Christmas Additions: Festive Gifts, Mobs and Decor for Minecraft

Christmas Additions brings gifts, gingerbread, elves and snow buddies to Minecraft. Download this festive Forge mod and celebrate in style.

Christmas Additions

Winter in Minecraft usually means snow, spruce trees, and not much else. Christmas Additions changes that by filling your world with presents, candy canes, gingerbread houses, and a handful of quirky holiday mobs. Whether you want to decorate a cozy cabin or hunt for overpowered loot under a randomly spawning Christmas tree, this mod gives you plenty to do once the snow starts falling.

What Christmas Additions Adds to Your World

The centerpiece of the mod is the Christmas tree. These spawn randomly across the surface world in any biome, and each one hides eight gifts beneath its branches, two of each color. The trees are smaller than in older versions but appear more frequently, so you are far more likely to stumble across one while exploring.

There are four gift types, each with its own loot pool:

  • Red Gift — random farm animal eggs, villager eggs, and a small chance at a sleigh bell or Santa's toy bag.
  • Green Gift — random vanilla minerals, now including netherite ingots, plus a rare shot at the Bell Jingler or Candy Cane Sword.
  • Blue Gift — one random piece of diamond gear, with a slim chance of a netherite ingot instead.
  • Purple Gift — three random enchanted books, and sometimes max level diamond gear that can be overridden by a block of netherite.

That loot table alone makes holiday exploring worthwhile, especially since the Bell Jingler is a fully automatic crossbow that loads up to eight arrows and fires them rapidly. The Candy Cane Sword, meanwhile, hits for twelve attack damage with near-unbreakable durability.

Gingerbread, Elves and the Snow Buddy

Gingerbread Men and Building Blocks

Gingerbread men no longer spawn naturally. Instead, you right click a gingerbread block with a gumdrop to bring one to life, and you can breed adults with gumdrops to make babies. Killing them drops gingerbread chunks, blocks, or gumdrops. From there you can craft gingerbread blocks, frosting blocks, and a wide range of brick variants using either a crafting table or a stonecutter, which makes building a full gingerbread house genuinely practical.

Elves and Their Candy Canes

Elves appear naturally in any taiga biome and will walk up to present themselves to you. Kill one and it drops a gift, sometimes a better one, along with gumdrops or gingerbread materials. Feeding them sugar used to make them produce presents, but that was removed in the 1.19.2 update and they now drop candy canes instead.

The Snow Buddy

Stack two snow blocks infused with coal, then right click the top block with a carrot to create a snow buddy companion. Hold a golden carrot and he will slowly turn to face you, which is a simple way to aim him in whatever direction you like.

Decorations and Icicles

Christmas lights come in plain and colored variants, and every strand can be crafted into angled and corner versions so you can wrap them around builds cleanly. A craftable star sits on top of naturally spawning trees, and icicles, added in the 1.3 update, are fully craftable from normal ice. One ice makes a small icicle, two stacked makes a medium, and three makes a large one. Like ice, placed icicles need silk touch to pick back up.

If you would rather skip manual file management, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install for Christmas Additions, pulling the correct build straight into your modpack without any folder digging. It is a convenient option for players who just want to play.

Supported Versions and Loader

Christmas Additions is built strictly for Forge and is not intended for Fabric, with no Fabric release planned. The mod was updated to Minecraft 1.19.2, which brought several balance changes, including the elf sugar mechanic removal, reduced gingerbread and elf spawn rates, and netherite ingots appearing in green gifts. If you are running an older 1.19 build, check that your Forge version matches before you download Christmas Additions, since mismatched loaders are the most common cause of a crash on startup.

How to Install Christmas Additions for Minecraft

Installing the mod is straightforward. First, confirm you have the correct Forge version for your Minecraft release. Next, download Christmas Additions from its official project page and drop the jar file into your mods folder. Launch the game using the Forge profile, and the new content will load automatically. If you want to verify everything worked, load a creative world and search the item list for gift boxes or gingerbread blocks. For players who prefer a guided setup, a launcher that handles add-on catalogs and auto-updates removes most of the guesswork, keeping your Christmas Additions build current whenever the mod updates.

Christmas Additions is a compact holiday mod that rewards exploration with genuinely useful loot and gives builders plenty of festive blocks to work with. Grab it before the season ends, plant a few trees, and see what is waiting under the branches.
