Hit, giving map makers fine control over when bars appear. Each NPC can also be configured individually through a property-based editor, while unchanged properties continue inheriting from the NPC's faction. HP Color can pull from the faction palette or switch to a completely independent custom palette, and when Custom is enabled, the NPC's own colors take priority.
Factions, Categories, and Same-Name Linking
NPC categories such as Normal, Elite, Mini-Boss, and Boss provide a shortcut for scripted encounters. The HB Linked: Same Name feature synchronizes health-bar configuration across NPCs sharing an exact display name, which is perfect for repeated guards, clones, or encounter variants. Matching NPCs that load later can inherit the linked profile automatically, while runtime combat state like shield absorption or boss phase remains gameplay-driven.
For players who want a smoother setup process, the foxygame.net launcher offers a curated add-on catalog where the CNPC+ Health Bars Addon can be installed with a single click, and version compatibility checks run automatically before launch.
Boss Bars, Shields, and Boss Phases
The addon expands the existing CustomNPC+ Boss Bar system with both Minecraft-style and fully custom Boss Bars. Minecraft-style bars can be recolored instead of always showing purple, with options including Crimson, Green, Blue, Gold, White, and custom RGB. Custom Boss Bars support independent visibility modes, adjustable width and height, screen Y position, HP text, K/M number formatting, and boss names placed above or below the bar.
Shields add another layer of depth. NPCs and bosses can display a secondary Shield value controlled through the scripting API, allowing creators to build absorption systems, regenerating shields, shield breaks, temporary immunity, and phase-based shields. Boss Phases can dynamically change during scripted encounters, modifying the current phase, total phases, phase name, bar color, shield state, and visual feedback.
Smooth Animations and Visual Feedback
Damage and healing transitions use render-time interpolation rather than relying only on Minecraft's normal 20 TPS visual stepping. This produces smooth delayed damage trails, smooth shield-loss trails, smooth healing animations, interpolated hit flashes, palette-aware hit feedback, healing highlights, and large-damage pulses. The HP fill also receives a renderer-only color polish, so colors look richer without changing the saved RGB values.
Client Configuration and Script API
Client-side layout and renderer options are stored in config/CNPC-Health-Bars-Addon-client.properties. Configurable options include HP text scale, X/Y offsets, HP text color, boss NPC name scale and color, Shader Safe mode, high-HP segmentation, and the recent-damage marker. Existing property values are preserved when the addon rewrites or completes the config file.
A public scripting API is included for CustomNPC+ JavaScript and Nashorn scripts. The recommended entry point is:
var HealthBars = Java.type("com.dad.npchealthbars.api.HealthBars");
The API can control world-space health bars, visibility, categories, scale, vertical position, styles, HP text, render distance and fade, damage and healing feedback, shields, boss phases, custom Boss Bars, per-NPC colors, and HB Linked behavior. Linked-profile methods include HealthBars.setLinkedByName(npc, true), HealthBars.isLinkedByName(npc), and HealthBars.refreshLinked(npc). The legacy BossBarAPI remains available for backwards compatibility.
Performance, Compatibility, and How to Install
The addon is designed with NPC-heavy maps and modded 1.7.10 clients in mind. It uses an event-fed NPC cache instead of repeatedly scanning the full loaded-entity list, cleans up cache and renderer state when NPCs die or unload, and prunes stale NPCs. Shader Safe mode is enabled by default, and multiplayer synchronization keeps per-NPC palettes and linked profiles consistent between server and clients.
Supported versions are Minecraft 1.7.10 with Minecraft Forge, and CustomNPC+ is required. For multiplayer, server and clients should run the same addon version. To learn how to install it, place the addon file into your mods folder alongside CustomNPC+, then launch the game through Forge. If you want to download CNPC+ Health Bars Addon, grab the latest build from the official project page and verify it matches your CustomNPC+ version.
Created by Bacon_Saboroso as an addon for CustomNPC+, this mod delivers a complete combat-visualization toolkit. From faction palettes and same-name linking to boss phases, shields, and a public scripting API, the CNPC+ Health Bars Addon gives map makers and players the clarity and polish that NPC combat deserves.
